Hi Everyone 😀So after watching this video we want to know would / could you live in Whittier and why? looking forward to reading your comments - Sending much love Chris & Marianne xx
I’d love it there! Living in Florida it’s alway sunny. I love rain and snow. I’m just afraid of earthquakes. Never enjoyed those when living in California. Really enjoying your adventures. We’ll be going to Alaska for four or five months in a year or two. Hopefully gas prices will be better by then. Thank you for the videos! Happy travels!
No, I couldn't live there all year round! I'm guessing that they have deep snow for a lot of months if the year.. I would love to spend some time there though in summer just seeing and being in the majesty of the landscape and environment and the smallness of the town... Maybe til the first snows of winter fall... And I like the idea of getting the ferry back to Valdez. Is there a bus from Valdez to there or is the ferry only? Wow how fantastic that you got to go there and spent time in such a beautiful place on the planet... How on earth are you going to deal with returning to overcrowded highways and cities 🙄🤣
FYI the bug was a Spruce Sawyer - they only bite when alarmed! I was so freaked once when it was under my top I disrobed on the spot - Thank God no one was about. Beautiful segment today BTW. The way you film is so professional. Your dialogue, as always, is entertaining and interesting. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
We went through that tunnel in 2014. One of the things we loved about our 4 weeks in Alaska was experiences like that, that you don’t get anywhere else 😊
Great video.... The army should remove the old barracks before they become unsafe. These old structures are an eye sore to a beautiful landscape. I can't believe how many boats are in the harbour.
Your amazement at things we take for granted is refreshing. No matter which state you visit there are beautiful vistas and often we don't stop to smell the roses. Alaska is beautiful, but so are the other 49, in their own way.
Absolutely !! Everywhere has beauty and ugliness - living in a home on wheels - we can leave if we don't like it !! LOL - and we love sharing the places we love and find
That big empty building in Whittier was an Army facility that was damaged so badly in the 1964 earthquake that it was no longer safe to be occupied. It's huge and there is so much concrete that the cost to demolish it is beyond the ability of the town to pay the cost. So it remains as a bizarre monument to the Cold War ere in Alaska. A few years ago, my wife and I drove from Anchorage to Valdez and then came to Whittier on the ferry across Prince William Sound. It is one of the most beautiful boat rides one can take anywhere I've ever been. We've actually been to Whittier three time and found a great seafood café there. Last trip was in 2016 and I had halibut fish & chips in this cozy little joint called the Swiftwater Seafood Café. Great fishing here and also excellent bird watching along the sea cliffs close to the marina. An odd place and out of the way. But worth the experience to go through the tunnel and talk to the folks who live there.
I had to laugh today - I think whoever picks the Worldle image must watch your videos because today’s was from Whittier and I knew it immediately! 🤣🤣🤣 so thank you for your fab videos, and thank you for helping me guess Wordle in one! 🤣
I could live there, away from it all. As long as the other people are all okay, but I bet it is a little grim in the winter. Great vlog guys. Thank you.
Well that place is beautiful. The tunnels were kind of weird I would not it like it and drive through it you didn't either LOL love you guys safe travels and bless you both🙂🙏💜🌺🌺
amazin. love this episode. Excellent views, landscapes Chris happy that you got your pics of Eagles, I knew ya would. Much love to you both from Silgo/Leitrim Ireland. Nope Whittier, Alaska, nice for a visit but not to live, cabins in woods maybe.
I thought I was watching a scene from The Sound Of Music and Marianne was going to break into a Julie Andrews number lol…. Everywhere you look 👀 the scenery is stunning 🤩 🫶
We just came from that area...though Whittier is pretty cool, you missed Turnigen Arm that has 26 glaciers....but you have to access it by a boat or ferry ride. We had to wait for the train to go through the tunnel too! Beautiful wildlife all around you.
Hello Ambassadors I loved Whittier, highly interesting tunnel that is combining the RXR and black top I must admit that I loved the scenery again. Please, try to get yourself A pan and start doing the panning of gold since you are almost all the time around rivers. It would be a good video shoot as well. Love and more 💕💕💕 from the family back to you and the friends hello there💕💕👍👍🇹🇷🇹🇷 Thank you guys for great videos as well
As the salmon in that outdoor store would say, tanks for sharing 🐟 That was a long tunnel, but at least there was a light at the end of it. Fun fact: it’s always a bonus when the light at the end of the tunnel isn’t a freight train 😆
Views are quite spectacular and memorable! That tunnel would increase my anxiety -nothing cute about it! 😆 However the history uncovered was worth the trip! Keep on truckin’ my friends. Love, peace and good health to you both! 🌺🤲🏻🧿😊
Greetings from Turkey. I have been watching you since you came to Turkey with great pleasure. Have a nice trip in Alaska and thanks for the videos you shared👏👏👏
Welcome to Wettier sorry Whittier - Ok I’m not a lover of tunnels and I felt claustrophobic watching this. I’m assuming that the reason for the tunnels is due to the adverse weather in the winter to help people get around ? I love how Marianne said ‘but there’s a ferry back to Valdez’ 😁😁
