Westerners are just mad that someone else is starting to play the game they subjected the rest of the world to using the exact same rules.
There was this kid when i was growing up that was profoundly unpopular in our school. I'll call him Andres. However, Andres was the only kid with enough money to buy nice footballs. So he would buy nice balls, bring them to school, and everyone felt obliged to talk to him or follow his rules (it was his ball after all). It never made him any more popular but it did, in a way, make him more powerful.
I feel like sports in the middle east is like Andres. No one really likes them any more than they did before, but they have some semblance of power now so we play by their rules.
Kind of. You only played with Andres' ball because you didn't want to play with your ball and friends. Also, Andres didn't respect anybody or any beliefs unless they aligned with his. Also, he broke all the rules at school and was unpopular for a reason

These last two videos along with the Roman Abbamovic video are amazing; going over the history, geopolitical implications, and then of course the impact made on football. Really interesting stuff, would love to see more of this kind of video

I remember the Aspire TV spot running on Eurosport back in 2005 and 2006. I didn't know or understand what it was, I was only a teenager back then, but it was clean cut and left me an impressiom that it is something good. Sportswashing at its finest.
Jon's interview with James Montague was really intruiging and interesting, but this series, is just a piece of art for football fans !

Unbelievably good. I lived in the middle east for 21 years but didn't know much of this. Best coverage I have seen so far. Something people who never lived there don't know is how a lot of the actions taken by the gulf countries stems from jealous and competition amongst them. One thing I hope Tifo touches on is how much Saudi Arabia and UAE want Qatar World cup to fail!!!
