I tried explaining to a friend what this piece of music means and how tragically beautiful it is. The loss it represents and with it so much nuance. He didn't get it lol. I suppose its an X Files thing.
It’s not something so easy to explain but so
painfully easy to feel.
Some things are 'ineffable'. They cannot be explained by words. What you want to convey is beyond even the most gifted wordsmith. Music is at its core the most ineffable of all media. It can do things to you that a book or film or tv series, painting can't quite reach. It can flip you internally or it can feel like it touches your soul. There is a truth to it and only you can hear it. I understand what you say....Mark Snow's scores for The X Files are a third person in addition to Mulder and Scully. They provide an emotional sonic soundscape to the events on screen and frequently not just underscore but enhance the emotions.
Some things are meant to be purely felt, never explainable in words. When you connect with Scully, her love for Mulder, her tug-of-war between her dedication to science and her willingness to have faith beyond what is known, her steadfastness in knowing that even when Mulder seemed lost, he wasn’t, and she knew it. She felt it, she felt how he never truly left her. And she clung with the deepest, most pain-filled hope. And she was not left in lonely darkness. Her prayers: answered-her miracle: delivered.

Comet is showing season 8 right now, and I'm finally getting to watch this from start to finish. The final episode of this season is where it all should have ended.
2024. Who knew I’d still be missing Scully and Mulder? In retrospect, clear as day, X-Files, even with the occasional stumble, was simply brilliant. Acting, cinematography, story, and heart… this quality of storytelling is now gone. Sad.
This theme sounds so much like a Thomas Bergensen composition, it’s startling. Two Steps From Hell music.

I agree. I immerse myself in The X-Files as much as I can, every day. I once met Chris Carter and told him that The X-Files had saved my life. The impact it has had on myself and on the rest of the world is immeasurable.

This song came to symbolize so much in the show at the time and was nearly as iconic as the opening theme despite having more emotional resonance, in my opinion.
The most intensive emotional song ever heard. Tried to explain to friends but no way. Only x Files can give you that kind of emotion.

Season 8 easily had the best soundtrack out of all the seasons. In my opinion it was also the best season they made after the production left Vancouver.

I think it also might have been influenced by Lisa Gerrard's work on 'Gladiator' - has that sort of vibe.
The burrial scene soundtrack is the best. It plays the same scully theme melody but much sad.

Season 8 episode 14 Scully is telling this to Skinner about 12 minutes in to the episode. It's maybe the most beautiful scene in the show.

Sadly much of Mark's later series score were infiltrated with the wrong instruments that never matched the emotion. That bloody oboe was so out of place! 😩
