Gregory, your advocacy for nonspeakers is helping so many. Thank you for sharing your beautiful mind with both the neurodiverse and neurotypical world. Your hard work is making a difference, Gregory! We are so proud of you!

Thankyou Gregory, I will be showing this to my own support worker. I'm verbal myself, but I showed him a similar video last week about the Spelling To Communicate method, and he cried at the opening of his eyes to the possibilities with those folk he supports who are non verbal.

Thank you for making this, Gregory. It's important for people to understand how the autistic mind works. But also, it's joyful to see someone so self-actualized as yourself giving back to your community.

    that was a great video.
You explained the connection of apraxia and not being able to communicate verbally very well and I think I understood it now differently than others have explained it. it's not that you don't have language and things to say in your brain, it's just that you have motor control difficulties to talk.
You're right. you and your friends are the experts for how you feel and think. you're the only ones that live with that brain of yours after all.
thank you for educating us. :D
I cried a bit at the end. Having friends that understand you is such a valuable thing.

It makes me happy that people are getting something out of my videos. I think autism is very poorly understood by all of the "experts" in the field.

Love this! Thank you for making it. I think it would really help my mom understand autism better. I especially love all the examples of you and your friends that you included.
    “Experts say… “ :)
“Who’s the expert now?” Haha! Thanks again, Gregory!

Gregory, my daughter is 13 and has nonverbal autism. We use the letter board for education and communication. We are in South East Pennsylvania. On the outside it looks like she rejects most things. I homeschool her and she is without peers and is very restrictive. I hope one day she will be as willing as you and the others in this video.

    • @gregoryctino558
      @gregoryctino558  Před 2 lety +8

I am going to say that she may reject things but I am rather sure that she doesn't really want to.
This happens to me all the time! The words that come out of my mouth are never what I really mean. To be understanding of that is the way to help her.

@@gregoryctino558 I don't know, Gregory. Hahaha. You have to meet her. It looks very deliberate and she usually spells out that she doesn't want to do things.

@@jdamp9786 I'm autistic too. Some times is not due to the thing itself but for everything around it or our own state.
For example: I love meeting my friends but the noise around, temperatures, new places... All of that is too overwhelming the majority of times and I end up not going. Also I tend to be very deregulated since it's very hard for me to know how I'm feeling or even if I'm hungry or sleepy and that adds up to the difficulties.
Try looking forward to see what she struggles the most and expose her to situations were she can do those activities without the stressors. Also find if she has all her needs covered and did sleep well or so. Most of us have problems with communication bc we feel frustrated and stop trying due to our different way of expressing ourselves, misunderstandings or just bc it doesn't feel good.
Btw: Meeting new people and interacting with them is always positive. Even though it's hard sometimes we can enjoy company and learn from them. It helps in socialization. I don't know the details about the way you educate her but reaching for professional help, groups of her age, etc. Might be interesting.

I am considered verbal yet mouth words do not serve me well. I use AAC but not with others because they expect me to use verbal speech. Verbal speech is exhausting and AAC gives me another means of communication. I have been called many mean names for trying use a method that best serves me. I have a video on my CZcams channel that shows me using AAC. I have subscribed to your channel. 🫂☺️
