      Hey I noticed with the 8.1 HU it’s a quad core with 2gb of RAM as opposed to the 8.0 with octa core and 4gb of ram. Any insight on that? I’m looking at it off the seicane website.

    Thanks for all of your Android head unit videos John!
    I'm pretty sure I have watched them ALL! Some of them three or four times! Your video's helped me finally pull the trigger on the Seicane 9 Inch Android Oreo unit after having a big empty hole in my dash for about a year and a half! I have a 2014 Forester that I did an epic custom Alpine INE-Z928HD 8" deck & Multi-amp install on in the Subaruforester.org forums a few years ago. Unfortunately my Forester was broken into and the Alpine was pried from my dash (lucky they left all my amps and speakers lol) I didn't want to go through all the dash cutting and customizing I had to do on the new dash again to replace the Alpine and started looking for Android units when I found your video's and Seicane.
    After several months of watching your videos and seeing your progression through Android decks I decided it was time to finally fill that hole in the dash! I ended up with the Seicane H235G model and I believe yours featured in this video is the H205G model. The 2014 Forester does not have the MFD control buttons on the dash (mine are on the steering wheel similar to paddle shifters) anyway Seicane assured me the H235G (for my Forester) and the H205G models were the same other than the plastic dash piece. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be 100% true. My unit seems to be missing the SD card slot and has a different launcher (although the apps look the same).
    I just received my unit last Friday (8/10) From Seicane after waiting several weeks to receive it. Seicane supplied multiple antenna wire harnesses as well as both the Subaru 20 pin and 28 pin wire harnesses. In fact the only wire harness they didn't supply was the stock USB port retention harness. $12 and an Amazon prime order later and that issue was resolved!
    Install was a snap (however I did reference SVXdc's website pinout just to verify the harness was wired correctly before physical install) after I verified the harness was wired correctly It was literally a simple plug and play install. Easy peasy went right in and hooked up to the balance of my multi-amp setup with only one minor issue. I did need to add one pin to the harness to power up the Subaru FM antenna amp & to remote turn on my Amplifiers. Lucky the thugs left me with SVXdc's 20 pin harness from my previous install with most of the wires still in tact. I just pulled a spare out of that harness and added it to the Seicane harness and away I went. That was really my only minor setback during install.
    I really was not expecting much by way of sound quality from the Seicane, and can attest that it surely does not match the SQ or tune-ability of my Alpine deck, however with a couple of little tweaks it sounds pretty good. Alpine good? No. As good as 80% of all the other decks that are not top shelf... YES! Absolutely. It does suffer from one issue that I am in the process of resolving. Even with all of my old school Rockford Fosgate 800a4 & 800a2 amp gains cranked to the max my amps remain severely under-driven by this deck. With most sources I can crank up the Seicane deck to 28/30 and my amps and speakers are asking the deck "is that all you got?" So it is obvious that the pre-outs are all only 2V pre-outs. Something some people may want to consider when purchasing the deck. The solution to this for me is going to be the AudioControl Matrix Plus 6 channel line driver that is being delivered tomorrow. The line driver will boost the pre-out's up to a level that my amps and speakers should scream "no more... PLEASE!" This will allow the appropriate drive to be applied to the amplifiers as well as allow me to crank the gains almost all the way back down to the bottom third "low noise" area they should be running in and give more dynamic range and headroom as well.
    When I first powered up the deck and played with it for several hours I was absolutely giddy with it! I think my modest audio quality trade off will be well worth the flexibility gain this deck provides particularly after the line drivers gets installed tomorrow. Is it perfect... No.. but it's pretty damned good! I have already hooked my 140GB SSD SATA drive up via a SATA to USB adapter. The Seicane supplied music app doesn't like this very much and takes a few minutes to tally up the folder\files on the drive and frequently crashes while playing this large of an MP3 collection, which leaves the drive in a corrupt state according to Android OS. Windows says the drive has no problems, but Android INSISTS it is corrupt! I have tried with a much smaller 60GB collection of MP3's on the drive and the default music app seems ok with that! Seems like the Seicane music app cant handle too many MP3 files\folders. Currently I am playing my MP3's using VLC (until I find something I like better) and it has not crashed one time with my full 140GB collection. So this appears to be an app issue. I do however need to remember to dismount the drive before I turn the car off to prevent Android thinking the drive is corrupt at power on. Still not sure what the deal is with this. It's a little rough around the edges in this regard, would love this to be better, but I guess it's acceptable, I just wish it would remember what song was playing and return to that spot at power on... oh well cant have everything.
    So far I am very impressed overall with the deck it has exceeded my expectations by a large margin so far. To anyone worried about sound quality all I can offer is this. It's not perfect, and really NEEDS line drivers installed in my opinion. I will also probably install Viper4Android for audio tweaking, but you need to take a look at how serious you really are about SQ. If you paid less than a grand for your set of two or three way separates in your doors\dash and overall have less than about $5K into your sound system you probably would be ok with the deck. Hell I don't even have a hint of spark plug or alternator wine and I was expecting that to be my BIGGEST issue as it usually is with cheap off brand car stereo's where they skimp on things like proper filtering.
    Impressed! Really impressed so far for the cost, flexibility of, and origin of the unit! I would recommend to all but the moderate to high level audiophile

    I have a quad core one with 2GB of RAM, and still no slowdowns. I use mainly radio, waze, cd player sometimes youtube. I have a separate car kit which sound better for calls. I am also the type of person that always closes background apps if not used. So unless you plan some really heavy use, even the lower specs is just fine.

      Does it come with iGO? I used to use Tom Tom and paid $50 bucks through the Play store but couldn't continue using it with Android 6. That was my fav gps app. Now I use either Waze or Maps. I've never used offline maps with Google that much and they don't last very long. When I travel I prefer Waze just for the warnings.
      Anyway I have seen a lot of these units include iGO.

