The crowd was great. I hate when an artist is trying to play really quiet and build and jackasses are whistling and screaming. Ruins the shit. Not here.👍
Nate's a fav too! So hard to pick a fav fav though - Marcus Gilmore is amazing and i just learned about Makaya McCraven, younger but man. drummers are the heart of any band. I love it when drummers are so creative the band takes the bench for a minute haha
Although I've had a couple of Mackaya's tracks on my playlists, I really only discovered who he is a couple of weeks ago. His newest release is out of this world phenomenal! That being said, Nate is my drum hero. I have a hard time seeing anyone usurp that place in my mind and heart, although I can absolutely love and appreciate the genius of other drummers and composers too. =)
Never seen this guy before. I think what I like is the simplicity in using the rim. A 'modern' drum solo would be similar hits but just moved around and it makes it harder to distinguish the accents and patterns, but you can every hit it so clearly on the rim. He could do all that and disperse it through other toms and cymbals, but it wouldn't make it any more or less difficult. This man has awesome stick control and I enjoyed listening:)
Wow!! Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time!! The Italians have a saying but I'll translate, to do a lot with a little!! There was a whole lot of sound. There was a whole lot of creativity. There was a whole lot of feel and emotional content in everything that he played. So with a hi-hat snare drum bass drum and maybe some percussion instrumentation I must say it is one of the most enjoyable musical moments that I have seen. Miracles and blessings to you always!! Keep your chops up my brother 🙏❤️🥁
This is why I have a "nate smith" Playlist separate from my "drumming" Playlist lol. Nate is my favorite drummer, he's like a wizard on the drums it's so amazing how he stretches and messes around w/time signatures and grooves that almost sound impossible sometimes, and while always staying perfectly in the pocket. His drumming is supernatural almost
My friend and mentor! Nate has played on some tracks for me back in the day and we also played keys together for D Folks!!! He also wrote horn lines for Tha Zone for Freak D back in 97! RVA!!!!!!
Some delusional drummers in these comments. To whichever drummer wrote "give me some time" and you could learn all the licks: How much time you need just to cop the combinations in between the 3:00 and 4:00 mark? I'll spot ya five years. As for Neil, I bet he'd be the first to tell you Nate's finesse is on a whole different level.
He’s a monster. Totally cool. I dig the three piece set up and he says a lot with it. Obviously a major player. And I like the band as a whole, but I have to say you only need to hear about two of their songs to get their entire thing. To me it sounds like everything they do is just the same song. There’s very little variation.
Thanks for all your comments guys! I hope you learned something from this mastermind of a drummer🔥 I have some other video’s of him as well, make sure to head over to my channel and check them out!
It was ok now a drum solo to me I mean he’s a bad ass groover but you want a drum solo a working put together drum solo listen to Buddy Rich or Neil pearts drum solos You will never see solos like that again
@@jackytoppie5561 well, yeah. I´m a drummer and I couldnt see much in that tbh, give me some time and I can definitely play the whole thing I like to watch crazy drumming, which I watch in disgrace and say to myself: "I could never perform this"
@@Ricardo-ki1qq You cant be a very good drummer if you cant recognise that you'll never be able to actually play anything that nate plays. Theres a big difference between hitting the right drums/cymbals on the right notes, and hitting the groove correctly.
The landscape of textures this man gets out of a 3 piece kit is just wild. Total mastery.
Spot on Lindsay. So well said
Well said indeed
two piece! Have a nice new year.
2 piece. Only drums count. And this is a brilliant solo by a master drummer.
It's not fair
If there's ever existed a perfect example of how 'less is more', this is 100% it.
Aside from my girlfriend’s chest, yes.
I couldn't have said it better myself. 👍
@@jumpinjojo
just like ur ex probly ain't over thrilled with ur lesses either
This isnt really "less is more", this is "more with less"
His groove is so hot it has its own fan.
Haha yep
What a respectful crowd... simply amazing performance. Triple cross stick strokes are insanely difficult. Smooth like butter.
The crowd was awesome! Not suprised though...
The crowd was great. I hate when an artist is trying to play really quiet and build and jackasses are whistling and screaming. Ruins the shit. Not here.👍
Can't help but move everything with grooves like this
Oooops reminded me of Ralph McDonald and Steve Gadd back in the the day .
No doubt this is super cool and creative ....beautiful too !!
He really got Several sounds from just the rims and sticks….so it to me sounded like a full range solo…..a true musician percussionist!
“I play a 3 piece kit”
“Oh, what size Toms?”
…
Nate needs the smalles of equipment to make the greatest of sounds
It's actually a 2 piece kit, you only count the shells
This guy has it figured out......great stuff.
Nate Smith: hold my stick
Nate Smith: can do
xD
My favorite drummer. And as an aside, whenever you think that life is hard, just remember that you're not Joe's neck.

