      Dangerous gamble- but it's ok, I made one too. I had a Red AXS derailleur 33t and only one 10-30 Rival Cassette. So I paired it with a 10-36t cassette, and paired it both 1x and 2x for CX racing, and while it's kind of sketchy I suppose, it still shifts very well. It just has to be a very well set up derailleur as far as settings. Within a quarter turn everywhere. And alignment settings have to be nearly perfect.

      Were you able to pair the AXS XPLR to a front AXS derailleur? Thinking about converting my 10-36 AXS to something bigger 10-44 but want to be able to run 46-33 in the front if I take the bike out on the road. Love to hear how you did it. Thanks

    Love Ratio tech. I still have their original mod (Apex 1 HYDRO R to 12s Eagle GX) That setup has migrated from a hard used Gravel bike down to my commuter, it still works flawlessly and indexing is a breeze. Crazy really that 12 speed mechanical on drop levers has only just become something you can get from a "big name" and I've been zipping around on it for almost half a decade. And all that time "the industry" was still telling everyone with a straight face that 12's mechanical was not possible/viable (until it was) and nobody was trying to force E-Shifting on you.
    Love E-shifting BTW I'm just not one of those "you can never go back" people and I like to have options.

    I love Ratio tech. I have an account with them and I'm a massive fan. It's super cool what they are doing, and I've been watching them closely. I'm SO glad to see these new parts are on the way. As a mechanic of a tiny shop that doesn't get a ton of attention, I STILL frequently get questions about if this kind of thing is even possible. Now, with the development of these products, I can tell them about the great company of Ratio Tech for yet another awesome product!

      I’ve completely moved over to AXS now other than this one bike with the RT kit. Another thing that they make which is awesome, is the cam plate - SRAM CX1 reach mechs can’t take big cassettes . You can change the pull ratio of an SRAM MTB rear mech to work with road shifters buy swapping the plastic cam plate where the cable feeds into the rear mech. This means you can run a GX XX1 or whatever MTB mech with a big cassette and road shifters - you don’t need the RT apart, you can swap it off of a busted CX1 rear mech if you have one. @@diehardbikes

    I built my gravel bike in 2019 and the ratio mod wasn't an option at the time so built the bike with an 11 speed garbaruk cassette and cage and I couldn't get it to work correctly, 2 months later purchased a sram eagle cassette, derailleur and done the ratio shifter mod, it was a life saver!
    The only other option at the time was XO1 AXS with AXS road shifters, it was going to cost me thousands to swap out the shifter, derailleur etc. also I didn't want electric shifting at all.

    On my list to buy convert my force 1x11 standard to 52t cog for cx/gravel/general outdoor bike with mechanical disc. Taking care of getting a new fork first to replace one cut to short for me. Fork ordered and on the way so then on to draivetrain with shorter crank length, more gears in back with better climbing, and 12 speed upgrade. Get the emails as I have account with them. Pay attention to pound to dollar conversion rate is key for outside UK if you want ratio technology. Love that they have different colors for unique bike looks.

    What would be awesome would be a way to make XPLR cassettes work with an Eagle drivetrain. It is so frustrating that SRAM made them incompatible via different chain spacing for no performance benefit. Then yoy could run the Eagle 10x50 mullet for gravel and a 10x44 XPLR for road without needing different rear mechs and chains.

    Can I ask if you guys have any knowledge of KX Wheels from Bob Elliot? Following on from my question yesterday where you suggested a 36h wheel would be more appropriate than my Giant GX wheels , I've been given a choice by my LBS to pay £165 for a new wheel (good price but impossible for me rn) or £65 for a rebuild of the GX.
    However, I see KX Wheels (rear) on sale for £60 with generic 36h hub, or £90 with 32h Deore 525 hub. Are these pure junk or more likely the better choice vs rebuilding the GX?
    Thanks again for the help and suggestions, and of course the interesting videos!

    • @Mapdec
      @Mapdec  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I don’t recall specifically saying 36h, but this is a good solution. I doubt that £65 rebuild includes spokes. I would go for the bob elliot wheel. It’s not really any better, but it is new and not corroded or fatigued. The Deore hub will be easier to service in the future.

    • @chris_gb_
      @chris_gb_ Před 3 měsíci

      @@MapdecThanks again! your perspective on this is really appreciated! The £65 price was based on £1.50 per spoke + £20something base labour price, I guess I live in a relatively poor, low wage area in a rural county.
      You are right, you didn't say 36h in your previous reply, I obviously conflated that with what the LBS replied with, that's what they suggested for the £165 wheel.

    Would Ratio consider expanding their 8-bolt chainring range down to the 32t and 30t sizes. 34t on the chainring isn't quite small enough for those of us running 1x12 touring bikes, even when using a 52t cassette. We touring cyclists only ever coast downhill, so 30t is more than large enough for high speed. Only the low end matters for us.
