    Hello Jeff,
    I was waiting for this video to make my decision; however, I made my decision three weeks ago and purchased the RS4 PNP version based on your build series and review. It was the perfect choice for myself because I do not own a PC, I only have Macs. I followed your build series to the letter and setup and when I maiden it very early in the morning (no wind), it hovered about six feet off the ground for thirty seconds hands off with no forward and sideway movement. I then flew circuits of circles and figure eights. I am not a 3d pilot...yet but this heli was a pleasure and easy to fly at 55%. I can get about eight minutes of flight time on the 1800 mah 70c battery. Thank you again for your videos and hard earned efforts. Without them, it would have been more difficult for me as this was my first build and setup on a heli. I watch your build series on the RS4 Venom on the HeliDirect web site and can't wait to see your test flight. Take care and thank you again. I greatly appreciated all your efforts in helping others in this hobby to make it grow stronger. 🧙‍♂👍

      @@westhobbiesrc8051 I have been trying to post a comment under this video multiple times, and every time I posted it, it mysteriously vanished shortly after. Sometimes seconds, sometimes half an hour or so. No idea what's up with that, sorry I assumed it was you if it wasn't.
      Short form is, you can contact your retailer for a free replacement of your transport damaged canopy at OMPHOBBY's cost. Sending them a 2-liner and a photo via email should suffice, and they will make it right, which will be a very easy and free resolution for your issue. If you contact your retailer about it today, you will have a new canopy in your hands in a couple days, possibly before the weekend, and very likely can even keep your current canopy as a backup/beater canopy. If you do not contact your retailer however, how would they ever know anything is wrong, how are they supposed to resolve your issue? Please be aware that OMPHOBBY was on holiday the week you reported this issue, so they weren't in a position to reply. They will also not be able to replace it directly out of China, as it would be very uneconomical and would take much longer than obtaining a replacement through your retailer.
      I'm hoping this comment will persist.

      @Johnny31297 Před rokem +5

      @@westhobbiesrc8051 Seems the comments are persistent within this comment chain. While this works, I would like to add a note about the power, as well as the FBL setup:
      Regarding headspeed and motor performance, please be aware that 90% throttle is above the maximum rated RPM for the airframe. Maximum allowed is 3500RPM (87.5%), at 90% you are running the helicopter at 3600RPM. The motor is optimized for governing around 3000RPM with maximum efficiency, with 3500RPM being possible, but requiring good condition batteries in order to be able to hold the RPM under high load. Turning your throttle up to 100% unfortunately will not help either, as you're taking away almost all governor headroom and you will see even more bogging. At that point you would be running 4000RPM, which is way over the rated rotor speed of the airframe. Please avoid doing this.
      Instead, I would recommend that you try increasing your collective pitch range. I don't know how much collective pitch you're running, but my personal recommendation is 2800RPM-3000RPM (70-75%) with +-14° collective, which will be plenty for almost all styles of 3D flying. The absolute maximum any of our pilots run is 3200RPM, I don't think anyone besides Tareq will ever need anything more than that. Otherwise, yes, try a better Lipo if you still want to run very high headspeed. The motor is rated to easily be up to the task up to 3500RPM, but your battery has to be able to hold its voltage to provide sufficient current to eventually make the required torque. The OMPHOBBY 6S 2000mAh 70C battery seems to be doing a good job at these high loads.
      As for the gains, you can find a pre-made BRAIN2 setup on the M4 product page of the OMPHOBBY website under Support&Manual, which should take 95% of the tuning work out of the setup.
      Happy flying, enjoy the M4!

