The whole point of a speeding fine is to reduce the amount of people speeding, so when the amount of people speeding increases instead of decreasing then it is evidence that the entire system is broken and is not fit for purpose…. @4tr3x92 Před rokem +12

If emissions are the issue then the best method of reducing it is to keep traffic moving at a constant speed. Acceleration (caused by deceleration) uses much more fuel. Surely the use of roads need to be looked at to improve the free flow for the majority. By me there is a bus lane for a few hundred yards up to an island used once every 15 minutes at most. But the cars back up 4 times this length which in turn slows the bus. Counter intuitive much? If this was removed (like it was until 8 years ago) then traffic would flow better. This was put in because the council gets more grants if they have x amount of bus routes...
But this is not emission related. Cars are now safer for all than ever, BUT the 20 is plenty minority are winning because local government (councils) know they can use it to their advantage and yet again suck the people of more money and time.

Also, I can count on one hand the amount of men whom would describe their driving ability as being "average" or even "below average" - Check out the "Dunning-Kruger Effect". I suspect that many people believe the driving rules are for "other people" but not for someone as highly skilled and important as them. I also suspect the reason for the lack of courtesy on the roads is due to how cars are marketed now - it's as if the car is an extension of the vehicle owner's ego and social position. For this you need look no further than the craze for having a "personalised" number plate (what I call w⚓ plates). Add to all this all the gadgets in cars now (info-tainment screens, cup holders, in-built mobile phone connectivity) and it's no wonder why motor insurance is so high. Anyway, stay safe and consider getting a dash-cam front and back if you haven't already. 👍🏼

It's all largely a cash grab and not about safety. I was driving in North Wales recently. A part of the UK well known for its draconian and overzealous use of speed restrictions and cameras. I was driving along a 70 mph limit dual carriageway, which for no legitimate reason suddenly became a 50 mph with average speed check cameras.
Very soon after entering the 50 mph average speed enforcement section of the road, the reason became clear. The road went into a decline, which, if you were not careful to notice and thus constantly ride your brakes, would have your car naturally continue to gradually keep increasing its speed above 50 mph without it being clearly apparent to you. As soon as the decline ended and the road levelled out again the 50 mph average speed check enforcement immediately ended, and the road returned to a 70 mph speed limit again.
It was so obvious that the 50 mph average speed check cameras had been deliberately placed on just that section of declining road to deliberately take advantage of and catch drivers out on the decline for getting fine revenue. Their placement was absolutely nothing to do with safety.

I've been driving for 50yrs never had an accident and always been mindful of others on the road The new 20 mph maximum is a idiotic idea, people will not be able to hold that speed ,and will end up with points and fine and could probably lose their licence within a week ,also modern cars don't run at so low a speed and owners will have repair bills blocked catalytic converters.

interestingly enough, probably more than half of clients in awareness courses are over 50. mostly 'old skool' drivers that get snagged by the machines. 33 in a 30. etc, I've done about 5 of them, motorway courses as well., run by some of the most 'punchable' idiots the law has produced. ...

Totally agree with the speed limits being looked at, I drive a Vw T6.1 swb panel van yet I can only do 50mins on main roads and 60mph on duel carriageways, the van is like a car and the safety features are better than most cars. It’s unbelievably that a small van can be classed in this way.

This also means that cars which can do the full 60mph are often held up in a queue going at 50 where there's a small white van at the front. Effectively, all 60 roads are now 50 roads because of this. It also increases accident risk as drivers attempt to overtake.

What ALL motorists need to do is drive no faster than 10-12 mph for a day or two in ALL built up areas throughout the nation. The congestion and exhaust fumes will be so decisive that police will be out telling drivers to 'put their foot down', to alleviate the traffic jams. But drivers should refuse to do so stating that low speeds are clearly what the government wants and that they're OBLIGED to follow the law!

Holding 20mph requires constant observation of the speedometer, no chance of focus on the road ahead; bonkers and dangerous

Don't drive unless youve had enough sleep the night before. Not knowing what you are doing is a sign of high stress levels and impending mental health problems. Go and see your doctor, meanwhile don't drive until you have the all clear

This is what happens when people don't understand the system they live in and vote in local elections to punish the gov they don't like in Westminster...
People pay absolutely no attention to what's going on in their local councils, and the current situation (along with 15 min cities, low emission nonsense etc.) has been coming on very slowly for many years.

It sounds like a great way to ensure that emergency vehicles are unnecessarily held up behind growing cues of drivers who are paying more attention to there speedometer than they are the road ahead and behind them.

Same across Europe. France, nearly all villages are now 30km(20 mph) Note! The limit sign is the village name sign when entering.
