    Welcome to my review of the Steeldive SD1979, a watch that is paying homage to the Squale 1521 50 Atmos. Its nice to see a different type of homage, so check out this video to see if after knowing what I share with you, this is something you may consider adding to the collection.
    I was kindly lent this watch by Steeldiveuk.com. Matthew at SteeldiveUK never asks me to say anything or present the watches in a specific way. I just review the watch and share my findings with you! Do check his store out though if you fancy a Steeldive watch and use the code watchmewithwatches5 at the checkout for a £5 discount off any Steeldive watch! A little promotional gift for you all.

    Please don't make excuses for mentioning your straps. There is nothing wrong with you selling straps and seeking business from viewers. I know a tiny percentage of grumpy viewers are "anti capitalism" but most people see nothing wrong with you running a business.

Your code is still valid so at £115 with free delivery its cheaper than the Aliexpress summer sale when taking tax into account, possibly the cheapest price in the world right now. Probably going to put it on a khaki sail cloth strap to accentuate the bead blast finish while not detracting from that lovely blue. Cheers!

    Have a black dial and bezel SD1979 on tropic band as per 1521 COSC. Wears comfortably. NH35 movement is accurate and reliable. Not many wear Squale so doesn't look as obvious as black dial black bezel SS1953 is for Rolex. Getting a Marine Nationale strap next to have orange pinstripe match min hand. Found the Engineer strap was bulky. Squale also fit mesh steel strap as well as tropic rubber strap that is less bulky as suits it. Not a bulky dive watch.

    Great watch, I have the first generation with the lume pip and flat sapphire crystal. It’s held up very well for over the year and a half I’ve had it. The only down side is the crown is a little difficult to manipulate...

  • @oktc68
    @oktc68 Před 2 lety

    Totally agree with you on the supplied bracelet, doesn't go with the watch at all. The Squale has 20mm lug width but I actually think that 22 looks better. I have a black dial version, thankfully the AR coating isn't too intrusive at all, I did have concerns about that but I don't do blue dials. Movement is very accurate, +1 sec 0.1ms beat error, can't ask for more. I think a ladder style strap is perfect for this watch but anything black on either blue or black dials, tan on the blue dial looks great. My bezel seems to have more resistance than yours but is still nice to use and better than my much more expensive Seikos. Love the minute hand. I think an aluminium bezel insert would look fantastic on this watch but the ceramic one is fine. Crown is a little fiddly, but you get used to it, it's only that first turn that's tricky (unscrewing it) Something of a bargain. Another good review, thanks Dan.

    I just bought one. I love it. It has amazing lume, and looks better than the Squale. The metal bracelette looks great from the top, though the polished sides don't match. I'm considering bead blasting the sides. It is nice and heavy, even more than my seiko flight master,

    That's a fun review I wouldn't have seen otherwise. I like the watch head, and I like super-engineer bracelets... but I agree with your observation regarding the mismatched finishes. In fact, if that were a sandblasted super engineer, it would enhance the entire watch. Where else are we going to get a sandblasted super engineer with a great logo on the clasp? Opportunity lost on that one...

    purchased watch. very nice, and goes along with review except for the bezel. mine had no springy back-play, but massive wobble. so much so it clicks. also, the top mark on mine does line up, but check your other markers. oddly many are off by as much as a half minute relative to the dial markers. otherwise, a nice beater watch. color is nice for summer.

    • @oktc68
      @oktc68 Před 2 lety

      No issues with alignment on any of my markers, dial and bezel insert are perfect. No wobble or backplay, it's a little stiffer than Dan's but certainly not tight. Clearly defined clicks, feels solid and wouldn't easily be knocked from where it's been set. I suppose for what they charge you will get some variations, still better than any of my 4 × the price Seikos.

    I got the black version because the ar makes the dial look like a deep blue sunburst from nearly every angle. The rubber strap isn't great, would have loved to get a tropic with it and agree about the fiddly crown. If I ever have to open it up I'm going to pop a 7s26 movement in it.

I agree, the engineer bracelet is not suitable for that watch. Still, at the price, you get a decent engineer bracelet (minus clasp) to use on another watch, and for a few dollars more get a decent tropic from another seller.
