Back then, audiences were not allowed to film or even take picture at his concerts. It’s only the advent of the mobile phone era that modern day performers have had to “allow” private recording and still many insist that it’s not permitted. But you speak to anyone who was at an🎉 Elvis concert and they will say the memory of it is inscribed into their heart and mind. 👌💕🕺

The year 69 marks Elvis' return to the stage, in the best Elvis Presley style, electrifying, rock and roll, hypnotizing, full of energy and with a lot of desire... this brought thousands of people to Las Vegas to see him, it was so much critical success that it aroused Hollywood's interest in producing a film showing this season in Vegas. The film Thats the way it is was produced in 1970. This film generated many hours of recording with fantastic performance scenes as well as rehearsal scenes for the shows, showing how charismatic Elvis was and had a great sense of humor. Great rare scenes with high musical quality.

Love this song. It’s like he’s doing Rock again. It’s just a fun tune for dancing and good times. So upbeat and funny with Elvis. That’s a sore spot. First time in front of a live audience and none of the performances were taped. RCA did the audio. Where was the Colonel here. E could have made tons of money. They had every celebrity going to these. It’s a shame. But I still love the upbeat music. Many fan photos have come in but I believe if you started to tape they’d stop you. There are several videos on U tube in which fans did film him and people recently have updated and clarified what they took as best as possible. I saw parts of a couple 69 performances but not whole shows etc. it’s a shame. Someone was off their game from his manager to RCA. They’d have eventually made DVDS today and would still be selling them, just as TTWII has sold and is still selling. Let’s hope Baz Lurhman comes out with the never before seen footage of TYWII AND ELVIS ON TOUR. Last week he stated he was working on it. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 😂❤❤

Well I loved it, the very essence and being of the man. As far as PROFESSIONAL filming is concerned re years when he performed live Seph - one TV show January 1957 no concert film - nothing re 3 concerts 1961 when he was probably number 1 in the world, and then nothing in 1969, 1971, 1974, 1975, 1976, and one last throw of the dice June 1977 weeks before his passing. Nothing from January 14 1973 until June 19 1977 - unbelievable.

@gorse9030 Ah, yeah sorry. That is a real shame. I heard it was because after Aloha RCA saw Elvis declining in his performances and didn't do anything for a while. But the thing is there were plenty of good ones in between so why choose 77 when we know where Elvis was at that point?

@@ElvisForevermore I don't know exactly why, but amateur film existing of Omaha June 30/ Jul 1 1974 show a great performance as an earlier performance, not brilliant film quality, LA in May 1974 where Led Zeppelin were present, there was for starters a fantastic version of PSA. The RCA recorded performance at Memphis March 74 was exceptional but no film again while the Pittsburgh New Year 1976 was another one. All these could have been filmed along with July 1975 tour where he was on top vocal form and sang a fabulous live performance of You'll Never Walk Alone. Thinking again perhaps the Colonel was the reason asking for exorbitant payments as was his way..

I personally don't know if I could handle this song plus a video. The way he sings this song alone almost makes me faint. The audio of this unbelievably charismatic, intense performance PLUS seeing him as we know he looked in 1969 from the still photos out there? I'd be on the floor. Just too much. I don't know how any of the women of that era who actually saw him live, especially in '69 and '70, were able to walk out of the concert venues, let alone go about their ordinary lives afterwards... 🤣 --Marie

