Spero dovunque essa sia che veda quanto amore e quanta ammirazione desta in tanti ed anche se alcuni l'hanno fatta soffrire e poi lasciata sola e triste... oggi lei si prende una rivincita stellare, lei sarà ricordata non solo come soprano assoluto ma anche come una vera protagonista della storia del 900... Nesuno canterà mai come lei...e ringraziamo il fato che le ha permesso di nascere in un periodo in cui la si è potuta registrare... pensate solo a questa "fortuna"... !!!

Lilli Lehmann said she would rather sing three Brunhilde's than one Norma. On the other hand, Beverly Sills said she didn't find the part particularly difficult. I imagine the finale must be exhausting, both vocally and emotionally. Regardless, I believe Callas will always own the role of Norma. As Leonard Bernstein said, "We are not likely to see her equal . . . soon."
This is why she was and is the greatest...

This recording was published in 1954, not 1953. This is a studio recording, and unfortunately does not come close to the live performances we have of Callas in the role (especially from 1953 in Trieste and, the best of all, in 1955 at La Scala).
And what about 1955 in Rome? Callas is in a better voice there than at La Scala later the same year.
Norma is a dream role both dramatically and musically! ❤️

No. It was recorded in 1953. Photos of the recording session (it was recorded in a Milan cinema) show a thin, elegant Callas, and her voice is the think Callas voice, though in 1954, she still used some of the vocal positions that she used before she got too skinny.
