I really love how scared the Colonel is of Neytiri, and for good reason. He's seen her arrow more than he's seen her, and every time he's seen it, it was lodged inside someone, In one case being lodged inside his own corpse. And the only times he has seen her was when she was shooting an arrow into his chest or threating the life of his son.

I cried in cinemas when the humans were hunting down the Tulkun spirit sister and the calf. It’s just so slow and painful to watch that overtime it makes you realise what we are doing to Earth right now. For Neteyam’s death too, just hearing Neytiri mourn over the loss of his oldest son really puts the perspective of a strong parent

My Mom was sadder than me when they hunted down the Mom whale. We were both SUPER concerned though about what was happening to the baby and whether the whalers were going to kill the calf, too!!!! My Mom and I were crying, too, when they showed Netemyam's and the grief they showed on Neytiri 's face added to the moment!! Zoe REALLY went for it!!! It was VERY real to me!!!! As a fan of the original film for 13 years, this was way worth the wait and I'm excited that it's being a fully-planned out franchise! My favorite characters are Kiri, Quaritch, Spider, and Tuk. Kiri and Quaritch and Spider especially are who I'm so curious about moving forward, as there is a lot to their characters left to explore. And I love how the story is way more personal, as you put it.

  • @sxcorrxs

I love how you understand spider has never had a family and that he’s never experienced family “love” so you understand why he got attached to quaritch, and why he saved him.

These Avatar movies are often very black-and-white, so I kinda liked what they did with the colonel's Na'vi clone. The concept that he's kinda the same person but not really and that he's now part the species he hates is interesting and how he has some care for his son.

Unquestionably the most visually stunning movie ever made, and manages to evoke the same sense of wonder and beauty as the original did when it was released in 2009. Overall I think this might be a step down from the first, as the earlier movie's "stranger in a new setting" plot connected better than the "protecting the family" one here, but it expands the world of Pandora well, manages to be pretty engaging throughout its very long 192 minute runtime without many moments that drag, and the 3D is absolutely breathtaking. I absolutely enjoyed the second trip to Pandora, and I look forward to revisiting this universe again when the third movie arrives in December 2024.

He was the director, not the writer
Killing John Connor was James Cameron's idea
Miller deserves another chance because he still got a lot to offer
He not only gave us DEADPOOL, but also SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, directed by his friend, Jeff Fowler

One of the best movies of 2022.
I loved when Lo'ak showed Quaritch his fingers. 😂
73 year old Sigourney Weaver playing a 14 year old girl is outstanding.
One of the many details I love is that Neteyam and Tuk both have 4 fingers and toes like Neytiri, and Lo'ak and Kiri both have 5 like Jake and Grace.
One benefit of being a five fingered Navi hybrid is that you can flip people off unlike regular Navi. 🤭

So I did get some flashbacks watching this. When Quaritch was giving his speech it reminded me of his speech in the first movie. When Jake's son was fleeing from the monster that was eating its way through everything it reminded me of Jake's run through the forest with the giant panther like animal. There were other smaller references to the first movie as well. I also got a couple Titanic flashbacks. I'm so glad I got to see this in theaters though.
I only saw one trailer and it wasn't one that showed that Quaritch was alive, so when they showed someone waking up I shouted No in the theaters. Then they showed his face and I was so upset, but I quickly got over that when I realized that it was an actually pretty cool way to have them come back.
I believe that Kiri might be the child of Eywa and Grace do to her strong connection.

“Avatar: The Way of Water” is the biggest visual effects project the company has ever taken on. Only two shots in the entire film contain no visual effects.
Despite all those long skin-pruning sessions in the tank and the vast quantities of water in the sequel, nearly all of the water in the film is computer-generated. Of the 3,240 visual effects shots Weta worked on, 2,225 involved water.
To bring Pandora to life, the team at Weta had to become expert not only in hydrodynamics, but also in rendering those complex physics photorealistically. The way water splashes, sloshes, sprays and saturates - in the parlance of the industry - had to be “solved.”
“There were something like 1,600 different major effects simulations,” said Eric Saindon, another effects supervisor at Weta. “The proper flow of waves on the ocean, waves interacting with characters, waves interacting with environments, the thin film of water that runs down the skin, the way hair behaves when it’s wet, the index of refraction of light underwater. We wanted to make it all physically accurate.”
As part of their research, the team shot hundreds of hours of reference footage: wind ripples on the surface of water, waves hitting rocks, the movement of seaweed. Saindon enlisted a friend to get dunked on camera so that the team could study the effects of water on curly hair. “Our pool was not the warmest thing in the world. I don’t think she’d do it again for us,” he said. Cameron himself provided reference material from his own deep-sea dives. 17:07 Not all water is the same. This water reminds me of the water around the St. John island and feels more tropical. Some areas were a bit murky in spots but for the most part it was clear in real life (I did scuba there a couple times). The water was also pretty calmish. I would say this is pretty realistic.

