    Great video! Leatherman makes great sheaths, maybe I'll get the heritage one for my surge, but the one I liked more is the one you use, the mexican double pocket.

    I use the ainsworth for my Surge and the black leather medium size LM sheath fit my 2 bit kits, file and extension. Very comfortable setup. In my 300 the original sheath is excellent very slick as well on the crunch.
    I have try a few other Sheats like the Ivan Scano is good but required too many space, the Skinth is good too for heavy Duty work or working in very humid/mud environment where leather can't do too much. The 3Ds are bulkys always
    I cant believe my best and more comfortable Sheats are the Leatherman leathers! ...
    The ainsworth with the g10 red is my favorite one and the surge.
    The nylons are good but my taste is always leather. Cant carry a good pair of boots( Wesco/Nicks/Whites) and nylon. Just dont feel right.
    The Multitool paradise. What a great stuff!!! Greetings Ben! Come to Laredo for a few tequilas shots! GBY

    Good video Mr Ben. I love the new Leatherman sheaths with snap closure because I hate I mean I hate Velcro because if if it gets a little wet the Velcro is pretty much useless. I think the Ainsworth leather sheath Leatherman sells looks good but it is a little bit pricey. I don't know but they say ya get what you pay for but I don't know if I would want to Shell out $50 when I can get the heritage sheath for $20. Just my two cents. Any way good video Mr. Ben as usual. Keep up the good work sir😀😀👍👌!!!!

    The big leather sheath at 6:16 is the reason why I lost my old leatherman. The “double” stitching wore out from constantly wearing it on my belt and broke somewhere at work. Some fortunate sole the next day picked it up and slid it in there pocket and it was never seen again. Now I just keep my new one in my pocket.

    • @IAteYourSandwich
      @IAteYourSandwich Před rokem +2

      Exactly, a looped belt... well.. loop, is so much sturdier. A belt loop that is just a stitched strip is going to fail because your belt just constantly rubs on the stitching. It is sad that for the price of the tools they don’t have good sheaths...

    I like leather too and having ago and making some myself buying materials off ebay. It don't cost much to buy all you need. Doubt it will be great quality though but something to do as I like making things myself for fun.
    Re the tactical army style sheath you mention towards the end. The pouch straps go under the horizontal belt hold loops then on poppers giving you options on either first loop or second loop for different belt widths if that makes sense. You can also make the belt loop anywhere along the back so can set the height ( when sheath is vertical obviously) This also secures the sheath and would never pull off. I only ever seen one person show this correct way to clip that style on bags or belts, as they are always shown flapping about or over the loops and fitted on poppers. That's wrong. Just saying. I never knew this either until I seen guy packing army kit on youtube last year. Game changer and all my pouches are tight to belt and secure. Loving the content though. Watching all of it. I've bought a wave+ here in UK for work use. Not sure about the bond yet. Have an old swiss army knife and trying to make hardwood scales for it as can't buy new. Thank you for the information you give.

    13:55 IDK what you do for a living, but I use that extra "pouch" on the side to carry a small "Bic" lighter there. I find it to be very usefull for a lot of things ,specially because I smoke, but also to light up a torch, get rid of unthreaded strands in clothes, survival applications, to peel small electrical wires, etc.

    In my experience, the Leatherman leather sheath belt loops are the first thing to fall apart rather quickly due to the method of belt loop attachment to the sheath. If a leather sheath is desired, I too would recommend an aftermarket sheath made by a custom leather worker. Great video review!

    Even though I much prefer how the leather sheaths look I usually go with nylon. Leather is an effective moisture absorver and having a steel tool stored in a potentially moist material doesn't give me much piece of mind, the same goes for photographic equipment, keep them away from leather, unfortunately, specially for medium/long term storage. Thanks for the comparison, very comprehensive, subscribed!

      Leatherman tools are mostly stainless steel and I have carried a wave in the leather case for 20 years with no problem. I agree about metal in leather though as I won't use a leather holster for a gun.

      You may live in a more dry climate and take care of your tools as well as actually using them instead of leaving them in a drawer, it may certainly all help to keep them going strong. I have seen some rusty Leathermans before and it proved to me what I have read about stainless steel not being rust proof but just corrosion-resistant. Personally I subject mine to constant condensation due to temperature changes and the leather is not an option. It is a great tool anyway, no matter where.