    • @JohnNguyenVincent
      @JohnNguyenVincent  Před 6 lety +1

      Hey John,
      You would need to get a universal unit like this one.
      www.seicane.com/2-din-universal-radio-hd-touchtouch-android-gps-navigation-system-with-bluetooth-wifi-1080p-video-dvr-usb-mirror-link-rearview-camera-s6938?acc=45c48cce2e2d7fbdea1afc51c7c6ad26
      Then then get it wired with a harness and dash trim. I recommend you trying it or having a shop like best buy if you aren't familiar

    How do you feel about those 20 seconds during cold boot? Is it bothering you in any way when you come back to the car after this one hour has passed, i.e. first thing in the morning?

    • @JohnNguyenVincent
      @JohnNguyenVincent  Před 6 lety

      doesnt really bother me because once i start the car reverse, it's already starting to play. I dont need music instantly when i start my car anyways. Usually reversing its nice to have some quietness if you think about it.

    Really liking these head units! Just going to wait until warranty is up :)
    How would you compare this to the one SubiSpeed sells, also...is there any worry about warranty or splicing OEM wiring?
    I'd really love to have a front and rear camera for parking purposes.

      subispeed doesn't sell these anymore. I would say they are close but the ol' subispeed ones are 6.0 vs 8.0

    Hey, i love your videos on these headunits. I have an '18 WRX with harmon kardon and nav. It's NICE, but the sound sucks and the interface sucks and i guess i was lying, it's not nice. Have you seen any successful (and good sounding) additions to the HK system with their stupid extra amps and such or should i just wait and replace ALL THE THINGS when i do it. Also have you ever heard of later model years (my 2018) being able to change the backup camera to the top screen rather than where it shows on my main HU screen. Keep up the good work! You're helping me save myself from stock sounds!

    • @JohnNguyenVincent
      @JohnNguyenVincent  Před 6 lety

      Yeah, actually a guy just commented here, actually has a setup that's like yours. He had to buy his own amp and he got it to work. He wasn't a fan of the look of the headunit. The starlink headunit is actually pretty slow.

    If you were to tell someone to get an Android head unit which would it be? Would it be one of the newer ATOTO's? All the rest seem to be built around a couple of generic PX5 boards with their own branding. I like how the A6 with a Toshiba sound chip appears on paper, dual Bluetooth etc. They don't seem to be jumping on the Oreo bandwagon.
    I'm researching the heck out of this subject checking out AliExpress and Amazon and their reviews. Just can't make up my mind. I like tech and being up to date and that influences my leaning towards a PX5 machine. Joying has a 4gb with 64gb built in storage. I swing back and forth.

    • @JohnNguyenVincent
      @JohnNguyenVincent  Před 6 lety

      looks like you have been doing extensive research on these products. Good on you!
      As far as aliexpress and amazon, amazon is safer and prime shipping makes it easy.
      i haven't had too much luck with the brand atoto. I mean the only thing i dont like is their user interface too be honest.

    John- I have installed the Seicane H221K in my 2007 Honda accord. I have no onscreen display for my climate control. I have written Seicane an email, but no response yet. Do you have any ideas what it could be?

    • @JohnNguyenVincent
      @JohnNguyenVincent  Před 5 lety

      do you have the canbus installed and also in the advance setting you have to change the software to honda something. I didn't have to do it for the civic since they already did it by default (certain civic have a camera on side mirror when you blink, for an example).

    • @Growla
      @Growla Před 5 lety

      @@JohnNguyenVincent Hi Jonh- Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you for the reply. No I don't have canbus installed. I viewed your videos showing the passwords, but did not write them down. I will re-view them. I did get a reply today from Seicane, but to a different issue. My backup camera does not work on the head unit. I traced it down. The camera wiring is fine. The "trigger" wire to tell the head unit to switch to the backup camera is not working. In troubleshooting I jumped a wire from the + battery terminal directly to this wire. It simply does nothing. Anything under advanced for that?
      What can I expect for technical help from Seicane?

    These are going to be stupid questions to you folks who already know the answer. I am a 61 yr old car guy. I have worked on and understood most mechanical aspects of a vehicle and I used to install my owns stereo units but I don't have a clue about what is available now as far as electronics go. My Lincoln and Altima SR Coupe have awesome stereos with GPS. I have always used Garmin stand alone GPS in my other cars. I would like to get something for my Summer car. I hear a lot about Apple and Android Head units. My phones and Tablets all run on Android but I pretty well only use Wi- Fi for them. My phone has Data but I am pretty cheap when it comes to paying for that kind of stuff. Do the head units use the Data from a phone to work. Will I get enough use out of the new head units if I don't want to use the internet? I know the GPS has its own antenna. Would I still be able to play a DVD in it when I am waiting for my wife while she is shopping without internet. I always load up movies on to thumb drives or cards to play while flying or waiting at airports. Can I do that with this? I have been watching a lot of stereo oriented videos to try to learn but most channels just seem to assume its young knowledgeable viewers. I realize these may be dumb questions, but I don't want to lay out any cash without doing some homework. I do know that it doesn't end with buying the radio. I then have to get the new double din dash face plate and plug and play wiring. Sorry for the too long of letter. Just remember, us old guys like the electronic bling too. Keep up the the videos. Thanks.

      awoodworker Hey I'm 62 and somewhat tech savvy. Some of these head units you can add a 4G LTE dongle. Then go to your carrier and get a card and add it to your data plan. You can also share your phones data by setting up a hotspot. Not all Android head units are 4G LTE compatible even with a dongle.
