  • You guys have been asking for a mullet catch clean cook, well here it is! I kind of just pieced this video together from a bunch of days and had some drone footage of the mullet run I never used from last year! Right now the 2020 Florida Mullet Run is underway and millions of baitfish are migrating down the coast with hungry tarpon, jacks and snook behind them!

    Tip for cooking bok choy, separate the stem and the leaf. The leaf cooks much faster than the stem. So they end up wilted by the time the stems are done. Throw the stems in with the ginger and garlic, then throw the leaves in near the end and just toss around for about a minute.

    Mullet is delicious! I didn't know what I was missing out on. This past summer we got skunked and happened to roll up on some horrse mullet on our way back to the boat ramp. Caught maybe a couple dozen and did the same. Salt pepper and Cayenne pan fried they are delicious. By far one of the best "trash/bait" fish I've ever eaten.

    Aloha Viktor, You probably already know what I'm going to say, but here in Hawai'i Mullet are considered a delicacy. We always eat then whole scaled and cleaned. and we usually steam them or wrap them in the leaf of the Ti (Cordyline fruticosa) plant and bake them. If you can find them at a local nursery you should get some and plant them around your home. There large leaf is great for wrapping and cooking things in as well as making great disposable plates. Hawaiians used to the the large sugar rich root ball of this plant, and boil it down, let it ferment, then distill into a potent hard liquor called "Okolehao (oh-koh-leh-ha-o). For steaming the mullet can be placed in a steamer with sliced onions, and shiitake mushrooms, and before serving put a handful of chopped green onions and cilantro on top, then pour some hot peanut oil on top right before serving for great presentation, and flavor. Aloha a hui hou.

    • @ALCIDESFARIAS
      @ALCIDESFARIAS Před 3 lety

      Yes. I was about to say that.
      Mullets live in inner waters: rivers and lagoons and they eat algae. That makes their meat to have a not so good taste.
      When they begin their run is due to their reproduction time. They go to the salty water get cleaned up. That makes them taste great.
      So, you have to get them in the ocean, preferably 200 miles from where they started their run.

One thing I noticed was that the blood line was bigger in my fish, especially one that was particularly dark. Is that good, bad or unimportant? Does it affect the flavour or is it just a cosmetic difference?

    • @larrypresnall5360
      @larrypresnall5360 Před rokem

      Remove the blood line. You’ll be glad you did! We never soak mullet (or any fish) in milk to try and remove, “fishy” taste. That’s in the blood line, so take it out, cook, and serve!