it takes a strong neck to handle that amount of f u n k & g r o o v e
harder than steel
If musicality could flow out of veins, this is what it’d sound like
Proof that if your Good, you don't need a 30 drum, 10 cymbal set up kit. 👌🏻
Intense!! It’s interesting what emotion he gets with his simple drummer’s voice. I like it!!!!
I think James Brown would have totally loved this.
Another nate smith played in browns band i believe.
Two drums,and whole lotta rythym,and Nate don't need much,yet a showstopper!✊️😎😊🔥🔥🔥🔥

The transition at 0:53 is what scares me the most. He can make up such awesome grooves on the spot with the rim
@@jackytoppie5561that’s not even the rim of the snare, he’s hitting the shell of the kick drum!
Absolutely cannot wait til Nate and The Flyers come west
Bloody hell, that is savage
The power of the groove.
That is insane!!! Both of my arms almost fell off my body from fatigue just watching this guy.
I enjoyed this. I usually get bored during drum solos but this was good.
It definitely wasn’t boring 😂
Love Uncle Nate!!!

Outstanding all this with a minimalistic kit 👊🏾🙏🏾🔥🔥🖤
Wow. Solo of the year for me. Unreal.
Nate really suprises me everytime
agreed, I haven't seen better! Louis Cole and Nate Wood were throwing serious shapes this year too
When you realise he doesn't even hit the hi-hat until 4 mins
And he still makes it sound better than most of us do with sticks
Freakin’ AWESOME mr. drummer man! 👍🏽
Amazing!!
Thank you for sharing. Happy Drumming!

I'm very gratefull!
Man’s in there!
I was in a situation like this. Only kick, snare and hat and was called to solo. Pulled every lick out the hat. Well done.
Got video?
One word.... Phenomenal
Thank you for the video looking forward to seeing many more
Yessssss ! 🔥👌
Underrated is the way to go…😱
This is phenomenal
Mind not blown 😢
Unreal!
You should've been there...
Seems like he puts music(ality) first, and that's what makes it sound so good
It’s unfair how he makes a small kit sound this big
Musicality is almost always more important. Only if proficiency is the distinct thing on display is it the other way around, in my opinion.
That exactly right. Musicality first
"will blow your mind"...
Yeah, that's fair.. thats about right
Dope.
yes indeed!
Them grooves are thicc.
HOLY S%^$!!! My God man!
Nice

Doing the job well.
He masters his job
Imagine what he could do with a two, or even ONE piece kit!!!!! 🤯
Dat was funkier than Sasquatch booty in late July...
Who said you need cymbals??? MY GOD!!!!
Holy moly. I’d love to see him and Benny greb Jan out together
That would be awesome!
If you were just listening, you wouldn't immediately think he is playing a 4 piece.
Yup, its a 2 piece
Dang he gets a lot of grease in that funk
Very greasy
The guy on the bass is getting down
That’s what he’s famous for! Joe dart is something else

Variationenreich
What's the name of this band?
I am certain this drummer Never even bothers with wallets on snare drums or jingles on Hi hats
Song?
What does he put on his snare at 3:09? I want it
I think it’s something from big fat snaredrum (BFS). He likes to use those.
Is this a trap music drum solo
Eh. More impressed he figured out how to take a smaller Uber to a gig.
This guy would sound so much better with more drums but then he wouldn't stand out.
Wait i've seen those jumpsuit guys on guitar before === nate was just guesting w them?
must've been a guest
Fearless Flyers; not a guest, he's part of the band
Not just guesting. It's The Fearless Flyers
