  • This episode we finally get to cover up the framing and are using the great new product called Forcefield Weather Barrier System OSB in 4x8 sheets. The Forcefield OSB has a thin waterproof barrier built into it that is glued to the from of the OSB sheet and for the seams we use the Forcefield seam tape, the regular gray tape for the walls and the premium yellow tape for the roof. After getting the sheathing finished we move onto cutting the rafters and nailing them into place, once completed we use the Forcefield OSB again for the roof sheathing. the great thing about this product is the time it saves by not needing to use house wrap, even on the roof Forcefield OSB can be used with no felt paper or additional covering, just nail shingles right to the OSB. This is the 3rd episode in our garage building mini series.

Forcefield tape looks like just wider tyvek tape. I am looking into using forcefield sheathing to save money over zip but will probably use zip tape.

The forcefield osb is great, I'll never go back to house wrap again. The yellow forcefield tape is super sticky and heavy duty, that's what I'll go with next time for all the seams. I've never used the zip tape but I've heard it's a bit better than the gray forcefield tape. Good luck with your project, you'll really like the forcefield osb.

@@slothconstruction zip tape is great plus you get the self sealing on fasteners going through it. Stretch tape for corners is amazing as well. Thanks for the info on forcefield.

@@POLOLOUS3 does zip tape adhere well to the force field surface? I wanted to do the same but was concerned about using products together that weren’t designed for each other. Also from what I’ve seen of the tape it looks super prone to tearing and becoming brittle over time since it seems to behave like packing tape so just another concern

Could this be used on interior of a shed with the forcefield side facing the interior?

Yes you can definitely use this on the interior of s shed, it will give it some water protection. In the garage I built a made a small dog kennel inside and used the forcefield osb facing in and it works great.

Canf the forcefield side be painted? Looking to use this for a chicken coop and cant find any answers on this

Hey that's a great question! I didn't know the answer so I grabbed a extra piece of forcefield osb and painted it. Oil based paint didn't paint very well but latex paint went on no problem and covered nicely. The osb membrane is kind of a paper with a plastic coating. It has some wrinkles in it so the paint won't be smooth. If it's for a chicken coop you should paint both sides, or if you wanted something more weather resistant I would recommend T1-11 plywood and water seal it. But short answer, yes you can paint the osb
