Yep, we can ski all year on Mt Hood except for November when they shut down the lifts for maintenance. Some Olympic ski teams train here during summer weeks.
You are walking in sand made from volcanic ash. If you were wondering where that came from. Timberline lodge is a great place to check out. My parents spent their wedding night there. It’s a beautiful place. I’ve only been there in winter. Lovely sitting in front of the fire and sipping on hot cocoa.
Lovely views. Hope all the other PCT hikers, etal, are safe this weekend from Hurricane Hilary 🌀 With luck, it would miss both the nobo and sobo timing.
We spent our 50th anniversary with the family at Mt. Hood. Just returned from 12 days in Oregon camping near Coos Bay and then a few days at Crater Lake. You three are killing it! Another " good day".
Thanks for sharing these absolutely amazing views over Mt Hood. I didn’t realize Timberline Lodge was so high up on the volcano. Great job with hiking up that steep slope on the sandy trail, uhhh… 👍😀
Yes, Timberline Lodge sits at roughly 6,000 feet elevation at the timberline where most of the trees end and the mountain continues up another 5,240 feet to the summit at a total of 11,240 feet. The lodge averages 21 feet of packed snow coverage a year that covers the second story windows, that's after receiving about 500 total inches of snow each season before it packs down or sublimates. Mt Hood is still a live volcano with steaming, sulfurous fumaroles and glaciers where people ski all year round.
I am so sad I didn't get to see you guys... I don't live far from Timberline Lodge and always come up there hike on the weekends... I am glad you guys enjoyed the great food at Timberline Lodge
Good gathering at the trail magic area. Timberline Lodge is very nice. Definitely a place to come back to and spend some time. You guys are experiencing some wonderful sights and lodging, all through the months. The mist on the lake was so nice.
Mt Hood is beautiful! Curious if you’ve met Kevin & Leah. They hiked the AT last year & hiking the PCT this year. Their videos are about the exact same thing. They showed the lodge today too. Kevin commented on the sand too. Not sure how much ahead of their videos they are.
Random question, would a 40L HMG Unbound pack for this PCT hike? Versus a 55L Hyper light Mountain Gear Pack, my tent is the Durston 1P for ref on gear. Thanks in advance for your advice. Have a great weekend everyone.
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL - Thanks for sharing!!
Beautiful picture of meadow and Mt. Hood in the background, It was framed beautifully with the greenery around that shot. I was in awe!!❤❤
Here we go 🚶♂️
Larry is great guy and a very good trail angel. He been a big help to my buddy Marmalade.
You all missed seeing little crater lake a 4 minute walk off trail when you get past timothy lake. Oh young heart he's a legend up here in Oregon.
Mount Hood is *my* mountain. ❤
Mine, too!❤
In 2019, Timberline Lodge had the best breakfast buffet for $19, and staff treated us thru hikers like celebrities. It was very welcoming!
We drove up to timberline lodge in june -they were still skiing
