OTHER DSA VIDEO: czcams.com/video/J5-DrDtp3oE/video.html
Thank you, incredibly helpful information. Hope things are going well with your studies.
DSA is a life saver - definitely one of the few upsides of disability 😂
honestly! small silver lining!
Hey Saskia. Amazing video, I am awaiting my needs assessment for mental health diagnosis and physical disability. This video is really helpful and has helped reassure me. Hope your studies are going well! x
Hi how was your needs assessment? If you don't mind me asking as I have one upcoming and was wondering if you could give any general advice
Great video thanks
Very helpful video thank you very much saskia😁
Glad it was helpful!
Very informative. well done!
Glad it was helpful!
Hey saskia was wondering what you said to get the easydesk and ergonomic chair
hi i think it was about having no motivation to get out of bed relating to depression!
Hello Saskia , is it just equipments that they offer ? Or does SFE pay student with learning difficulties extra allowance for they needs ?
so they just pay for equipment and services, so like taxi reimbursments etc, you get no cash in cand.
Can I ask if you have to get the laptop from the supplier they told you to? Because I’m hoping to upgrade my laptop and willing to pay more for it, but I’m not sure if they suppliers have the model I wanted. Thank you for answering in advance!
I’m not entirely sure! It would be worth asking the supplier what options they have for upgrades and if they don’t have the one you want, maybe get back to the DSA team and ask what to do next
@@saskiahdlt Ok! Thank you☺️
I have a question. You said you bulk ordered ink, but could you not buy anything else with that allowance or could you only buy ink?
i could buy ink and paper but that's it!
Hi, do you know the process to upgrade from the standard laptop to a higher spec?
I would assume you email your supplier and ask as each supplier probably has a different process!
Unless your study requires a higher spec laptop OR your current laptop is not going to do the job (they know if it will or not) you won’t get it.
You’ll only get what you need. If your laptop isn’t working as it should they’ll test it then decide.
Usually you’ll get a new laptop BUT only what you need.
This ladies Lenovo is great! Don’t let the ‘brand’, put you off, if that’s what it is (I only say this because I know too many who try to get upgrades ‘just because’. Please don’t take that personally, that is not my intention.
My intention is just to let you know that you’ll get a suitable laptop if you don’t have one, or if yours doesn’t work well or won’t last the duration of your course.
Every assessor is different, every DSA department is different county to county. Do contact your assessor if you fell you need anything not listed. For example I had already personally bought an item (a smart pen -(£180 + special booklets to write on) then I lost it, I contacted my assessor and as they would have paid for it anyway they paid for another and they gave me an allowance for the booklets too (just like the printer ink and paper allowance).
I now much prefer speech to text and would not recommend the pen (soooo expensive! And more difficult than speech to text).
I do find my ocr text reader very helpful though (I bought myself but it is available via DSA. The one I had from them wasn’t good. So I personally bought a different one - had I known, I could have requested the one I bought instead of the one they supplied.
I hope this is of some help. And good luck! X
Hi did you get any money as well as all that stuff you listed ?
nope DSA doesn't provide money!
hello do you know if there can can cover the cost of 1on1 support in class for example a reader or cost of transport for me to get to college for HND thank you 🙂
I think they can do a reader/note taker and they do cost of transport definitely!
This allowance is admissible to International Disabled students at UK or not ?
no i don't think so! but worth checking if your university itself does something similar!
