I have been in a modern Orthodontic office for a while and I was never taught this way to reduce crowding. Our office did a PHI that involved a RPE usually for the UA and if the lower was crowded a Bi- helix and braces U/L 2-2 for 18 Months with U/L retainers after phI was done. I recently changed to a older office the dentist was extracting the UC's and I was so worried about the adult canines not erupting because they typically don't come in until age 10-12. Our patient is only 8yrs old, so I asked what the plan was but I didn't really get any explanation for what the process of serial extractions are. Thank you😊
Hey Karen! Truth be told, serial extractions are not routinely done in Phase I orthodontics today. The crowding would have to be very severe for me to even consider doing this for one of my patients. The most common reason for extracting UC's is to help redirect a mesially angulated/headed for impaction U3 ideally while it has at 1/2-2/3 root development.

So, that's at the age of 25, we will getting notation of 7 teeth ( missing 4 or 1st premolar).. is it right?
Yes, you would have just 7 teeth in each quadrant of the mouth (if that patient still had their third molars, that is). However, each tooth would retain its same number in whichever notation system you're using (so the 2nd premolars would still be 5's, and so on).

A few clarifying points for this video:
When the narrator refers to A's and B's and C's etc. etc. he's referring to the Palmer notation for baby teeth, which wasn't explained in the video. It's similar to the Palmer notation for permanent teeth, but starts with the letter "A" instead of the number "1" to denote the central incisors in each quadrant and then proceeds to the letter "E" for the terminal primary molar rather than the number "8" for the permanent terminal molar or wisdom tooth. The mnemonic "CD4" thus means the "C"s (baby canines) are extracted first, then the "D"s (baby first molars) and then finally the "4"s (permanent first premolars) are extracted, alleviating the crowding.
When commenting on the assessment of space in the mixed dentition stage of development, the narrator comments that future crowding is to be expected from noting the lack of spaces between the baby teeth. While this is true, the graphic that is used actually DOES show spacing between the baby teeth (black teeth). This could be confusing, so be aware of the graphical inaccuracy.
Finally, the narrator states that a "second phase" of orthodontic treatment is eliminated by utilizing serial extractions. Actually, the "first phase" of orthodontics, which is typically carried out during the mixed dentition stage (~8-10.5 years of age), is eliminated by serial extractions, leaving only a single phase of treatment, in the adolescent dentition (~12-14 years of age), once the serial extractions have been carried out. Bottom line: One time in braces WITH serial extractions versus the more typical two times in braces WITHOUT serial extractions, in patients with significant crowding.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post this comprehensive list of information. While briefly, I do mention the Palmer notation for deciduous teeth at around the 2:30 mark. Also in the video, at around the 7:40 mark, I do state the second phase of orthodontic treatment after the serial extractions is still required (not the first phase) for serial extraction cases.
listen dude, do you really think the narrator should have told us about baby teeth numbering system ?? .. what are you expecting ?? we are learning orthodontics i.e final year subjects and we dont know anything about numbering system ?? ...atleast dont point out pointless mistakes of him ..