    After a large analysis of the design of the M4 and RS4, I realized that the M4 is a more competent helicopter in terms of design, I also realized that the cost of spare parts for the M4 is much more pleasant, given that the quality of both helicopters is identical. I also got 2 canopies from the RS4 and they were of terrible quality, both were damaged out of the box. Unfortunately, I only flew RS4 and I want to say that it drains the 1800mah battery very quickly. Appearance is a matter of taste, but the pc4 is ugly in my opinion.
    Definitely I should get this M4, it is the most thoughtful helicopter in its class.
    I also want to say that the native pc4 controller is very stable, but as a person flying a futaba cgy760, I'm used to the impeccable accuracy of the helicopter, so the pc4 controller flies terribly for me, the helicopter seems to be constantly floating at stops.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  Před rokem +3

      Yes, the design of the M4 is nice but the designer of the M4 is white kills the helicopter. The way the company handled a certain situation and other situation that I have personally seen leave me to not support them. No doubt that every company is going to have issues, but it is how it is resolved. Heli Canopies come cracked quite often. But they always replace them. Not OMP. Blade shipping and get left high and dry. Now I will agree that the flight controller that comes with the RS4 PNP is definitely not the best. Leaves a bit to be desired for that is why I built the venom with a iKon. As far as eating the battery, I have not experienced that. I flew both helicopters side-by-side today same time or same head speed, and the M4 motor was extremely hot to the point of could not touch it and battery came down at 15% 4 minute flight on a 6s 1800mAh. The RS4 with the same battery and head speeds came down at 15% as well and motor was cool. Much more efficient motor and a lot more power. Personally, my choice is the RS4 over the M4.

    The M4 definitely should not fly 'heavy'. It sounds like you havent got enough collective pitch range? Recommend that you follow the setup in the manual on page 20. DO NOT run throttle as high as 90 or 100%, this would be approaching 4000RPM which exceeds the maximum safe RPM (3500) and certainly not necessary, even for the most hardcore 3D flying. Personally I use 70% (2800RPM) and 14 deg pitch as my highest headspeed, as per the manual.

      This time, and for a change, I built and flew the M4 before your build videos. I experienced no issues with the build, and for me, doing light 3D, the M4 serves as good trainer. Actually less tail issues with my M4 than with my T-Rex 470. Then again the M4 feels less agile than the 470. I guess the latter is related to the power to weight ratio, which you also comment on in your video. I would still personnaly recommend the M4 as a well suited and affordable 3D trainer for intermediate pilots.

    Hi Jeff,
    One can literally hear that you are not amused about the way things went with the customer service. Whatever happened, that is certainly not the way any customer should feel 🤔
    Besides what is really strange is that the rpm of the motor drops so much under load. Can there be an issue with the ESC settings? It hard to imagine that OMP put something that underpowered on the market. Setting the throttle to 100% cannot be the right solution since it must lead to a very high (maybe critical) rpm!
    On the other side the motor is crucial in a direct drive heli since you have live with whatever comes with the kit..
    Anyway I am looking forward to your comparison video - I think all three helis are very interesting and sexy 😀

      Hello! So, I for one was very excited about the M4. For a long time ever since the very first rumor of it came out years ago. As you or anyone who watches the channel knows, I promote all helicopters regardless of the brand. After I built the kit I had a few issues. I simply made a post on an OMP group on Facebook. Stating the issues that I had with the build and I was disappointment immediately I was getting bashed by the designer of the helicopter and multiple of OMP Hobby’s team, pilots and representatives. Immediately started calling me a hater that I purposely made issues with the kit just to bash and promote another product and so on. Meanwhile, I never stated any other product any other company or helicopter just facts of the issues that I ran into. I was left high and dry and I am personally not the owner of this helicopter. I built for a customer the issues were never resolved and just a big FU because apparently it was me. So now the owner gets a helicopter back with a destroyed brand new canopy out of the box. We had to buy out of pocket a new tail shaft because it was bent and drilled holes in the carbon fiber just tightened the boom clamps down. A combination of the issues and the way that the situation was handled. Really turn me off of OMP for good. I could personally never promote or recommend their products because of the attitude in the customer service that was given. I hope that at least songs of the situation and what i dealt with. On top of all that I was very disappointed to hear the RPM and motor bog so bad under hard loads. I did turn the throttle curve up to 100% on another flight and yes the RPM was higher but still bog down. This kit could’ve been one and 1000 with issues. I know every helicopter that is mass-produce is going to have issues and I am one to fix problems but when a company responds the way they did that is enough for me to never support them.
