I love that his concern wasn't about being cut up and being sold to be consumed, but that fact that they might not be planning to do anything with his balls.

@@rocketforthree4479 The newspaper has a guide for when football games are on. Meat pies are eaten more by poor people and in Britain football is traditionally a poor persons' sport.
Poor people eat meat pies because they usually have lower quality ingredients, a similar thing would be McDonalds' hamburger meat or chicken nuggets.
The joke is his testicles are going to be used for meat pies, which are traditionally eaten at a football game.

Oh my god, let me tell you...this advert...sometimes I wondered if it was even real but seeing it come up in the stream REALLY unlocked my memory of seeing it on TV around the early evening of some late Summer day in 2003. Despite only ever seeing it once, I sometimes remember it in confusion on if it was something I really saw or something I imagined but...jeez, holy fudge, this shook me to see again. @.@;; Surprised its in such decent quality too!

I thought the commerical said "The balls are back!" and not "Football is back", so i thought "Wait a second, is it a commercial for a special football pie made with bull testicles?", because it would make a lot of sense.
The implication is that the cheaper, more unpaletable cuts of meat end up in the kind of mass produced food traditionally sold at football games. And the punters eat it anyway. It's not high class dining. A meat pie is stereotypically a football match staple food.
Like the tweet of birds heralds the dawn, the consumption of cheap pastries heralds a new season of football.

I love that theres no answer to what the hell the first part of the commercial was. Just "what about my testicles?" And then "FUTBOLS BACK!"
The best thing about this commercial is that it's for _The Guardian,_ which for American readers is the British equivalent of _The New Republic_ - it's a left-leaning newspaper mostly read by middle-class white-collar workers. Clearly this advert was trying to court a working-class readership with a bit of raunchy humor because they wouldn't buy it usually.
The Guardian hasn't had a sense of humour for 20 years, so it makes perfect sense - A. Brit.
