In this video, I explain how an electret mic works and how you can connect it to the mic jack on your computer. - Věda a technologie
Well done! A great explanation and a great way of comparing different mics and also showing that the Microphone had the bias voltage there.

I'm surprise you had enough paper space for that massive drawing.

Excellent Job, nice explanation of the different types of Mics with schematics. With the computer connection explanation I can finally hook up my Heil HC-6 head set to my computer. The Heil has a mono jack that was shorting the computer 5v to ground.
This is Great man, Thanks, I also learned something.
Very good explanation of how it works, but the most important part was skipped. which pins on the mic get soldered to which parts of the jack. Sad, still looking...
same here. did you find it yet?
Just use google :D
For a 3.5 mm plug that has 3 connections (Tip, Ring , Shield), tanner tech is saying to connect the ground pin of the mic to the Shield and connect the positive pin on the mic to both the Tip and the Ring connections of the 3.5 mm plug. Looking at the 3.5 mm plug, the Tip connection is the outer tip of the plug. Next to the Tip is the Ring connection. Next to the Ring connection is the Shield connection. Note that the Ring connection is sandwiched between the Tip and the Shield. As stated in the video. the Tip and the Ring are effectively shorted together since both are connected to the positive pin on the mic.
helpful and has a cool intro
Great video ! Keep it up!
Nice work man this is good
That intro is 10/10
Nice vid, thank you buddy.
Thank you
How do I actually connect the two wires to the microphone? I have a laser disco light, the microphone came loose. I don't know how to connect them back.
Really nice job. I truly hope you’re going into the engineering field. We need more bright kids to take us old engineers.
nice video bro, u make my day uwu
Thank you ..good 😘😘😘😘😍
Cool!
nice! I learned something new from this video. w0xs
Your voiceee isss sooo cleaaan
Best intro
good video

i use a microphone that is plugged into a desktop computer in the microphone plug on the back of the motherboard and i use audacity in ubuntu 16.04. i can here the microphone but it is not loud enough. their is a thing called "48V Phantom Power Supply" but this is for Laptop which does not give the microphone its full 5 watt power. on my desktop it has that and so i was told that it would not allow me to increase volume. but could i use a "PRE-AMP" before i plug into the computer to increase its volume. or basically how do i increase volume.
Very well explained!
Do you know how to adapt a high impedence mic to a low impedence equipment?
Tou use a matching transformer. 50,000 ohm inpedance in primary to 250 ohm impedance secondary. Good ones are $50-100. Cheaper ones maybe $20. but can overload easily with loud sounds.
thanks
Wow, terrific explanation. Thank you so much! So I have a question. There are different sizes of these electret microphones on Aliexpress. How does the size affect the performance when connected to a computer in the manner you showed in this video? Can I just simply order, say, a 16mm one and expect much higher quality audio or would it require more power?
Can these be made into stereo and used with USB-C on a android smartphone? I would like to make a mic that looks like the Sony ECMLV1 and Olympus ME-51S but has the EM272 and USB-C connection where you can just plug it onto your phone and then record video with a nice enhanced mic for lots of ambient pickup, is this possible?
is it radiative?
Thanks a lot buddy
But i am facing a problem
Theres a little bit of buzzing/humming noise
I dunno whats the reason
thats cool
dude, pretty cool. is there a way to plug those via usb? would i need some kind of interface?
So you didn't show the full connections to the TRS 3.5mm jack!....if you have 2 pins(connections) coming from the microphone going to the TRS jack connection do you connect the connections on this jack to the Tip and sheild?...or do you leave out the sheild and just connect the Tip and Ring?...please advise as you only have 2 connections coming from the mic!
Hey, do eye see a new laboratory? Good project and very helpful.
+HV Labs No, that is my grandpa's work bench. I am in Utah visiting family.
Wow!! 😃😃😃😃
Can u help me customised 1 spk and 1 mic headphone.
Did you connected the positive of mic to both (right and left) channel in 3.5 audio jack?
I believe it mono
i have that exact meter on my bench! use my Fluke a lot more nowdays though.😕
how to make fliter for it
your intro is dellicious
Thank you , I just cried . I subbed on the strength of his face in all of 3 seconds 😂
So i connect the ground of mic ground of trs jack (sleeve?) and the positive of mic to tip and ring both of the 3.5 mm jack ? 😅 plz help
what did you end up doing in the end?
yes. mic is mono & a TRS male jack is for stereo. S=ground/common. R= left channel positive .T= right channel.
Can I wire the mic directly to a speaker? Or do I need any circuit to make the sound comes out of speaker?
you need to amplified the mic signal...(p.e, with a lm386)..
Hello, I don't understand your language, but why didn't you show in the video which wire you soldered to which area?
Hey Tanner, please please, for the sake of the older set of your audience try to make your drawings a little larger. No, a lot larger. Use a big fat sharpie and then scale the drawing so the fat line is still legible. Great video! I know none of this stuff but you make it understandable. Thanks again. Your Grandfather must be very proud to have such an accomplished grandson. Cheers!
PS love that meter! I bet your Grandfather has a pretty cool slide rule somewhere on that work bench.
Sounds good! Yeah, those drawings are a bit small to read. I'll have to ask my Grandfather if he has a slide rule haha! It is probably somewhere in his basement.
Here is how to wire the microphone to the 3.5mm jack: If using a TRRS 3.5mm jack, then connect S to electret positive terminal and the second R to the electret negative terminal. If using a TRS 3.5mm jack, then connect T and R to electret positive terminal and S to the negative terminal.
I did that, but it doesn't seem to work on my desktop, or laptop.. Any idea?
Can anyone tell me what color is S and what color is R
Now I know what to do with my electret mic that I got from a fax machine
Cheers for the help hunch back of Notre Dame 😂
It is possible to use the microphone in voice call?
Actually yes that is the safest way to make a phone call. Off topic , but still relevant , I was watching an interview Snowden did about how smart phones can spy on you (hardware not software). We all know the software is harvesting every screen press. When you plug in an AUX cable to your phone with nothing attached it kills the internal mic because it thinks your using a hands free device. By simply connecting one of these tiny mics to an AUX cable you can safely use your phone on speaker, and use the Mic to speak into. This video of Snowden will further explain , I am sure you will enjoy it czcams.com/video/ucRWyGKBVzo/video.html .
@@DDBAA24 Plugging in any peripheral mic will not get the phone's OS to disable its audio routing, if it is supposedly logging mic data, it will just use the attached peripheral mic as the primary device and keep spying.
What is an electred made out of??
Normally it’s a polyethylene sheet film.
How old are you? I love your videos.
17, thanks!
Where did you get all that knowledge.
Can you refer some books or something or any tip
in our science book
I live in Utah
all 3 microphones sound almost the same to me... *cries in hard of hearing*
Your voice is quite similar to Kurt Cobain's
Noice
How much rupee in a mic
Oyea
You never take shower..
Btw nice explanation and i just made a mic 🎙 using your video it works thanks 😊
why didnt you use a mic?
Shower more often i could fry an egg on your hair
Tenx bro ♥♥♥ I am very happy, so I wish you what I like, which is to accept Islam
Speed no watch
Что рахит рассказал? Не хрена не понял.
Your drawings are too tiny
