Bentley Continental GT vs Aston Martin DB11 AMR | Two great GT cars reviewed | Autocar

  • The Bentley Continental GT is absolutely one of Autocar's favourite big GT cars. It's comfortable, elegant, fast, refined, luxurious and enjoyable.
    But, then, the Aston Martin DB11 AMR is another of our favourite GT cars. It's comfortable, elegant, fast ... well, you get the idea.
    Subscribe now: smarturl.it/aut...
    So we brought the two together, because their vital statistics are incredibly closely matched. These 2+2 GT cars each have 12 cylinder engines, making more than 600bhp, they have very similar performance numbers and they're quite similarly priced, at over £160,000 here in the UK.
    But which will our testers, Matt Prior and Mauro Calo, prefer? The extremely luxurious Bentley, or the slightly more sporting Aston Martin?

      I feel like Aston Martin lacks a bit of presence as they’re quite small but as sporty looking as other smaller cars like a Porsche, Lambo, Ferrari etc. But the Bentley is Big and Bulky which gives it a powerful, dominating presence. The Aston Martin DBS superleggera would’ve been the better competitor in this video, that’s a car with real presence & very eye-catching too

      Aston Martin's are nice, but they are overly expensive for what you get. Exterior, mostly beautiful, but interior is terribly boring, outdated and bad quality.
      Why can't rich people just buy from other car manufacturers until Aston Martin decides to stop being greedy and fix their 2005 interiors.

      If you think about typical car development cycles, manufacturers time their facelifts to extend a generation's life. I have a theory that Aston have intentionally held back a lovely new interior because they are going to facelift their cars and release it alongside that, meaning a lot of Aston owners will be trading their current ugly interiors in for fresh, modern ones.
      At least I hope so anyway, as it's the only reason I can find as to justify that decade-old interior.

    Aston Martin should have kept the instrument clusters from the DB9 generation. It was brushed stainless steel, aluminium and glassy details everywhere, just like a luxury watch, it looked crafted. Now every single car has a stupid lcd, led, tft whatever ipad on the console. Everything from VW Polos, A-Classes, Bimmers, the new Supra... Designers should take a look on how Singer design makes their clocks. That's a clock, not these fuckin ipads. And it also flips me off that Mercedes bought Aston and they keep degrading their cars in order to ensure they won't get in the way of the Merc's sales numbers... Aston Martin should be on better hands, it is too much of a treasure to be treated like that... just throw whatever outdated party piece they have on our dusty shelves right? Motherf$%rs.

    Bentley for me. If I wanted a luxurious GT capable of any weather, it's the Bentley.
    If I want an exciting GT that's dynamic, and fun. I'd get a AMG GTS, or a Ferrari 812, or even the DB11. The AMR version, I see very little up side. That kind of power with that kind of turbo engine, will be mundane at road speeds anyways. The Bentley is REALLY nice.

    Couple of things spring to mind:
    Surely the DBS Superleggera is more comparable to the Bentley than the AMR?
    Secondly - why compare two cars as Grand Tourers and then make the choice for the less comfortable, lower tech, shorter range, less practical, less luxurious car - because it will (may) be better on the track at the end?
    It seems a little contrived.

    • @306maxievo2
      @306maxievo2 Před 5 lety +1

      Dave F exactly. I’ve been in both and the Aston feels bargain basement in comparison. Let’s be honest, you’re never going to do a trackday in either, in which case the Bentley is the better bet. If you’re going to do a trackday then have a proper supercar or sports car.

    • @F1ll1nTh3Blanks
      @F1ll1nTh3Blanks Před 4 lety +1

      Why.. They're both GTs. The DBS Sl is a closer competitor to the 812SF or the CTC4L.
      DB11 AMR is more closer to the Conti GTS but that's not out yet. The standard DB11 competes with the Conti.
      The Conti SS would be a better fit for the DBS Sl but it doesn't exist yet either. 🤷

    So you pick a sport car over a GT luxury car, that's fine, but when the video is about " everything is not as good, if not the dynamics " and at the end you pick the Aston because you want to drive it sideway, well that is not really what you are suppose to look in this kind of car, you can prefer the Aston, for sure, but a customer with the wallet and driving capabilities adapted, is not going to think like this ... If you do not need the unique design, the luxury, the comfort, the quality, you just go and buy a Vantage, that's my point, the list of excuses has no place there ...

    If I didn’t like bond, I’d go for the Bentley all the way. But there is something super attractive about Aston Martin being associated with bond that I can’t get over with.

    Good video. If I were the producer (Im not) I would ask the reviewers not to be dressed in a t-shirt, distressed jeans to review luxury GTs...

    Easy choice, I’d take the Bentley GT convertible!

    Bentley is more expensively inside & even in the front head light with a diamond shape inside. Inside the aston you can see some plastics around the infotainment screen & the hand blinker & air vents which is a shame. When you get inside to the bentley you can smell the aristocratic of bentley. the gearbox in the Bentley is dual clutch "ZF" like in Porsche. Its quicker & expensive. They didn't do any discount for themself in any little thing. Its the only 100% EXCLUSIVE GT car in the world. that's the way you should look on this master pics.

    Those ridiculous luminous yellow stripes inside the Aston ruin any chances the vehicle had of being 'classy'. WTF were they thinking?

      @TheBS80 Před 3 lety

      That's Astons problem - they neither don't know what they are nor where they want to be in future. Their head says "We are a Ferrari competitor", but their cars are - for me - question marks on wheels, with quite ugly interior.

    In all the Continental reviews, you can see that chrome pinstripe on the fascia isn't matching the part with the rotating display two backsides (plain and gauges). I didn't choose this option because I've seen one review before and I just don't like a chrome stripe on the wood veneer. That mismatch would drive me insane. It's one thing when the wood pattern doesn't match for 100%, because it's just impossible when there are two wooden backsides, but that gap in he chrome stripe...

    The Bentley is a far more refined and better quality sports car experience. The difference between Bentley and Aston Martin is simply this - Bentley (Caviar) - Astin Martin (Tuna Fish). The New Bentley Continental GT was created with Porsche sports heritage hence the double coupling transmission. A more luxurious and refined Porsche Panamara both exquisite sport machines.

    The dude with hair interrupts the bald dude quite a few times throughout the video, i think he should let other hosts speak their piece too. He needs to be bit slow to match the rhythm of the video
