  • The OtterBox Defender Pro for the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is what you want. What if there was a less expensive protective case for the Galaxy S21 Ultra? What if you could get nearly the same protective case for the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra? And... What if it was a $40 less than the otterbox defender Pro? The Supcase Unicorn Beetle for the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is that case. But is it the right case for you. I'll talk about the pros and cons of the Supcase UBPro. Let's see if it is really as others say it is.

    For anyone trying to compare this two phone cases just remember in the next two years or so the ottorbox's rubber will stretch out. The hot water method fixes the stretching problem only somewhat. i suggest going for the unicorn beetle pro some scratches and cracks here in there but all in all it's still good after 3 years

      The OtterBox Defender can be replaced under the warranty. Full replacement. Is this something that people don’t want to do? I’m curios if the $10 shipping fee is a sticking point for some.

      I have had good luck with Supcase in the past, but after two of the plastic frames broke in the lower left corner on my Note 20 Ultra, no drops, I had to conclude there is a design flaw there, and bought the Otterbox Defender. There are reviewers pointing out this same issue on Amazon.

      @@dh2392 absolutely. I will never recommend any cases like the Supcase bc that plastic easily breaks. I had a similar case on my old phone and the plastic front piece cracked when I dropped it but didn't damage the phone so I didn't think much about it.. it completely shattered the top corner of the screen the next time I dropped it.
      I got the Supcase with my s21 ultra as a package deal and it didn't even last 3 months (say 3 or 4 drops) and the plastic piece cracked in half. I just bought the OtterBox bc I can't afford breaking this phone like my last

      @@LukeA_55 the outer cover on my Otterbox Defender grew loose over time, and I didn't like the sloppy fit so I ordered a Schnail Titan case for my Note 20 Ultra. It is very similar to the Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro, but I've had it on my phone since late November last year, and despite the phone taking some good hits, the phone and case remain unscathed, and no broken plastic frame.

    I love everything about the Unicorn Beetle case. The kickstand is nice, and the lip action is awesome. My only problem is that it's painted red with a silver paint base, so my red one was scratched after 4 months. Needless to say, I'm on my 2nd one now but considering the otterbox. Would be nice if the back and inner ring would retain its color better.

    Have you had any issues with the Whitestone Dome and the Otterbox defender yet?
    Previous editions of the Otterbox case had issues where the sides, bottom, or top would lift the screen protector if you supply some pressure to the case (to stimulate dropping)
    Previouslu my Note 8 would fit but the sides would lift the screen protector even though there was enough clearance.
    Maybe that changed since Otterbox might not be as flimsy on the sides because the Samsung phone isn't as curved anymore (I hate the curve, made screen protectors so much more difficult).

    • @SomethingMobile
      @SomethingMobile  Před 3 lety

      No not at all. That is to say I haven't had any problems with Whitestone fitting the defender Pro. I just put setup on my s21, I can say i'm drastically disappointed with the otterbox lip compared to the s9+ otterbox defender pro in fact, with the whitestone glass on, the screen is actually a touch higher on sides than the side lips of the otterbox. And the top and bottom are VERY low compared to s9+ case... Only paid 42 at best buy for it..... The whitestone glass is my first try with full adhesive...I liked it. Time will tell on how it holds up.

      Hello @Jerome Gold! Good to see you again. For top and bottom. It's about the same coverage. It feels like the Supcase "might" come up a little higher on the sides. If at all. It will only be slightly. The sides being low is actually good for side to side swipes. If you use screen gestures it helps to have low sides on the case. I use the OtterBox Defender Pro. It's my choice, "but" the Supcase is a good choice as well. I really like the soft padding on the inside of the defender. If you can get both 👍👍🤙.

    That's all I use... And unicorn beetle I feel uses better quality materials. After a while the Otterbox silicone silicone or rubber material starts warping and stretching....supcase uses a more rigid type of rubber that doesn't lose its shape......though the colored cases can get scratched up.....the black stays true. I have the same screen protector kit, and it came with two perfect screen protectors (though I only used one).
    I fitted it first time and it looks perfect, everything works (even my fingerprint and S-Pen) and I am so glad I bought it.
    There are THREE types of antimicrobial surfaces, contact-kill (which works a bit like how you described), leachable (which works in a similar way) and repelling which prevents bacteria from sticking at all, I'm honestly not sure which type they are using HOWEVER all types are good because live bacteria can't learn from dead bacteria, instead only bacteria that survives the process and then multiplies is capable of learning to defeat antimicrobial agents (which could only defeat method 2 (but not one or three) in the rarest of scenarios).

