- This is a recipe for easy lentil patties. They are delicious and can be eaten on their own, or on an English muffin, hamburger bun, or in a pita bread. They make a wonderful meatless burger. They are much cheaper to make than meat! It is an excellent budget meal.

Hi Grandma! I definitely will try this. I was at the store last week and three steaks (ribeye) were $45 and that was at Wally World. I have not had a steak yet this year, it’s out of control! Funny you would say that grandpa because I love falafel. I really enjoy middle eastern foods. I made an Asian soup with tofu cubes, Napa cabbage, spring onions, soy sauce, chicken stock, sweet onions🎉, carrots, a dash a sesame seed oil the other day and it’s delicious. I’ve been eating it for lunch. I am so glad that you show the hand written recipe at the end Grandma. Thank you ! You both stay well and God Bless!……. Brian
I don't know where you are, but if you have a local farm and meat market, sometimes the prices are at least a little better and the quality is excellent. I get steak at a local meat market. I buy a bulk case of frozen sirloins and they're excellent.

Dear Grandma, thank you for sharing such a gem! I am having my lunch now and the patties are delicious. My dough was a bit wetter than yours so I put a spoonful directly to the pan - instead of forming a pattie with my hands. I also added a pinch of cumin and curcuma. Thank you and well done! PS your cabbage soup was also a hit

Perfect, thanks. We make something similar but use tomato paste and squeeze the water out of the carrot. We also use brown lentils sometimes for more fiber and firmness. Our Mother served them with large lettuce leaves used as a taco shell, topped with the yogurt sauce and lemon to squeeze on top.

This is going to be a great summertime alternative to burgers, which I get a bit tired of in the summer! Too heavy sometimes! (I’d rather have a little plate of sweet potato fries!)This is a definite recipe we will use soon!
Two of our furry beauties - Gizmoe and Tommy Charles- passed away from natural causes in their teens. Nori, Suede, and Sneakers seem to be looking for them, but are very much comforted by playing with little Smudge and Mouse. Lily remains as the matriarch to all, having outlived eight of the nine kittens she had when young, before we could manage to trap her for her surgery. Gandalf, Lucy, and Lucky are particularly fluffy cats, and are happy to be shedding some of their coat to accommodate the summer heat. “Warlord”, so named because before we could trap him for surgery, he got some “battle scars” which include losing part of his right ear!, and Tigger (like in Winnie the Pooh!) are beginning to move pretty slowly due to advanced age. But they allow us to handle them enough to put flea medicine on, and to check them for pain, and to make sure they have no other problems the vet could treat.
“Warlord” has long gray fur, and the most beautiful, intensely colored celadon eyes we have ever seen! He is very much the gentle “patriarch” of the colony.
Our numbers have dwindled, which means that at least in our immediate area, people are doing better with spay and neuter!
I’m rambling! Sorry! Our indoor (born feral) Thomas Joseph - “TJ”- is in double digit age now too! Time flies!

This looks great! I've started cooking with lentils the past few years to cut costs. But I end up adding vegetables or sausage to the lentils, making a kind of stew--often tasting very Indian when I add lots of ginger, garlic, and cumin. These patties look like they could be used for a variety of burger-type sandwiches: great for lunch meal prep.

What a great idea. I always have red lentils in the house, to toss in with rice or other grains for more protein. These would be handy to keep in the freezer for days when you don't feel like cooking! So many ways to vary the recipe, too. Thanks! (Another site gave some inventive recipes using a waffle iron - that would be a fun alternative for cooking this as well.)

Was this a Indian recipe originally Grandma Feral? I had a Kashmiri friend show me a a very similar recipe that she said made a great dinner or lunch. The only difference is her recipe was oily and she made pancakes instead of burger shapes.
