This reminds me of my first love ❤️ he was sixteen and I was 14/15 …. I have loved him ever since and am now 80yrs! We eventually married after not seeing one another for about 50yrs! I believe we have someone in life who we are meant to be with … I also believe we can have other loves that have much importance in our lives! The special true love ❤️ is, sadly, not experienced by everyone.

Met The Fureys And Davey Arthur in Dublin outside The Gate Theatre in 1968 while on holiday. They were so friendly. I had only heard of Finbar and Eddie at the time. I was blown away when I heard them and have seen them and met them lots of times over the years and still My favourites. My Mother became a fan as soon as I. played a record of their's . She met them once and was over the moon. She passed away in 1994 and I still get choked up listening to them. They bring back so many lovely memories.
Lucky guy and your mother too. My mother(Mary Cunningham - Old Ulster {Donegal and Scotsl} descent) likes them too (now 87 living in her home town of Whitehaven, Cumberland [Cumbria] - predominantly Irish / Scots population). I met them in the early 80s in Kent of all places. I am now 68. (My family has had a long and violent journey from Denmark, Normandie [Calvados], England, Scotland, Ireland and recently [1866], back to England). History eh?

My Dad would sing this regularly to my momma. Loved sweet 16 since I was 12 or 13, still do at 75. Thanks Furheys for keeping it alive.

when my wife died, 17 years ago, i listened to sweet sixteen and when i grow to old to dream, over and over. when i could hear them without crying, i knew i was going to survive it.

Love the fureys since I was only 7 years of age when my dad had a cassette tape back in the day and then the tape became mine
Mother died last year and she loved the fureys all her life and them memories are priceless to me!!
The fureys got it right when they sang their first song proper artist’s to this very day!!!
Finbar furey and Luke Kelly etc etc etc put Ireland on the map and look at how many there is today totally amazing group and we all should be very proud of them being from Ireland 🇮🇪 there talent is something else!!
I just texted a friend a little while ago saying that I could spend a year in Ireland, just touring about and catching all these wonderfully talented singers and musicians live. Only it would take more than a year to visit each village pub and see the talent there.... Thanks for making the world brighter.

I saw the Fureys play at an old folk club in Colchester Essex.Its years ago maybe the 70s .I really enjoyed their playing .

My favourite band, absolutely love Finbar , Davey and the rest of the Furey brothers. Loved seeing them so many times in the Wexford Inn (many) years ago. Great , great memories. ❤❤Binge watching all their videos and taking a trip down memory lane.

I bought one of their albums many years ago. I was so impressed that I went to one of their live shows in London at the Dominion theatre. To say I was disappointed totally understates it - I was gutted. Playing live they were utter shite, like a bunch of tinkers in a karaoke bar. Hats off to the album production team, they certainly made a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.
I have seen the Furey’s at least a dozen times in live concerts, they are perfection.😀

I believe you have it the wrong way round the birds were named after the Canary Islands. According to the ancient historian Pliny the Elder Canariae Insulae is Latin meaning “The Island of Dogs” as it contained vast multitudes of dogs of very large size
