Nanlux, please put the controls on the ballast. Thank you!!!

Necessary accessory, but wild oversight not selling the cables separately or weatherproofing it. I agree Andrew, a hard sell without those two things.

I had to shoot with a few nanlux 1200bs on a tv show recently. Our crmx box failed and all our lights became unreachable. We couldn't lower the heads for adjustments. No controls on the ballasts... huge deal breaker for me

Thanks for bringing this option to our attention so thoroughly! As an owner and user of these lights do you feel you made the right choice for your 1200+ watt units? Do you purchase the attachments from their proprietary mount line or is there a Bowens adapter option you use?

Softboxes I go DoP choice rabbit rounders (so fast to set up) I have two of the new small Nanlux fresnel for my 1200s and 900s and 3 piece reflector kits for all of them. So far they have been 100% reliable but time will tell.
      I have...
      2 X 900c
      5 X 1200B
      2 X 2400B

Go with the propriety mount reflectors - bowens S mount is a very generic thing designed for flash heads which are completely different to the flat LED cobs found on most LED lights - the Nanlux ones are engineered to work with their lights

    Hi Andrew,
One question not related to this video.
Do you got any experience with GVM gear?
Never seen your review on their gear.
Is it just not good enough to bother?

      I haven't seen it

I think this GVM announcement of a 1200 RGBW cob with crmx and weatherproofing is already on our mind since NAB - czcams.com/video/Etmq1-rE35s/video.htmlsi=iKwE7hnpCIwi_g7O

I have some GMV lights (GMV-BDP-PRO-25R) and I feel like there are a few issues that make it hard to recommend for most pro work, I have a pretty niche use case where I am doing small stop motion animation projects and need lights I can control with wired DMX from my animation package, and they work well for that.
The big issue I have is it does not seem like there is any way to update the firmware on the lights, which could fix my other issues with them. The lights I have, have 2 DMX over RJ45, and then just power and battery connections. They work well for my use case, except (and this is a really big issue) there is no DMX studio mode, so if you cut power by unplugging the lights and restore power later they do not turn back on, I have to physically turn on the units via the back of the lights. I think in most pro settings that would be unacceptable, but in my use case I can work with it.
I feel like many of there lights might fall into a stop gap between buying really cheap lights and professional gear. But often at full price they are not worth it as you could get a better brand for very little extra, the lights do however seem to always go on sale so if you need the features they offer and can work around the short comings it might be an acceptable trade off depending on the situation and use case.

@@RobotsWithKnivesCartoons Yeah. I think that might be a case, cause there are tons of GVM reviews but done only by YT guys (not gaffers). So looks like GVM haven't offered their gear to any of the pros so far.
Some of the reviews are quite professional (all the measurements that Andrew does).
Regarding their prices I'd say they are quite competitive. Their 650W Bicolor (Aputure 600X wannabe) is 2.5-3x cheaper then pro models like said 600X. And it has studio mode :D.

@@JoATTech I feel like they have a meaningful spot in the prosumer range, might be good for lower budget projects so long as the operator understands the limitations.

Nice, but $396? Just put the controls on the ballast next time FFS. Milking us dry Nanlux. I rarely get my 650c and Ev1200 out as my 500s are just so much easier to control.

Are you saying that a Nanlite forza 500 gives you what a Nanlux 650c Dyno panel and an Evoke 1200 do ? - they are radically different lights your comparing
