  • World Premiere, Fabian Buhl takes off from the summit of Cerro Torre after climbing it, one of the least accessible summit in the world, in Patagonia.
The ascent is already a huge achievement, but taking off from the summit is even more impressive. Patagonia is known for its frequent extreme wind conditions, and the take off area is super small with no room for hesitation.
Fabian, an AirDesign team pilot, started paragliding two years ago, and was flying with his SuSi 16 (2.02kg) for this once-in-a-lifetime flight.
On behalf of the whole AirDesign team we would like to congrat and warmly thank Fabian for this huge achievement !

🎙️ Mathieu Maynadier's comments, experienced alpinist, AirDesign pilot and a friend of Fabi:
"Awesome achievement from Fabi who managed to find the perfect weather window with no wind, pretty seldom specially this year. Very audacious as they were first to ascend the Ragni route. It's a great effort with tricky route reading in the summital parts. Opening Cerro Torre's routes is a real challenge as it requires to identify the route and do a serious cleaning work. Summiting it with a paraglider in the back, and then flying down, hats off Fabi!"

Hey-„First“ is not true! In the 90s the german brothers Michael and Matthias Pinn did. this. Sorry guys 🤷‍♂️.

...Nope! "Fabian Buhl scored one of the finest shots left to be made in Patagonia. Climb the Cerro Torre and descend by air, paragliding. An ultra-clean and purist combo, which was the envy of many specialists, and no doubt, a futuristic way of marrying high-level climbing and descending. In this case, Cerro Torre is undoubtedly the most difficult peak in Patagonia. In 1988, the Fitz Roy was achieved in this way by visionaries: Matthias and Michael Pinn climbed the Supercorridor before setting off in a paraglider from the summit. But the Cerro Torre is another story, level climbs. It has also been the scene of paragliding flights, twice already, but with drop-off at the summit of Cerro Torre by helicopter.
Fabian Buhl therefore signs the first by fair means with ascent and flight from the summit." alpinemag.fr/fabian-buhl-vole-en-parapente-du-cerro-torre/

Sorry - that is true. They used the helicopter for the flight but they climbed the torre befor. Only the weather killed their dream to do this by fair means. And to do this heli flight was only possible on the last day supported by army. The Pinn brothers also fly from Aconcagua and Denali. Both by fair means. Sadly Michael Pinn passed away by f…..g cancer. R.I.P
