  • In this series i'm working on perfecting the homestudio and taking it to the next level. And a big part of that are the acoustics, but we can't know what steps to take if we're unsure of the problems, so the first thing we need to do is measure!
    The measurement mic i've used in this video:

    Regarding the high end changing:
    when you measured you were sitting close to the mic, your proximity might change the response of you mic and your breath too.
    I was once calibrating my speakers, left and right individually with a sine wave and had a VU meter monitoring an Omni mic in the sweet spot.
    I reached for the volume on my monitor controller and noticed the level of the VU changing due to my close proximity to the mic, even tho the mic was in between me and the speaker.
    I moved around a bit and the VU dipped and raised 1-3 dB in tandem with my movement.

      Hmm im pretty sure thats not it. I measured while sitting down in the video, yes, but before that also while standing 2 meters away. Also in the previous setup the monitors did exactly the same. It happens when both monitors are on, so i’m assuming it is a phase issue somewhere i gotta figure out.

    Lekker bezig bro! and what about trying an arc studio? they fixed a lot of issues last week on the low end and the extra conversion is still not bothering me at all.

      I’m not putting an extra 2 convertersteps in between my apollo and atcs.

    Pull everything back a meter or so maybe? Away from window.

      @thomasvopstal  Před měsícem +1

      Hmm yeah so in the very first video of this series i’m talking to an acoustician where he talks about ‘speaker-boundary interference’ which means you want to be very close to the front wall. I’ve heard this from more reliable sources, so i’m going with that for now

    From the videos and tutorials I have seen. Aren’t you supposed to point the microphone towards the speakers? Why are you pointing it towards the ceiling?

      Most RTA mics come with 2 calibration files. One for straight on and one for 90 degrees. He’s likely using the 90 cal file.

    • @thomasvopstal
      @thomasvopstal  Před měsícem +4

      I’m not using a calibration file as i don’t trust the mic enough to actually be accurate. As i mentioned in the video, i’m looking for my biggest and most obvious issues. A cal file or positioning it differently isnt going to make that much if a difference at this stage. Once we deal with the big issues, i might rent an earthworks mic or something or maybe get an actual expert involved to figure out whats really happening. But for now this will do. I mean i’ve seen pro studiobuilders that have built million dollar studios, holding a mic in their hand while measuring. After i saw that i was like; aight, it doesnt matter that much😂

      @thomasvopstal you might want to check out the ik multimedia arc 4... my home studio is also in a room with less than idea measurements, and I must say the arc helped out significantly
