My baby girl died after an unexpected premature birth in 1988 whilst on an overseas trip with my husband in the UK. My Aunty and Uncle took us to a pub called "The Plough at Ford" a couple of weeks after we lost the baby. I don't remember what we ate, or anything else about that place, but I do remember that this song was playing at the restaurant during our time there and looking out the window of the pub, seeing a vista of brilliant green grass. This song will be forever cemented in my heart as a reminder of the little girl we lost. It brings me to tears to this day...such is the power of music.

I lost my lovely wife Lin, this year, we met at the age of sixteen and held hands together for 56 wonderful years.
She loved this song as it reminded her of our early years and of our coming together.
We played it at Lin's farewell, as she had asked.
Now, when I listen to this beautiful song, it reminds me of my lifelong love and I think, I still feel her holding my hand.

When they sang 'When You Were Sweet Sixteen on Top Of The Pops', it was a time when UK musicians’ unions insisted acts appearing on Top Of The Pops had to re-record their hits for the show with BBC Musicians. So they did, and were duly given a reel of the recording to use on Top Of The Pops. But as Finbar told the Irish Sun in 2020,
“I’d actually brought over a recording of the original session with the RTE orchestra in Lombard Street Studios. I switched the tapes so it was the RTE lads playing you hear on Top Of The Pops not the BBC orchestra. That still makes me laugh.”
    I love him for that!

I have to thank my mum for introducing me to The Fureys so long ago and lit my passion for Irish music. Thanks mum even though you were 4th generation from your Irish Great Grandfather Timothy Buckley, that Irish blood filled your veins and hence to me. Thank you to the Fureys for giving me a passion about Ireland too that even my daughter who is 6th generation Irish felt she 'came home' when she arrived in Ireland a few years ago. May the Irish feeling and the feeling for Ireland continue to flow and never wash out in all our descendants veins forever. Even if we are dinky di Aussies.

I was at school with my sweetheart who became my wife. She was everything you could want for and an exquisite mother to my daughter. Fairytale beginnings. What more could you ask for……….. I screwed up big time . Lost everything and nearly lost my life. Now in my mid 70s, living alone and reflecting on my pathetic life. No contact with my daughter and ex wife. I beat myself up daily on what an absolute arsehole I’ve been. Serves me right.

You acknowledge your mistakes, thats huge as many don't....maybe reach out to your daughter just to let her know that you are thinking about her, even if she doesn't react she´ll know that you care. Good luck and don't waste a minute of this life. Don't keep reflecting on what could have been, start living again. It is never, ever too late. I wish you lots of luck and take care.

I remember my papa sining it to my nanny in1961 as they both babysat us , drunk, our mum and dad were out drinking too
But hey! We are all still here , they at least gave us ptsd😂

I wish my wife of 40 years would listen to this just once instead of her "soul" music, she hasnt a clue what alove song is,
This is pure romance and nostalgia ,who can not remember a day when they thought in their youth that this was love!
You then grow and meet your special person and a song like this just becomes something special. I remember being at
House parties as a child and my papa sang this to my nanny and there wasnt a dry eye in the the room. All sadly passed now,
But when this version was released in the 80 s It brought back all those memories of being a boy in the 60s ,
It will always be one of my all time favourite songs espescially this version, the banjo would make you weep alone.

Adam Dxvxii True Adam, but in the context i was writing it was only my personal feeling i was describing. There s no doubt that soul music has given us some of the best romantic songs of all time though surely some consideration must be given to the songs passed from generation to generation that still hold value today in the way that songs like this are still being sung daily .
Ps!. I like I particularly like , its because of me, right next door , by robert cray .
