On May 12th, 2007, Karachi, Pakistan, underwent horrifying occurrences of violence and disorder. This documentary digs deep into the political upheaval that paralyzed this town, revealing the tangled intricacies in the relations between such prominent people as Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary and President Parvez Musharraf. It also includes expert analysis and firsthand testimonies providing insights into some confusion experienced by the common man on the streets.
In the beginning of the narrative, there is a confrontation between Chaudhary and Musharraf which illustrates well the power struggles behind the unrest. The privatization disputes and, the Supreme Court’s intervention- are some of the catalysts that ignited tensions between political factions MQM, the Peoples Party, and ANP were involved in this.
The documentary takes the audience to the heart of Karachi and the violence burst with unimaginable ferocity. There was gunfire, burning cars, and lives were lost; scars that will never fade were left imprinted in every corner of the city. This film tells us how it happened because people who saw it described what they saw; some even recorded these incidents using cameras. So, for example, we can hear stories about shots being fired, demonstrations, and people being killed.
At last, thoughts on the aftermath of the riots and their prolonged effect on Pakistani society are brought up by the film. There remains doubt over who should be held responsible for these riots since the event occurred a long time back, thus repeating comments made by people such as Chaudhary and Musharraf. Let us then delve into one of Pakistan’s blackest episodes by joining as we seek out what really transpired during May 12th, 2007’s Karachi bloodshed victims’ commemorative service.
