    This is a charming scene, for many reasons. First, she's not totally glammed up as she usually was, so along with the spectacular outdoor background, her realistic and natural-looking clothes make her more down-to-earth. Second, she sings an innocent and simple song, very well. Third, she's interacting with a little boy instead of an adult man. All of this is very different from the more familiar Marilyn movie appearances.

      @ccgrey8731 Před 4 lety +21

      @@nette9836 But remember Marilyn was making a living for herself at a time when many woman didn't. She was an independent woman. Marilyn also started her own production company which was unusual in the 1950's. The thing is that 20th Century Fox saw her as a marketable sexpot and Marilyn wanted to succeed. It's not difficult to imagine that she felt elated by the attention and adoration of the fans after growing up with no real family and having been sent to live in an orphanage and then a series of foster homes. No one wanted to keep her and give her any stability or security. I'm sure the sexual abuse she experienced during that time also contributed to her feeling the her looks and body were all anyone wanted. But she worked hard on improving in acting and took it very seriously. In a few of her early roles Marilyn got to play against the sexy blonde type she was usually cast as. In Don't Bother to Knock, she played a character that is mentally disturbed. In Clash By Night, her character works in a cannery and rough houses with her boyfriend. Even her Paula character in How To Marry A Millionaire isn't a very sexual one. Marilyn's worst role was the popular The Seven Year Itch. Her character didn't even have a name and clearly she was highly exploited just as a sex symbol. I think Marilyn would have been much better off without being in that film. That film made it difficult for her to get different sorts of roles. But she did follow it with Bus Stop which was actually a big contrast. Sadly Marilyn was never able to play the parts she wanted.

      Kind of agree although its rumored that John Kennedy asked to be introduced to her with I'm guessing an idea of her immediate attraction to him and power... His only intention was to take advantage of her. She somehow also became involved with Robert. Marilyn wasn't a total loner, she had friends who took her in and let her live with them as family and she was close to her half-sister (same mother) ... yet it seems she felt so alone. Lastly, Marilyn had a power that the u.s. gov wasn't happy with her having, she was the most popular and therefore most influential person in the u.s. at that time, which made her 'dangerous' especially by today's standards, no entertainer is allowed to become single-handedly as influential these days ...

She is abottleblonde ie the peroxide bottle got a good work out to maintain that platinum shadeof pale blonde. Ifyou dye your hairblonde usingperocide fromyourdarker hair, like she had, you simply cannot grow it that long and healthy looking. It just all dries out, splits and breaks off. You have to have it short to look good. But, even if shecould have grown itthwt long, even constantly bleaching it blonde, it would have taken years to get it that long and lush if it was her own hair, not a wig.

      There's this book I'm reading where some of the chapters talk about multiplying your God given talents and gifts I'm a big believer that while in your mother's womb her mom either had things spoken over her so whatever things that were spoken to her mom it resignated to Ms Norma Jean now she dropped out of high school so that may have held her back but back then the war was starting and from what I take she's working at some factory out in California I do believe also that everything happens for a reason Romans 8:38 All things work together for the good to those who are called according to his purpose people may read that and think what's this got to do with my career I believe we're shaped by the situation we experience we go through or face things happen for a reason while at times with Monroe you wonder why things like that happen to someone like her temptations were real for her so she had no structure surrounding her

I kept singing the theme song about the river of no return while I reenacted her scenes in our basement. The Misfits with Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe is quite memorable. The scene where Marilyn Monroe bounces the rubber ball connected to the paddleboard was another scene I tried to reenact as a nine year old. I believe that was Clark Gable’s last movie. Mom also took me to see the memorable movie Niagara with Joseph Cotton and Marilyn Monroe. Thank you mom for introducing me to the world of cinema. Thank you Marilyn for your wonderful contribution to the arts.
