- In this video, we take on a quest to save Prince Dargon on behalf of Luke @ReynoldsReviews His Sectaurs DragonFlyer was damaged badly in battle leaving Prince Dargon in the hands of his arch-rival Spidrax.
Can we restore DragonFlyer? The quest is not as easy as it seems.

As always you have done an exceptional job.
The fact you communicated the mishap immediately and offered to replace it is a measure of the kinda guy you are.
However, I was 100% happy to replace the wing myself, when these items go for repair, I accept completely that there’s a risk element that comes with it which I fully accept, so even though I was happy to source my own wing, the fact you still replaced it again only compounds just how you much of a legend you are.
I couldn’t be happier with Dragon flyer, and you’ll be pleased to know thanks to you, he saved prince Dargon on his way back to me and they are now both safe n sound in the Reynolds base, thank you again my friend, looking forward to buying you a well earned beer in a few weeks 🙏🏻🙏🏻👊👊👊
Ah thank you buddy!! 👍 When repairing a toy for someone else, I always have a different approach compared to repairing one of my own. With my own, I can take risks and explore new approaches. Sometimes there are risks with other people's toys too, so my policy is if I break something, I'll replace it. I'm always honoured and flattered when asked but appreciate they may have history or sentimental attachment. So glad you're happy with the result, it's a great toy and under-appreciated. Good to hear the quest was completed successfully 😎 Yeah, can't wait for a beer!! 🤘

Snapping of the wing mounts while taking things apart seems like a delicate job.. I always keep my breath while pulling press fitted parts apart (like wheels etc). A tricky wing to restore! My theory is that is was produced by a vacuumizing process. That would mean the material could become soft again by warming it up at some point. A pitty it cracked, maybe the crack can be glued with some plastic weld or CA glue.. Another great restoration video, Thanks!
Thanks!! 🤘 Funny you mention those wing mounts - off camera there was a fair amount of pre-loosening and concern as they were not budging! Good theory on the vacuform approach and you're right, with enough heat, the wings did soften and reform quite easily. I also did this off camera as by that time the wing had split and had nothing to lose. It's a shame it wasn't recorded as you could see the plastic change with enough heat - it was almost like an off/on switch. Pretty sure the wing could be glued but with visible glue/weld marks. I love the sectaurs, one of the most underrated toy lines of the 80's. The wings are so fragile though. There needs to be repro wings made to get all the wingless flyers back up in the air again.
Definitely underrated! The mix of toy and puppet is a genius idea and the figures are fantastic. The more I see and mess with those wings, the more I think they can be recreated. However, I'm not sure how they produced that green/purple shimmer on them - that's such a delicate effect. 👍
@@VintageToyRush I picked up some iridescent film for covering headlights, was thinking of putting it over a plastic sheet and vaccuforming the sheets over molds of the wings. I'm nervous to try it though. Not sure why lol
@@BrynSmith76 Ah very interesting. there's nothing to lose and worth experimenting with. If it fails, well we know that's not the approach - but vacuforming seems like a good approach 👍

Maybe you can use some resin glue to fix that wing tear i believe it cures clear

Another way to try and straighten the wing could have been to fill a hot water bottle with boiling water, lay it on top of the wing on a flat surface, and let it completely cool before removing it.
Interesting approach, that could work! I decided against just putting directly into hot water as those wings are very delicate 👍
Excellent fix Dave! A shame about the wing break, but still you gained some useful information from the experience. I hope you don’t have too much trouble replacing it! Great video mate!!

Great job Dave! The wing fix w/ the blow-dryer was a great idea. Do you think a small amount of clear UV resin might fix that broken one?

Great vid Dave! Do you think there's anything you could do to repair that torn wing? I'm sure that's a common issue. I remember browsing at this line in the toy shop as a kid and loving the look of them and I have seen a few of these creatures for sale around the place. I must get a few for the display!
Thanks Jules!! 🤘 Well, several have suggested that careful glue or weld or possibly even UV resin may fix the tear but I suspect the tear will always be visible. They are great toys, very much underrated, definitely worth having a few for display 👍
Shame about the wing, but why didnt you use boiling water, far less risky and probably would have had it straight in minutes
Good question! Boiling water can be brutal to plastic and I didn't want to risk dulling or ruining that sheen. If it was my own wing I'd probably be less cautious. Turns out though, that heat is perfect for these wings, I just didn't use enough at one point 👍