I finally got a chance to see this today, and I loved it! The environment, the story, the characters, the action and the emotional moments are what made this film better than the first. Spider’s story reminds me of Tarzan; he had Quaritch’s blood, but not his heart. I’m hoping by the next sequel he might get his own Avatar body, and that maybe Neytiri might come to accept him. While I could see Avatar Quaritch going from villain to maybe antihero, it would have to be a great redemption arc. Kiri gives me Anakin Skywalker vibes as they both were conceived with a mother, but possibly no known father. I have theory that maybe Eywa created Kiri with a special bond to her because Grace treated Eywa with respect as she only wanted to have knowledge and understanding of her and never had a bad intentions with that knowledge. Maybe Kiri was a gift as Eywa couldn’t save Grace or give her life again, but could give her life in the form of a daughter. My heart did break as we lost Netyam as Jake and Neytiri had to learn the hard reality of burying their own child like Théoden lost Théodred. I was glad that Lo’ak was finally able to find himself in the end and to finally have his father acknowledge his love for him. Tuk is so cute, funny, adventurous, and reminds me of Dot from A Bugs Life. I can’t wait for the sequels to come! I too wonder what other Na’vi tribes we’ll get to see.

1st one had a better structured story and 2nd had better character dynamics. As for superior sequel? James Cameron, best known for exponentially upping the #2 film, seems to have put that in reserve for #3. Way of Water was a 1st act back in writers room, so it's all about getting us reacquainted with Pandora. Because #3 is where "everything changes". So much so that his 9 hour cut is rumored have a 3 hour film and 6 hour limited series.

    1. How the film began - Jake Sully does not want a war because of the threat of losing his family. How the film ended - Jake Sully wants war because his son was killed. Has anything else changed at the global/local level? No. So why wasn't it possible to kill Jake's son early, at least in the middle of the movie and fill it with really interesting events?
If Dune is the first half of the story, then Avatar 2 is a filler.
    2. Navi didn't have a chance against people when they take things seriously. In fact, it was only thanks to the help of the Power of Planetary Love that they coped with several combat units. This time they somehow managed to cope with one whaling vessel.
Will they be able to do anything at all against a city/military base with walls of tens of meters, anti-aircraft guns, an air defense system, etc.?
    3. I can understand why people perceived one renegade as a danger worthy of such efforts to eliminate. But what about Jake himself?! He abandoned his people, who would have been destroyed because of one fact of involvement. He did not create resistance, did not unite the peoples of Pandora (at least one tribe), did not teach them how to wage war against people, did not prepare them corny.
Yes, a person may want peace in the family circle. But not a man like Jake Sully, as he was made in the first part.

Let me answer that for you:
In this movie, the actors are actually swimming. Of course, they need to use CGI and all that to make them Na’vi and the ocean life, but they truly are swimming. The CGI work on the water is so detailed that it looks more realistic than real, if you know what I mean.
If your seen the trailer for The Little Mermaid, the water and the underwater scenes look NOTHING like this! James Cameron goes hard with his passion project and he wants everything to look as real as it can. Disney can’t do that, or they just won’t put in the effort because the trailer for the Little Mermaid looks bland in color, CGI, and mood all together.
In other words, you’re not going to get realistic water and underwater scenes like this, ever.

Amazing job on your reaction Tim…I remember seeing it in 3D on my birthday back in December and I was so amazed by it and so moved (I even cried a little bit as well) but I can’t wait to see what reactions you do in the future as well as Avatar 3 in 2024! Keep up the great work on all of your reactions! 🐉💙💦💧🐋 Also no offense to me or any other MCU fans but I preferred the underwater scenes in Avatar: The Way Of Water than in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever!

The movie was great and I still love it, but I hope you don't mind some criticism. The plot was repeated so many times. Childrens were captured and freed at last 2-3 times. I was also not fun how many humans died especially that arm cutting scene was gross. It felt like one third of screentime was Avatar 1.5 then second third was The Abyss and the last third was Titanic v2.0. I liked the see Na'vis, but they could have moved from the Maori culture as we talk about a different alien tribe on an other planet. Somehow I expected more creativity like floating antigravity reefs, pocket oceans, falling up water, new sea creatures, more about the Na'vi lore (likestyle, civilization, connection to other tribes and the mainland, Eywa worship) etc.. I am sure there is plenty of stories to tell in Avatar 3 (finished) and Avatar 4 which is under production now.

I rarely say things like this, but I think Spider should have left Quaritch to die. He's nothing but a sperm donor, he's not his father. After seeing what a horrible person he was, and what he did to his adopted family and all those innocent people, plus hunting all those poor animals, Spider should have realized that Quaritch just needed to be gone. Ney'tiri may never have warmed to him, but now she's going to (understandably) be unable to forgive him for saving the man who killed Neyteyam, led the attacks on their world, killed their wildlife, destroyed their home, I mean, come on, when is it too much, Spider? I wouldn't blmae Ney'tiri for not wantinug Spider around her kids.

Neytiri hated spider even before all these things…she hated him since he was a toddler. Even after countless times he’s helped her kids she still would’ve hated him. So if spider were to have left him to die, she wouldn’t have changed. And recom quaritch is not technically the same person as human quaritch. Og miles wouldn’t have cared for or felt uncomfortable while doing any of the things from miles did. 💀

@@hobi.-. Quaritch is exactly the same, just in a different body. As far as Neytiri, she doesn't HATE Spider, she just doesn't like him because he's human, which I don't agree with, she's unfairly judging him because of his race and his parentage. I think his act of saving Quaritch may push her into hating him, idk, we'll have to see. Because this time, that was his fault, his choice,

Or when spider was being tortured for info about Jake??

I personally enjoy this film more than the first one. Not just because my inner aspiring VFX artist was blown away on how amazing the VFX and animation were, but the majority of the problems I had with the first movie (shallow characters and the ham-fisted and condescending messages) only made up a smaller percentage of what was in this.
