- The Word of God places a premium on telling the truth, telling us to confirm our most serious promises with oaths before the Lord. Jesus’ teaching on oaths in Matthew 5:33-37, therefore, is not forbidding all oaths but rather calling us to keep our word and avoid all frivolous vows. In this message, Dr. Steven Lawson focuses on this passage, stressing the call on Christians to be truthtellers in all of life.

. Christ was not forbidding oaths, he was warning against not keeping oaths. You swore an oath when you got married, You swear an oath if you testify in court. Though they are now meanngless since they no longer call upon God to witness they are telling the truth. You swear an oath any time you sign any kind of contract. Every person elected to or appointed ot political office in the United States of America swears an oath to uphold the US Constitution which they violate almost immediately. Every time my senator or represenative votes to spend taxpayer money in ways not authorized by the Consitution the violate it. Every time a court justice legislates from the bench the violate it.
Oaths are forbidden. The corrupt courts and churches should not surprise you. Christians know we're not to swear oaths and especially not over a bible. An oath is different to a legal contract. No one makes any oath with a contract unless you're in a secret society or cult
