Thanks for joining us! We'd love to know what was your biggest take away from this video? Let us know below! I'm definitely working on drinking more water during the day!
Please check out my question below…. thank you
I can't find anything at all on severe constipation where you don't feel bloated, you aren't gassy, you don't have pain or nausea.
It's almost like a dead in your torso.
This has confirmed my suspicions. I drink enough for sure,so mine comes back to the myesthenia and stress. I've had huge issues with being stuck in fight or flight.
Yes stress can play such a big role with digestie health!
Great video! I know about the water and it’s something I need to incorporate in more in my life. I have learned that it helps with keeping your skin less creepy. The tips she had about squatting is something we just don’t think about but it makes sense, we are at 90 degree angle and the old school European had the whole in the ground. Tips on the picking a time in the morning to just train the body. And the P(s); Peaches,Pears and prunes. Electrolytes too, I am a person that enjoys good cocktails and I have approximately anywhere from 5 to 8 a week. Which is dehydrating. These tips will help!
Amazing! So glad you got some tips from this video! Electrolytes were definitely something new I learned about adding into my routine too! Keep up the great work!
I ran across your video for the first time today. Norah, dietitian, was your guest…topic:
constipation. She had some very interesting tips. Thank you!
You are welcome! Norah has some great tips! We also have a number of other videos on our channel about digestive health.
Hello there! Thank you so much for this helpful video that also made me feel less alone with this. I was wondering, I have gotten my gallbladder removed around 6 years ago and am wondering if that has an impact and what I can do to mitigate that all. Thank you so very much again 🦋💛
Thank you for sharing this super important knowledge! I wish i learned this a long time ago. ❤
So happy you enjoyed this video! I love all of the tips Norah shared so helpful!
Thank you for this video! Thank you for sharing your knowledge😊 the retraining was a new idea for me. I’m definitely going to do that. Also, I’ve gotten out of the routine living in a new place. Love your videos! They will become part of my routine also.
So glad you found this video helpful! Keep up the great work 💜
@@DrMelissaOleson I need to do something different, I deal with constipation often, it's been a week now
Thank you for this super helpful information. Norah is so easy to listen to and understand. 😊
You are welcome! So glad you found this helpful! Norah is amazing 💜
This is absolutely interesting for me because I suffer of all these desorders :)) and I'm learning , now , at my age , practicing yoga, how to handle with all my body's issues:)).. I'm an absolute beginner . Thank you !
You are welcome. Can’t wait to see how it works for you in practice!
I will never forget the garden bathroom in Versailles was literally a hole in the ground. I was so taken aback lol.
Most don't know it takes 24hrs or more to digest 1 meal, an effect of sugars, also fruit🍉🥝🥭 should be eating like 20-30 min before or after other foods, cause it digest differently, an drinks 🥛🍹🧃 30-45min after eating ,cause it's washes away enzymes you need to digest your food..you only need 1 or 2cups of water🥤 for every meal you digest, ...most issues are from over eating, thats why fasting is on the rise...
Excellent! So many great suggestions
So glad you found these tips helpful!
Great video. Great reminders and new tips
Amazing so glad you find these valuable !!! :)
Definitely the squatting. I've heard this talked about before, and it's time to start! Also very curious if you've done any discussions around menopause and constipation. I'm subscribed now, and will definitely see if you do.
Welcome to the channel! So glad you enjoyed this video! And absolutely love that topic! I haven't done a video on constipation and menopause, but will most definitely add it to our filming list! We do have a yoga flow for menopause you might enjoy 💗
I have IBS with constipation! This causes flare ups where my bowels just stop working so I get constipated. I also have Pelvic Organ Prolapse and my bladder and uterus have dropped and I think they press on my rectum which also may have dropped a little. I'm 65 nearly. I use the MMMMMOOOOOO method to poop and this helps me and I think anyone can benefit using this method.
