    Great video! Was good to see so many people at the museum. I was driving 3383 all day and it was good to see the interest in it, we spent a bit of time sprucing it up as it’s been stored for a while.
    Interestingly 3383 demonstrated at many depots, including Hamilton, before finally settling in at Port Botany when AirPort Express expanded. It had air con added then. Later it went to Randwick, then Kingsgrove then Brookvale. It’s a really nice bus to drive.

      3383 is quite a cool bus in my opinion, it’s very unique in how it’s interior is layed out and it was clearly never intended to be a route bus. I would never have guessed Hamilton as a trial depot, so that’s quite interesting to know. The museum has done an excellent job in restoring 3383 (and all of their buses of course!) and it would be cool to see it or 3511 painted into Airport Express livery since no buses that I know of have been preserved in that livery. I’m glad you enjoyed the video, it was a fun one to make and I had I great day at the museum. Thanks Deano! :)

    I'd often get allocated the older STA buses when going to school. Wasn't that long ago either...

      Older buses often get used for school runs since nicer, newer ones are generally reserved for paying passengers.

    3383: was this the last bus to to have a transparent view through the driver's cabin? I really miss this, though I know the CNG buses had no choice.
    Or were the Scania high-floor buses the final example?

      CDC NSW (hills district) have some CB60 bodied buses clear plastic behind the window, those are the B10BLE CB60s not the B7RLE ones.

    The audio quality on this, and the editing to reveal it, is quite good.

    I forgot what 3761 looked like since I stripped it all its interior windows lights etc …

      You should post videos of it on your channel, it’d be interesting to see what a low-floor Orana looks like as a mobile home :)

    The STA was part of my childhood until it got privatised in 2022. Great, but exiting to see retired buses making their comeback for this occasion, and it's quite nostalgic if anyone rides one of them as it brings back memories of when these buses were around, especially our childhood.
    Nowadays, we still see STA buses on the road, but in different operators (hence the operator's logo, accreditation details and uniform), although the Cooperate V1/2 and Transport NSW liveries, along with the fabric seating, fleet numbers and the regos (both m/o and ST) still remained the same.

      I grew up in the Botany area so I grew up with STA aswell, it was very nice to see all these buses again :)

    Bus 2007 was built in 1978 which is over 45 years old

    Stupid question: Why are these low-floor buses withdrawn? Didn't older buses used to be run for longer, i.e. 30 or 40 years? Or am I just showing my age and 25 years was always the maximum? But my question remains - what's wrong with them? They're accessible, they're air-conditioned, and we're buying new ones running on diesel. I'd get it if we were switching to CNG or EV.

    • @coolsoap8
      @coolsoap8  Před měsícem

      I believe the MAN Orana was withdrawn due to three factors; part sourcing, age, and lack of accessibility (despite being low entry they can’t fit a wheelchair between the wheel arches). I’m not too sure why the Volvo Orana was withdrawn, and the Scania Orana is actually still in route service. So there you go :)
