So what's happening here is a combination of things - the Bridgestone RE-71RS tires have too much grip for the stock suspension and it's causing a rear wheel to lift off the ground around tight turns. When that happens under acceleration, the torsen differential sends all the power to the wheel in the air and spins freely. It seemed to do this more on left-hand corners than right. The simplest solution would be to get a 1.5 way differential and tune the suspension from there.
I'm going out to Gingerman Raceway soon, so I'm very curious to see how the car feels at higher speeds. I love the rotation and balance of the chassis, but feel like there are definitely improvements to be made with the suspension and most importantly, the differential. I love the grip and balance from the 205 width square RE-71RS tire setup. As Tire Rack proved recently, tire compound and wheel width are more important than sizing. A narrower tire is actually faster and more responsive on a narrower wheel. We'll see how I feel about that with square 205 width winter tires lol.
Do a 255 square set up 17x10 +50, front sway bar, and ap1 need rear toe arms to fix suspension geometry problems ap2 fixed
I changed my setup to a square 255 17x10 on Enkei PF01 tires. It fixed a lot of those behaviors and really changed the driving experience of the car. It is almost hard to get it to misbehave now.
@777aterial yup its the new go to set up now. I dropped 3 seconds from 17x9 same tires. Less flex so steering is improved plus gain like half inch of contact patch
Without a passenger I bet it won’t do that so much around left turns
@@Ben-bg2eg I have this same car year and all. Trust me, it does this with or without a passenger. It is the reason I went for a bigger setup.
Thanks for the upload Topher - almost went down a yt shorts rabbit hole! Uploads save lives
You have to be very familiar with AP1’s at the limit. There is no warning sign, if you’re off an unexpected snap oversteer will bite you. God I loved my S2000, my Elantra N has been a fantastic replacement thus far.
It’s like the new Supras. I’ve been off track with both several times 😂
I’m sorry, but an EN is a massive downgrade from an AP1 in terms of a drivers car
@@TheCaffeinatedDrive Having owned the S2000 and many other driver focused automobiles. I couldn’t disagree more with your comment.
@@jasonscotta7129 One is a RWD LWS car with a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder that revs to 9000 in a chassis built ground up as a sports car. The other is a FWD econobox with a turbo i4 that was meant to be a performance bargain and give the type r a run for its money.
I’m sorry, but it’s s really not even a comparison
@@TheCaffeinatedDrive Btw, fuel cut of limiter is 8900, not 9000. Power in the F20c drops off around 8500. I’m sure if you were building a solely focus sports car as you say, it wouldn’t be a convertible right? Lot of aerodynamic issues, as well as the steering feel, extremely numb. That FWD econobox as you quote decimated my S2000 at the track.
For the tier of vehicle the EN is in, it’s absolutely incredible at what it does. Now, if tiers aren’t necessary. Haven driven the likes of NSX Type R, Ford GT, 996 GT3, E30 M3 and so on. I wouldn’t miss my S2000 much nor my EN.
Nice bit of rally driving there Toph! Corolla looks neat
Man that car sounds amazing.
I love how even though its a tiny track the corners have camber. It allows you carry a little more speed than you would think.
That looks like so much fun! I'm surprised how easily the tires break loose at lower speeds with the torque curve of the S2000. Looks rowdy 😄
That's the torsen rear diff spinning up while the rear tire is lifting off the ground. Pretty wonky handling in stock form with sticky tires!
@TheTopher That must be what I have read on the internet, the cause of snap oversteer. Loved watching this!
That looked so fun
the color😍
The S2000 only came in manual ❤❤❤
Bro, try out for NASCAR you are natural at this!
@ 9:25 I legitimately thought this was Nathan from The Fast Lane Car (TFL). He's his identical twin, right down to his voice... especially at 9:43 😂
Your engine and diff mounts are gone based on how much your shifter is vibrating. If you feel vibration under acceleration, your diff mounts are gone.
Rwd, my 2020 86 with 20,000 miles does it too
@@bigbodyherm That's cool, but the S2000 is not an 86. I own an S2000, and this is an S2000 specific issue, not a general manual-transmission issue, as the S2000's shifter is directly connected to the trans and doesn't use linkage cables like the 86, and this much vibration is a tell-tale sign of worn mounts. But thank you.
@@omg_stoppit thank you daddy
Oh yeah, it definitely needs a full engine, trans, and diff mount refresh.
Redline so high he couldn’t get out of second
vtec noises
It looks like your rear tires are too narrow which could be the problem. The stock Ap1 Potenza tires say a 225 on the sidewall, when actually the rear tire width is a 255… people make this big mistake when swapping from the original OE tires… always 255 in the rears
Why would they label it like that?

How can I find this Midwest Motorsports complex? I'm in Wisconsin and would make the trip but I can't find anything on Google and only one post about it on Reddit. I know it's in Trenton Michigan by the river

Imo a stiffer front might help with that rear wheel lifting and maybe some rear downforce imho armchair engineer
Not going fast enough to generate any downforce !
I'm surprised more people don't buy a plot of land and build a small racetrack like this to have fun, in just about anything, with your friends. It has me thinking... but the No Fun bureaucrats would probably shoot down the dream, because doing what you want on your own property is a big no no. And if you do it on the street, you get a court date. You just can't win unless you're a big time developer who can pay big taxes to the 'State'. Sigh...
Drop that CTR motor in a new S2K Honda! Keep it under 3000 lbs w 6MT.
Shame Honda makes 0 RWD based cars now.
