  • Niccolò Paganini, born on October 27, 1782, in Genoa, Italy, was one of the most celebrated and enigmatic composers and violinists of the 19th century. His extraordinary talent and virtuosity on the violin earned him the nickname "The Devil's Violinist" due to the incredible rumors that surrounded his performances.
From a young age, Paganini demonstrated a natural affinity for music, particularly the violin. He received his initial violin training from his father, who recognized his son's exceptional abilities and arranged for him to study with renowned violinists of the time. His dedication and intense practice paid off, leading to his first public performance at the age of 11.
As he matured, Paganini's reputation as a violin prodigy spread throughout Europe. Audiences were astounded by his astonishing technical skills, which pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible on the instrument. He had an uncanny ability to execute breathtakingly difficult passages and create mesmerizing melodies, earning him the admiration of both music enthusiasts and fellow musicians.
However, Paganini's eccentricities and reclusive nature only fueled the myths surrounding his persona. Tales of him selling his soul to the devil for his virtuosity added to the aura of mystique that surrounded him. In reality, his unparalleled talents were the result of an unyielding dedication to practice and innovation.
Besides his exceptional skills as a performer, Paganini was also a prolific composer. He wrote numerous works for the violin, including concertos, solo pieces, and chamber music. His compositions often showcased the technical brilliance and expressive depth for which he was renowned.
Despite his fame and success, Paganini faced personal and financial challenges throughout his life. He was known for his extravagant lifestyle and gambling habits, which led to significant financial difficulties. However, his unwavering passion for music remained a constant in his life.
Paganini's health declined in his later years, and he battled various illnesses until his death on May 27, 1840, in Nice, France. Despite his passing, his legacy as one of the greatest violinists and composers of all time lives on. His contributions to violin technique and music composition continue to inspire generations of musicians, and his name remains synonymous with virtuosity and artistic brilliance.

The "Carnival of Venice"...The very first recording here. It is extremely playful with the piano. I love it. And, Niccolo has become my favorite all time musician! He is PURE genius! 24 Caprices? Come on now man! An absolute master of the violin! Rather than agreeing with rumors that "He sold his soul to the devil for his gift" I prefer to think that God simply blessed him with the gift. In order to amuse, entertain and amaze us for decades and decades to come!!!!

Recently became aware of Paganini and he has become one of my favorite composers. He dared to compose exceptional untried methods and did not let the staid old traditional pieces dominate the stage. Such an exceptional person. Wish I could have heard him play.
