    I don’t like the new body styles in general. The side plates are getting smaller and smaller. Too much pipe hangs out from under and behind the side plates. However, the Yamaha still has a medium sized side plate and the body lines look good. Overall, I like it.

    • @mxrevival
      @mxrevival  Pƙed 2 lety +1

      Totally agree! The KTM rear number plate keeps getting higher and higher haha. I think Yamaha did a killer job on making this look extremely proportionally correct. I also sort of like how the rear fender has a little bit of a concave, making it slightly curved like the old days. Not super sharp and sticking straight out like most of the modern bikes. I like that too, just something I noticed about the Yamaha though.

    Excellent vid. Request. Doing this on my phone so it’s a little hard. Is there any way you can put a little (2) next to the parts that you need multiple of? That would make it easier on the Rocky Mountain parts guys. Thanks!!!

    • @mxrevival
      @mxrevival  Pƙed 2 lety

      Thank you, I appreciate you watching. You're in luck...
      When you're using Rocky Mountain, and you click on the part you need... It will automatically have the quantity for that piece already.
      You can add or subtract from there if you already have some of those pieces at home, otherwise it will automatically assume you need all of them.
      It is always the exact number of a particular fastener that is on the bike đŸ’Ș
      So for example if there are four rear fender captive hardware nuts, and you click on that part, it will show a number four because that's what you need.
      Simply click add the cart and you are already taken care of.

    • @mxrevival
      @mxrevival  Pƙed 2 lety +1

      For whatever it's worth, the Rev tank also holds about .25 gallons more fuel than the stock 02-21 tanks. The seat is ever so slightly lower feeling in the front area, to me, with the Rev tank. đŸ’Ș It's definitely at least half the cost of the 22 parts too! • @mxrevival
      @mxrevival  Pƙed 2 lety

      You're welcome, and thank you for watching!
      2006 should be the first year using triple clamps that work just fine with the most modern number plates from the four-stroke lineup.
      You may find that the number plate will not sit flat on the two mounting posts in the lower triple clamp casting. That's because the steering stem is longer on the yz, or two-stroke models. It will still work though, and you'll have the single mounting point, dead center for the upper mount.
      If you don't like the way the OEM number plate sits on the lower triple clamp, get yourself a Cycra Stadium plate instead. You won't have to worry about the lower mounting points as that number plate style zip ties to your fork legs. I think it looks a bit more Factory myself.
      Just be sure to put some decal material, or something to protect your forks underneath the stadium plate's front fork mounting, all the way around the fork tube. Because eventually the plastic number plate and zip ties will erode your forks kashima and wear into them.
      You will probably need to redrill your front fender.
      In a couple weeks, I will have the complete plastic kits for these bikes too!

      You're welcome, happy to do this video for everyone and I hope you give it a try.
      You can 100% reuse your exhaust. You only need to replace what is mentioned in the video on 2002 through 2021 Yamaha 2 strokes đŸ’Ș
      I also have these badass Yamaha body styles as well, in eight different color ways: www.mxrevival.com/product-page/2002-2020-revolution-kits-replacement-plastics-yz125-yz250-two-strokes
      They are a great option and a fraction of the cost of the 22 kit, although the 22 kit is amazing and cheap compared to buying a new bike.
      That's why I love the Yamaha 2 strokes, options for days!
      Reach out to me here if you have any questions and thanks for watching:

      Thanks dude. No problems at all. Perfect Factory fit and finish. I wonder why they would say that? Nothing has changed about the engine or exhaust bolt/mounting since 1999.
      I did a fair amount of part number searching, and even sometimes that doesn't really tell the story. For example, based off part numbers I also ordered a brand new air boot. When it arrived, it had the exact same part number as the old one. No difference.
      So the part numbers in the description below the video are all you really need. It's all the main pieces, and a few small Hardware bits that will be used in conjunction with some of the existing Hardware you already own.
      So it's everything you need, as affordably as you can get it basically. No waste.
      Anyways, do your thing! You won't have any problem with the pipes.

    What did you do to get rid of the God awful stock fork guards? Did you swap to the newer style fork?

    • @mxrevival
      @mxrevival  Pƙed 2 lety

      When I got this bike it had what appear to be wr450 forks on it, as far as I can tell. There's a piece of aluminum cast in one of the lower lugs that usually holds the speedometer bracket... Best fork swap is the 2006 or 2007 YZF front end. It hits the frame stops on steel frames without modification. Of course you get better looking fork guards more like these as well. All you need to do is press your two-stroke stem into the four-stroke clamps and you're good to go. Make sure to buy Yamaha clamps that will properly accompany the Yamaha forks. For example, two-stroke tubes have a 2 mm difference versus the four-stroke tubes, in the top clamp. Long story short, two stroke forks need two-stroke clamps and vice versa. You can go with 2008 or newer Yamaha forks if you want the newest style fork guard and bolt pattern, but then you will need to modify the frame a little bit where the triple clamps hit the stops. They don't quite line up and can cause your entire front end to over twist. If you don't want to fork swap, lightspeed carbon fiber used to make a fork guard that looked like these, but has the old bolt pattern that the 1996 through 2004 Yamahas had. It also deletes the long brake line. Have fun!

    @BrianMcNeill25 Pƙed 2 lety

    Supposedly the bike feel is better with thinner styling than before. Have you ridden to feel the difference? That may be one justification, other than it looks much better. If doing a pre-2002 model (I have a 1999), you would need mods to the frame for the subframe, and a donor airbox assy from a 2002+ model, as well as either adapter brackets or custom tank mount brackets. The radiator mounts for the shrouds are different too. I am curious if the 2002+ radiators will mount up correctly on the 1999 with the new plastics and tank?

    • @mxrevival
      @mxrevival  Pƙed 2 lety +1

      Hey Brian, I haven't ridden this bike yet. I don't think they are too much different in width and I believe the radiator shroud flare out is about the same, just due to the fact that the frame and radiators/ melting points are still in the exact same location as before the body swap.
      But the bike IS sleeker and there are less hang out points for your boots on the shrouds. Sometimes I would get my boot opening stuck on the bottom corner of my old YZ radiator shrouds. Overall it is just extremely streamlined and looks amazing in my opinion.
      For your 99, I haven't spoken about this much at all because it's not done, but I have prototyped it complete bracket kit for the 96 through 2001 Yamaha 2 strokes. It's in the rough draft stages but I've done it. My next steps of these are get the brackets sent in for 3D printing and make them look better during this process as they are all just loosely welded components at the moment.
      Once those parts come back for a test fit and they are confirmed to fit, and look better, I can send them back out to be created out of alloy.
      My intent is to get the 2021 body style on the 96 through 2001. The 2020 setup with technically fit as well, and I will definitely try it since I own all the parts, but I believe there will be a gap at the joint between the radiator shroud and the rear number plate.
      When the newer 21 Parts go on to a frame like yours, the nose of the fuel tank is slightly angled up compared to the 2002 through 2021 frames. I could see this causing somewhat of an unsightly gap between the radiator shroud and rear number plate since that is for the juncture is now.
      Definitely keep an eye out for it though! I wanted to do it for years and I am shocked that nobody has yet. đŸ€«

      Unfortunately no, not with the 2022 and newer tank and shrouds. If you look closely at the completed bike, you will see that the new style radiator shrouds tie into the new style rear number plates.
      You’ll also notice on your 19 that the plastics are completely separate from one another between the tank and airbox plastic.
      BUT, we do have a gas tank and shroud option only for your bike that will make it look incredible.