It's all about relaxing the pelvic floor and learning to manage intra-abdominal pressure. The mmooo method is another way to help relax the pelvic floor to help with going to the bathroom. Keep up the fabulous work 💕
Can you tell me how we get rid from chronic constipation
Thank you so much for sharing this information.
Happy to help !!
My biggest take is what you said that there must be enough input or food to have output or ending constipation. Thank you for your infos.
You are welcome! Glad you enjoyed!
Uncomfortable topic, lol--thanks for tackling it. MUST emphasize medications, b/c for some reason docs/surgeons will prescribe opiates after surgery but not mention you need some prune juice, stool softener etc. After surgery you might need antibiotics, destroying your microbiome, so constipation can lead to stuff like SIBO and now you are really up shits creek, b/c fiber blows you up, but you need it to get things moving--catch 22. Post surgery you might be stressed, which you mention, but you might also be laid up in bed, so you can't walk every day, which is vital
Yes medications can also play a role as well and I see this with my clients. There are still lots of things that can help hydration, breathing, bathroom positioning, and more. Keep up the good work!
Iam chronic pain patient and you need alot more than stool softeners and prunes for this problem. I have to use prescription mds for problem. These other over the counters are useless for me
I respect your experience here. I have had success with betaine -hcl to increase stomach acid. Also, basically any amount of exercise, even walking, helps digestion. I mean if your body is undamaged and can run a couple miles, I dare your GI tract to fail at peristalsis with all of that mechanical jostling and helpful motion. Best of luck to you kathleen @@kathleengivant-taylor2277
I loved the simple tip of using rolls of toilet paper to prop up your feet when using the toilet - an Easy solution. The number one change I will make (besides propping feet) is to drink 1/2 my weight in ounces of water per day. So I’ll aim for 70 oz/day. That should be doable. And electrolytes will be a bonus. Thanks. This is packed full of tips I plan to slowly add to my routines to help move things along. I sincerely thank you both.
Yay! So glad it was helpful! This kind of feedback makes our day!
I have diverticulosis and can get external hemrroids. I already know what to do and tips for that. I have upped my fiber intake. And have had the stool, squat and go for along time now.
I like to add some electrolyte packets sometimes. Otherwise I try to drink at least 64 oz a day. It can be hard and a lot because I have over active bladder. So I have to find a happy medium and I think I drink too much or even too little and having to go a lot. But I do the pelvic floor exercises and stretches already. Those can help and so does pumpkin seed oil supplement.
I did just get psyllium capsules and greens powder to help if I don’t have enough good for fiber source cuz I have to get groceries. 😅
And I’ve been taking probiotics for years so I still take those continuously.
I just got a kind that does have a fiber blend so that helps being a prebiotic-which is fiber. 😃
Yup, I had my uterus removed in my late 20s. First it started with a bladder prolapse repair and then in the last 10 years I have had to have multiple pelvic floor prolapse repair surgeries. I have told my surgeon about how hard it is for me to go especially before the repair. They sent me home with some stool softeners but through all of this, no one has ever talked to me about ways I can position myself or what I can do to relieve some of the pressure off my pelvic floor. I jsut had my last repair earlier this year and now I am started to feel a reoccurrence 😭 I have been referred to a pelvic floor physical therapist but I jsut do not have the time to be able to go there 3 times a week when the closest one to me is over an hour away.
I I find it interesting that other places in the world seem to figure out the toilets need to be lower to the ground or they have the foot stools built in. Why not in the US? Is this a vanity thing?
My biggest issue is struggling with the shy bowel, I can’t even go in my own home when others are around!!! This has gotten way worse since Covid and my partner works only from home. I actually have better luck finding a public restroom that is just a single person bathroom than trying to go at home.. ughh I have tried so many different techniques and therapy to work on this but I just came seem to shake it. It’s so frustrating

