  • This felt heartbreakingly fresh, and raw. Before this journey, the legacy of the Khmer Rouge was unknown to us. We were shocked to realize how little we had been taught about this brutal Cambodian regime and its genocide of over 2 million souls, which took place just before our own lifetimes. Walking through still-bloodstained detention centers and stepping over half-buried bones and teeth in Phnom Penh’s “killing fields” left an incredible emotional toll-and a horrific realization that just 30 years after the Holocaust, history had already repeated itself on a near-equally massive scale.
