i always thought Matlock looked like a seaside town without the sea ! wishing you all a safe and comfortable time while you all rebuild your lives . help one another, nobody is alone !
One of the things not helping is EU bans on dredging rivers in the UK in case we affect some rare water beetle or something. Think about that one on December 12th. It isn't a national emergency, it's local, and it was worse than this twice when I was a child in Matlock. The water was up past the library to the bottom of Steep Turnpike. I remember Woolworths being flooded out along with all the new shops on Firs Parade. The problem at Whaley Bridge was due to a dam wall still being in use a long time after it was probably expected to be disused and drained.
Squidlings I think that it is because the west is used to very high rainfall so the landscape is shaped by it and everything is built around that. The east gets it more rarely so communities are not so well prepared for it

I lived in Matlock at the time of the 60’s floods. This is terrible and so sad for the town centre businesses.