      Put the phone in the case you want to use. Use a dry erase marker to mark the inside perimeter of the case to put a mark on your phone. Then you can lay the glass on the phone in the location where you marked the screen with the dry erase marker. If that doesn't work then after you finish the install carve out a couple of different sections wherever it's touching on the inside of the case with a knife or a file or sandpaper.

      I think I would trust supcase more than OtterBox if I was to do a drop test like that. Reason being is supcase, has air pockets in the corners, and it seems like a little bit more protection on the sides. But what OtterBox has is a soft back. I’ve heard that some thing on the inside of the case that has a soft back on the phone does help with drop addiction. Not sure why. In term of protection both case offers the same protection, but in terms of durability the Supcase UB Pro is really more durable. The kickstand is so good, the clip holster of the Supcase is better than the Otterbox, and the Supcase has more grips than Otterbox Defender Pro. Both case are good in term of protection (I think is a draw in protection) but the Supcase UB Pro is a better case and is cheaper.

    Great review 👏. Here's my take on the screen protector and cases. White dome is a good screen protector, there are just as good screen protectors like mowei premium tempered glass screen protector. For 18 bucks. Works fantastic. Works great with my defender pro note10+ case. Speaking of cases I have many cases from ghostek nautical to lifeproof and unbranded case's. But for the money can't beat otterbox and I have all of them from symmetry, commuter, defender and defender pro. But I have never paid full price for them I bought a brand new black defender pro for 10 bucks on ebay and it was authentic now remember these are for a note10+ the most expensive one is the defender pro purple nebula from best buy. 46 bucks. Still cheaper then 60 bucks. If people are shelling out 1300 for the low end 21 ultra and the 516 gig 21 ultra 1500. You would want to protect it with the best case possible. That's just me. What do you think 🤔

    I've used both cases in the past. And even Pelican cases too. Unicorn Beatles are awesome cases for the price. But the Otterbox Case really feels like the more durable case. It is made out of better material, and I like the extra protection for the back of my phone. I also love the fact that I can replace my otterbox defender pro when, and if it goes bad. If I didn't have this S21 Ultra, I would be rocking that UB Supcase. But I got my otterbox case along with some other accessories as part of a deal also. Both cases work great though. I'm rolling without a screen protector at the moment, and the otterbox defender pro is working fine without one. Should I get a film or a glass screen protector?

      My experience, none of the tempered glass screen protectors work well with Samsung's curved displays, or fingerprint sensor. I did not use a screen protector on my last phone, a Samsung Note 8, but I did end up with fine scratches on the screen. I have been using TPU screen protectors on my Note 20 Ultra to prevent scratches, and they work with the curved edges, and fingerprint sensor as if they're not even there. Regarding tempered glass screen protectors, I'm skeptical that something weaker than your screen protects your screen from breaking.

    • @SomethingMobile
      @SomethingMobile  Před 3 lety +2

      I agree with you that metal does bend, but not if you make it a little bit thicker. But then again like you said metal is heavy and would cause your phone to not be as protected as you think it would during a drop. Some extra padding would have to be on the inside of the case which would most likely make the case even thicker. Yeah metal seems like it would be kind of hard to work with. I just put a Whitestone on my s21 ultra today. Followed instructions to a tee. And the first install was a disaster. It wasn't an error on my part. The bottom left of my screen protector would not adhere. So ,I had to redo,using the second screen protector. It went flawless. I'm not the type to complain,just to get free stuff. But I am a little bummed that the first protector went in the trash. I did message them today through their website. All I asked for was another piece of glass,so I would have a backup screen protector. I'll keep you informed of the cs and progress with it.
    I am also using the OtterBox Defender Pro,and love that case.

    • @SomethingMobile
      @SomethingMobile  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for sharing. I'm sure you did the install just fine. Sometimes the glass can be a little off or you might have had a glue vile that wasn't filled all the way. Will you please retrieve the glass from the trash if possible? If it is in some really dirty trash. Don't even bother lol. I'm just wondering if the glass has a noticable lift to it when laying on a flat surface. Also, whitestone sends you an extra vile of glue. It is possible to peel the dry adhesive from the used glass, and reaply it. It's not easy, but can be done. If ever in need of a screen protector while waiting for the new one. Thank you again for the info.

    • @kmsharley75
      @kmsharley75 Před 3 lety

      @@SomethingMobile Yeah the trash went outside in a tied garbage bag lol. One thing I did notice about the first glass was two vertical lines toward the middle of my display. At first I thought it was my wallpaper,and changed it. But the lines remained. That's when I became frustrated and took off the first piece of glass. After inspecting the glass by itself in the sun,I came to the conclusion that it was faulty.
      I do want to stress however,that the second glass went on flawlessly,and has none of the above issues. I'm sure this was just luck of the draw,and my main concern is that they get me another protector,so I have that backup glass in waiting, just in case. Thanks for the reply,good content man!