@@cherie2174 thank you, I have heard this before not only got this reason but for other great health benefits too. I will give it a try!!
All really helpful, I have been struggling with this for years. I do all of these things you suggest and in the main I can have a bowel movements most days. I also give myself an abdominal massage after having a hot drink in the morning. However sometimes I just have constipation for a few days for no reason that I can think of 🇬🇧😳
Glad you enjoyed this video! Keep up the great work!
SIBo and mold can cause that. I have both. Hey texted for mold and SIBo

Very informative! I do suffer from a lot of these issues. I have my stool already but will try the first thing in the morning to see if I can get that to work
Yay, so glad you found it valuable!
Thank you for the information it helps
So happy to hear that! Thanks for your kind words and feedback.
I have regular medication on colostrol and uric acid in low dosage....could this cause the constipation....
If yes what do I do
I’m so sick of bloating .. and my issues is not empty and I feel like this my entire day or week it makes me so angry.. its all about poop !! I try to exercise too .. I have sit down for my job all day working on standing and I had hysterectomy I feel like it’s never been the same . I’m happy when my motility is better and even diarrhea I feel better when I’m empty . I get it , it’s so upsetting.
Hello :) Thank you for this video! Can you tell me what kind of electrolytes y’all recommend?
You are welcome! Glad you enjoyed! I use LMNT electrolytes 💕
@@DrMelissaOleson thank you so much :)
I wanna ask you colonoscopy is the best way to know what is the reason of constipation??? Specially chronic constipation
They should start teaching this to kids in youngest grades incl post lunch bathroom trips. Maybe add toilet stools at least classrooms to demo. Also how to improvise in public. How many toddlers have their wee legs hanging off adult toilets trying to 💩?? We give our babies ILU massage but stop when toddler. Make it a fun game to learn how and why. I guess a lot less laxatives etc would be sold? 😊 We also need to teach financial literacy but that’s a diff soap box. 😉 PS you both look young and glowing!

I have hypothyroidism. I'm going to try the suggestion to add in fruits such as peaches/pears/prunes. My A1C # has been in the pre-diabetic range, so I haven't been eating much fruit.

Hi,
I am getting bloating and constipation when eating too much high fiber foods and some dairy products. Also, avoiding eating carbs in my diet like only plants and proteins. I don't know how to relieve constipation and bloating on the high fiber diet? Any recommendation is appreciated.

It seem like she just skimmed over the question about taking MiraLAX for constipation and if that is OK. That’s what I use and I would’ve loved to known a straight answer if that’s good to use maybe once a week?
With constipation it's getting to the root cause of what's going on and miralax is not allowing to get to the root cause. Norah discusses several options to help get to the root cause like bathroom habits, electrolytes, working on motility and gut health and more.
Being patient to wait for 30 to 40 mins while using the stool to prop my legs. I tend to feel like if it does not happen in 10mins then it’s a waste of time. Thank you for the tips and I will drink more water as well.
You are welcome! Yes hydration can make such a difference (I've been working on this one ☺)

Magnesium Chlorid and potassium chloride
Am from Jamaica am on holiday in the USA am suffering real bad back home my toilet seat is low but i am using a high one so i feel so uncomfortable your vido was helpful
So happy this one was helpful for you. Keep up your awesome work.
I've been dealing with constipaton since i was a baby and as a kid i would ALWAYS ignore and hold back the urge to go because it was so painful. Does anyone have experience with that and how to deal with the consqeuences of that? :")
Lots of helpful tips. My favorite was squatting on the toilet first thing in the morning. Does bending over give you the same helpful angle as raising your knees?
So happy you found this helpful! They are different. The bringing the knees up helps to relax your pelvic floor and that is key!
One thing about me is I do NOT care where I am, if I have to go oh I'm going to go 😂
Amazing! 👍💜
May you be stronger in your faith, blessed beyond measure in spirit and recieve all your needs in Jesus name. 🙏 🙏

I have a lot of gas all the time pass small amounts of stool is this a sign of constipation?
Yes it could be!
what about patients who are prone to fecal loading? I struggle so bad with this.. and really been trying everything to get my bowels to move regularly
From birth to puberty, I was constipated at least once a month
I was born with a fistula..in my rectum
My aunts tried with givkng me prune juice..if it didn't work, it was suppositories or enemas 😖
Menses would always loosen up bowels

Will electrolytes help constipation after a surgery?
My clients find them helpful after surgery and staying hydrated also can help.
Should I be aware of the smell of my poop?
The smell of your stool can be informative and tell you different things about your body.
I will keep that in mind and I poop at different times mainly a morning pooper .. thank you for your help..@@DrMelissaOleson
is it possible to train the bowels at 50yo?
Yes absolutely working on bowel retraining at any age is helpful 💜

Why does PN cause constipation along with the hip painon my left hip 😔
Left hip is the end of the colon… so constipation and left hip pain is so so common to happen together!!