I had to say the above before getting right into it.
Okay, so I will be leaving links at the end cuz it's a lot & I got Elvis Easter Eggs to share 😃👍
But first song info + song history info:
My Babe" is a Chicago blues song and a blues standard written by Willie Dixon for Little Walter.[1] Released in 1955 on Checker Records, a subsidiary of Chess Records, the song was the only Dixon composition ever to become a number one R&B single and it was one of the biggest hits of either of their careers.
Dixon based "My Babe" on the traditional gospel song "This Train (Is Bound For Glory)", recorded by Sister Rosetta Tharpe as "This Train". He reworked the arrangement and lyrics from the sacred (the procession of saints into Heaven) into the secular (a story about a woman that won't stand for her man's cheating): "My baby, she don't stand no cheating, my babe, she don't stand none of that midnight creeping."
Now "This Train (Is Bound For Glory)" song info:
This Train", also known as "This Train Is Bound for Glory", is a traditional American gospel song first recorded in 1922. Although its origins are unknown, the song was relatively popular during the 1920s as a religious tune, and it became a gospel hit in the late 1930s for singer-guitarist Sister Rosetta Tharpe. After switching from acoustic to electric guitar, Tharpe released a more secular version of the song in the early 1950s.
The song's popularity was also due in part to the influence of folklorists John A. Lomax and Alan Lomax, who discovered the song while making field recordings in the American South in the early 1930s and included it in folk song anthologies that were published in 1934 and 1960. These anthologies brought the song to the attention of an even broader audience during the folk music revival of the 1950s and 1960s. Another song, called "The Crawdad Song", uses the same melody.
The earliest known example of "This Train" is a recording by Florida Normal and Industrial Institute Quartette from 1922, under the title "Dis Train". Another one of the earliest recordings of the song is the version made by Wood's Blind Jubilee Singers in August 1925 under the title "This Train Is Bound for Glory". Between 1926 and 1931, three other black religious groups recorded it. During a visit to the Parchman Farm state penitentiary in Mississippi in 1933, Smithsonian Institution musicologist John A. Lomax and his son Alan made a field recording of the song by black inmate Walter McDonald. The next year the song found its way into print for the first time in the Lomaxes' American Folk Songs and Ballads anthology and was subsequently included in Alan Lomax's 1960 anthology Folk Songs of North America.
In 1935, the first hillbilly recording of the song was released by Tennessee Ramblers as "Dis Train" in reference to the song's black roots. Then in the late 1930s, after becoming the first black artist to sign with a major label, gospel singer and guitarist Sister Rosetta Tharpe recorded "This Train" as a hit for Decca. Her later version of the song, released by Decca in the early 1950s, featured Tharpe on electric guitar.
In 1955, the song, with altered lyrics, became a popular single for blues singer-harmonica player Little Walter Jacobs as "My Babe". This secular adaptation has since become a rock standard recorded by many artists, including Dale Hawkins, Bo Diddley, Cliff Richard (three times), and the Remains.
    Songwriter Bio Info (Short):
William James Dixon (July 1, 1915 - January 29, 1992) was an American blues musician, vocalist, songwriter, arranger and record producer. He was proficient in playing both the upright bass and the guitar, and sang with a distinctive voice, but he is perhaps best known as one of the most prolific songwriters of his time. Next to Muddy Waters, Dixon is recognized as the most influential person in shaping the post-World War II sound of the Chicago blues.
For more info see link here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willie_Dixon
Elvis performed "My Babe" a total of 4 times in August 1969 in Las Vegas. However the first time he performed "My Babe" on August 15, 1969 (Midnight Show) was not recorded.
The other 3 times (lucky for us) were recorded.
    The dates are as follows:
    August 22, 1969 (Midnight Show)
    August 25, 1969 (Midnight Show)
    August 26, 1969 (Dinner Show)
Elvis would only perform this songs number of 4 more times in total after 1969, during his 1971 and 1972 tours respectively.
The two last times were in Chicago (June 17, 1972) & Fort Worth, Texas (June 18, 1972).
For whatever reason Elvis chose not to perform "My Babe" during any of his 4 shows at Madison Square Garden in June of 1972.

Seph- Promotors, managers and artists did NOT want fans to record or film them. Unlike today, live shows were the most money making part of the business for them. People went out nightly to concerts, because there was no other way to see entertainment. There was no internet, cable tv or other platforms to see them on. Only still photos & records. Movie theaters or a tv appearance every few years, if they were a big seller. Video cameras did not exist then, & though people had silent 8mm film cameras, it would get you in big trouble and your cameras would be confiscated. So would your film, or tape. It was printed on front & back of your tickets “Absolutely NO cameras or recorders permitted”. The business ran differently because the revenue streams were very different. Put your mindset in 1969……..

Knowing what type of man Colonel Parker was, he probably would have sued anyone that tried to film an Elvis concert. When Elvis put his foot down about no more crappy movies, concert films (That's the Way It Is and Elvis On Tour) were the only Elvis products in movie theaters.

Thanks so much. So grateful someone snuck in a filming of this from the audience.

The Colonel's fault. The 69 opening in LasVegas should definitely have been recorded!! We are missing so many good years in Vegas and on tour. There are bits and pieces out there but not nearly enough. I hope some of the professionally recorded tapes get released soon. Elvis always said if he didn’t put on a good show, his fans might as well stay home and listen to his records. ❤❤❤

@@Barbara-lb5yt, absolutely, Barbara! I agree. I love this and though I didn't see him perform it live, I still can imagine...❤ IMO, the Colonel and Priscilla were so toxic and were the worst mistakes Elvis ever made.😢

Col Parker & Elvis intentionally did not film these shows. They knew exactly what they were doing and had big plans. The 1969 International Hotel shows were actually a sort of ‘full dress rehearsal’ for the upcoming, soon to be filmed movie “That’s The Way It Is” in 1970. People who were not there at the time, should not criticize the business deals which were very beneficial to Elvis’ career. The Colonel was brilliant at these type negotiations. Elvis knew that and appreciated it.

@@Barbara-lb5yt I was not replying specifically to you. Look at my comment. It was addressed to people in general who weren’t there, but we’re trying to insult the management decisions. If you were there, then you know that the reason these shows weren’t filmed was because the intention was to work out the best version of the show for the upcoming film before they got Hollywood involved. It was planned this way.

@@Barbara-lb5yt Elvis was doing what he wanted, and was free to do what he chose. What he wanted most, was freedom for himself, & his family, to be able to do whatever they chose on a daily basis. The deals he cut, gave him that freedom. Thanks.

The Colonel was afraid somebody other than him was going to make a buck off of Elvis if somebody filmed him....Thay's why so much was NOT filmed . It usually wasn't allowed.

Wrong. The business then operated in a way, where live shows were the top money making part of the business. No one of any stature would let fans film or record their shows. That was music business precedent long before the days of Col Parker with Elvis. You can’t blame him for protecting his client’s most valuable commodity. There was no internet, home video, cable tv or any other way to see artists, and you had to go to live shows. That is why it was illegal to film and record an artists shows in most jurisdictions. It was “bootlegging”.
