Today I am at the Hestbjerg Organic Pig Farm in Holstebro, Denmark with Marianne Hestbjerg. What an amazing experience! They have 1500 sows and produce 27,000 pigs annually. There are happy piglets in the pastures everywhere. This is a wonderful example of sustainable, regenerative agriculture and a 15th-generation family farm. The managed forest is an amazing hideout for the pigs, with mud puddles to cool off on hot summer days. The old farmhouse was restored, and the family name and dates are in the cobblestone driveway. All the pigs live and play outside in the pastures and are the happiest pigs I have ever met. Animal welfare is their top priority. The Hesbjergs sell under the market labels Poppelgris, Bertel’s Gris, and Måltidsboxen in Denmark, EU. I am very grateful to have the opportunity to show you this multi-century farm and its story! My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am an 18-year-old 4th-generation Montana farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.

That is the way all animals we raise for food should be treated! They're allowed to do everything that comes naturally, and their immune systems are stronger for being outside in the fresh air. Interesting. One of the things my grandfather felt was important for a young man to know was how to nut a hog. The use of a single strand of electric fencing is interesting. The water for thee mud puddle to deal with heat. So nice video.

I glad that you are able to travel at your age Kate. I never had that opportunity to do that, all I have done is work after my dad died. You are doing such a great job on your channel. Merci Kate pour cette intéressante vidéo sur l'élevage des porcs bio au Danemark ,depuis 10 ans plusieurs éleveurs En Suisse on commencé ce genre d'élevage j'aime voir les familles de cochons dans ls nature, cela change des anciennes porcheries qui puaient dans nos village . les porcs était engraissés dans des bâtiments et ils étaient serrés ils mangeaient à l'époque de la farine et du petit lait qui restait après la fabrication du Gruyère. Very interesting, Kate! I would have loved to have seen how they get their product to market, and if they merely sold feeder piglets to pig farmers to finish off, or maybe they finish growing them out themselves, or if maybe they processed them in any way. Still, a great video, Kate!

Thanks for the introduction to livestock production in Denmark, Kate. I'm so glad you were able to visit there. My wife and I were fortunate enough to have visited Denmark a few years ago. It's a great place, mostly because of the people. They are exceptionally conscientious and kind. They remind me of the people in the midwest US, who often have Danish heritage.

Another great video Kate! Indeed pigs are very intelligent. Amazing how all the piglets stay with their moms. It is great that Marianne Hestbjerg can speak English so well. That must be very nice if you can still talk to others in your own language so far from home! As you know I live in the Netherlands but I can understand you very well, I don't need any subtitels in your videos! Ha ha in the end it is hilarious that your (white!) body warmer has become a bit dirty. Well, that is part of a visit to such a farm! I remember a picture of you with this pig some time ago, I thought it was in a Danish newspaper on Facebook or so. And what a beautiful Danish farm that is! Old farms are very interesting to see. Very nice that that farm has been restored and then in a way as the farm looked before.
My great-grandfather (from my mother's side) also had a farm. It still exists and is a few minutes walk from my house. Opposite is also an old farmhouse. I often come there and that is also such a beautiful old farmhouse with lots of old details from the early days. For example; in the living room (that used to be the stable) there are still beams on the ceiling and in those beams are still the hooks that the cows were attached to when they were in the stable.You used to be able to see whether a farmer had many or few cows, you could then count the stable windows. My grandfather from my father's side had a farm too and this farm also still exists! Both farms are no longer used as farms. In the small village where I live there were many farms, they are still there but not all of them are used as farms anymore. The farmers used to have ten to sixteen cows, now they have as many as 200 (of course that's not as much as the number of pigs in your video!). That means that some farmers expanded and others stopped. Now even more farmers will probably stop because too much nitrogen is being emitted. Farmers strongly protest against this. They don't want to lose their farm, which has often been in the family for generations. I think I also like your videos because I come from a farming family (in the past!). Next to my house there was an entire older farm, which has collapsed. Now there is a new one, but it is used as a residence. Near my house is a very old farm. It's so old it doesn't even have a floor in it, it's just a layer of sand with some rugs on it!
It is always fun to watch your videos on wednesday, if I then check on Wednesday whether there is a new video, then that is often not the case yet, if I look ten minutes later, there is a new video that has already been online for 40 minutes. I think it will take a while before new videos can be seen here in the Netherlands! Once again many thanks for doing all this, it must be quite a task to keep doing this alongside your studies!