We did a cruise that took us to Whittier and then by train through the long tunnel and over to Talkeetna and Denali National Park. By the way, Cabela's is owned by Bass Pro Shops and there are several of each all over the country here in the USA. All are quite similar looking. Most will allow overnight RV camping as boon docking. One last thing- on the Seward Highway from Anchorage, we saw a pod of Beluga Whales! Stunning sight. Glad you found the little park just outside of Whittier itself. Beautiful scenery! You both are so lucky!
New sub! I had to check your channel out after I saw your van at the Britton Creek rest stop off the Coquihalla hwy in BC. You chuckled at me when I yelled at guy he was going the wrong way. Sorry for my poor choice of words 🙊after he flipped me the bird 🙃
Hello friends . . what an amazing place and magnificent views . . yes I would love to live there such a peaceful small city (paradise) however can imagine how brutal the winter must be . . maybe be safer bunking (hibernate) in the tunnel during the winter lol . . your videos are so extraordinary epic capturing the beauty of this part of the world 🌎 thank you have a great day happy safe travels my friends ❤️🙋♀️🥰
"Look, kids, Big Ben! Parliament!" European Vacation was a funny part of the series! We're seeing more & more roundabouts around Seattle as time goes on. And maybe someday we'll learn how to maneuver thru them, too. 😉😉 Cabela's is a fantastic, mad place! Lots of stuff I have no business buying. 😆😆 Whittier is a very (in a word) unique place! Would love to visit, would not like to live there. In small towns everyone knows your business, but imagine sharing the same building! Props to Marianne driving in & out thru the tunnel! ❤️❤️😎👍xx
Thanks Mr P - yep it really is something unusual ... and not a great drive through the tunnel - but the bay and the fudge would tempt me back LOL !! Love to the family xx
Thanks for showing different parts of Whittier. Most videos just show the main tunnel to get there and the building where everyone lives. I enjoyed seeing the pedestrian areas and some great nature in the harbor and nearby the cabins. Keep up the great Alaska content.
love you guys. I got pulled over off a roundabout in Colorado for failing to signal when I exited. No one else was around but the parked cop in my direction. I was stoned, and had just moved there of I 70. He thought I was just old and senile, gave me a warning
It looks so peaceful and magical especially down by the river, but that tunnel is rather spooky, I cant imagine it was easy driving on those tracks inside the tunnel either. thanks for sharing the adventure!
I live in an apartment now so I don't see a big difference, except for the tunnel of course. I'm sure I could live there full time. Summers I could go out walking and winters I could stay inside and look out the windows. I could stay entertained I 'm sure and would love to not have to go out in the cold.
We have learnt so much about a place we never knew existed! Cracking vlog guys! Remember us humans are naturally eager to learn new things all the time, this is what makes good channels great channels, when our thirst to learn new things is quenched. Keep it up and safe travels!
Oh my goodness -how beautiful!!! Cabella's is quite a store!!! Marianne - you are amazing ! That tunnel was incredible! Wow - the scenery, the sights. the history of these towns!!
Love you 2 so positive with life, so natural with your comments of your trip. Few years I'll have my van living full time , not as brave as you 2 my goal will be finding the best parts of the uk only Norway Finland Denmark and Germany calls me to Europe . Hopefully I'll do that my 1st year I'll be 60 but can't wait x
Omg I really enjoy you guys words can’t explain God bless you tow on your travels and keep them epic videos coming stay healthy safe and blessed my friends 🥰🦋🙏🏾♥️🫶🏽
Moose do not have horns. They have antlers, which they shed each year. If you go to Fairbanks (or North Pole, AK), you should try to touch base with SomersinAlaska CZcams channel.
It is epic - I think that depends on the personality of the person ... we meet people that still stare at their garden and appreciate each flowers .... I hope to be like this when I stop travelling .... one day LOL !!
Actually its the longest tunnel that shares with a train in north America. Another fun fact .... the weather is almost always "shittier in Whittier" ... hahaha
About roundabouts I loves em they are cropping up in my Ohio USA area more often as a way to ease the traffic congestion but people stops at a yield sign not understand but I liked Australia use of "give way" sign it's more understanding than fancy word "yield" I wish they change those signs! As for roundabout you see extra space in center is for truck with long trailer to manuvers
If that tunnel had been in Houston, Atlanta or New York City it would have been decorated wall to wall with graffiti. For $13 they should have included a beer or hot dog.
Great watching your videos. Especially before going to bed. So relaxing. Hope I will dream of tosa beautifu, placea. But living in Whittier? I do 't think so. Looks great in August but what about in the winter ?

Thanks for visiting Alaska. You guys are EPIC.
The tunnel appears to be an inter dimensional portal to rain world. 🌧
Marianne and Chris ,You can stop the reflections on your windscreen by putting a towel on top of the dashboard , try it and see if it works
Thanks Duncan
Fabulous
Great video.... The army should remove the old barracks before they become unsafe. These old structures are an eye sore to a beautiful landscape. I can't believe how many boats are in the harbour.
Stunning scenery 😍
Can you imagine riding a motorcycle through that tunnel. Wow!
We saw that @itcyboots did it and it looked fabulous !!
Straight up Beautiful there. Thanks for sharing this with us
Brilliant. Loved this episode. Thanks for bringing us along :)

My friends were just in Whittier. They said the best part was the tunnel. Lol
Watching this provides a welcome respite from the glaring Texas sun and 101F temp today.
Hey yall hugs
More spectacular views, tunnel did look scary!
Yep - it was scary !!

Not as many hoodlums in Alaska
