  • @EL2sides
    @EL2sides Před 2 lety +100

    I passed my theory 1st time today.
    For the Questions: I used the "Official DVSA Theory Test for Car drivers" book and the 4in1 Driving Test Success app.
    The book was useful as it covers most of the necessary information in an easy way that allows you to understand the topics instead of merely memorise the answers. The app was great practice and the questions I got were almost identical to the officially released ones.
    Practice the questions in EVERY category again and again. Read the explanations, so even when a question is worded differently, you'll know what to answer. Do a lot of mock tests and once you're consistently getting over 47-48, you'll know you're good. I also did a few mocks on different websites just to see if I could answer the question when it's worded differently than the ones I was used to in the app.
    For Hazard: The CGI clips are clear and slow, so it's really difficult to miss a hazard and their style is very similar to the ones released by the DVSA for practice. Personally, I initially practiced with real-life ones in the 4in1 app and that trained my brain to spot the hazards while a lot of things were going on in the scene. HOWEVER, real-life ones required faster clicking reaction compared to the CGI clips (I often scored 0 in the CGI ones because I clicked too early whereas that was ok for the real life ones). So, you can practice real-life ones to sharpen your eye but after that FOCUS on CGI to find your pace and clicking technique, 'cause they are similar to the ones you'll get on the actual test.
    Good luck!!

    I got all question right and I live in Australia. Back in the 70's when I went for my drivers written test we had 12 questions to answer in 2 sets. The first part of 3 questions were diagrams and you had to get all 3 correct. If you didn't get them correct that was the end of the test and you had to wait 3 days before taking the test again. The 2nd part of 9 questions you had to get 7 out of 9 correct.

    OK so this is straight forward after 30 yrs driving and good luck to all those having to take this test But once you've passed - Don't assume that other drivers actually know what they are doing, most of learning to drive is later when faced with unexpected situations. It possibly won't be your fault but you'll be blamed anyway.

      You surely have a memory lapse. 2 hours driving on a test? A test usually takes around 30-40 mins, and an examiner would never announce you had passed your test until you are parked back at the test centre. (This is because you could be over excited and not concentrate on the road as you still have to drive back to the test centre, same as being told you'd failed)

    Although scoring 50/50 as a qualified automotive engineer I would disagree with one or 2 of the answers which is based on numbers of recoveries seen less frequently in urban areas . Steady state motorway driving is less harmful and actually beneficial to a motor vehicle than stop start driving in an urban environment . The engine remains at a constant temperature , less ancilliaries e.g. cooling fans , alternators etc are under less stress to function , increased under bonnet and under vehicle airflow , the ability for the engine to run cleaner and exhaust system to function at designed temperature etc. All normal checks should be done anyway even if not driving on motorways daily or weekly at most and a quick visual check around the vehicle before setting off anywhere is recommended looking for dirty lights , registration plates , equal tyre pressures takes seconds . I call it a ' Pilot Check'. Tyre pressures , fluid levels lights and so on . Most drivers would not have enough experience to know if a serpentine or cam belt is about to let go , and this is a common failure anywhere and normally happens in stop start driving conditions when an engine is switched off .
    The age of a driver is a contentious issue .Age has nothing to do with reaction speeds only in some cases . Driving experience to deal with every situation that you will encounter only comes with age . I have been the first responder to numerous accidents over the years and medically trained to attend accident victims until paramedics arrive and handover or continue to assist and often carried out this activity late at night/early on motorways when traffic has been light always taking necessary safety precautions (warning triangle and beacon , hazards on my vehicle ) before triaging and attending to victims .I always carry a trauma kit in my daily driver for that purpose . OK as I 64 year old I have been barred from entering the I.O.M. Sidecar TT through ageism by the sponsors Monster who has limited the competition age to 45 , but I'm still one of the fastest drivers in my race car driving formula , and faster over the local derestricted road stages used by RAC rally cars AT NIGHT in my standard every day driver . If driving at speed , night time allows oncoming vehicles to be seen well in advance and choose the road stages where little or no residential properties exist and hours when it is highly unlikely that other road users particularly pedestrians are around . Also note there is a legal definition of " street racing " although not commonly presented in defence of those multiple parties caught in such activities on speed restricted roads . Street racing does not apply to single vehicles on derestricted roads , where an individual can hone his skills . An Advanced Driving course is recommended to those who have not had access to racetrack experience as some of us have during their early years of driving or before . This will also help when insuring your vehicle as a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists .
    On a lighter note the ice warning sign surely means " Avoid Snowflakes Ahead " ! I would suggest a new warning sign in London " Dangerous Cyclists Ahead " depicting a cyclist riding over the roof of car , or a cyclist with a question mark instead of a head . They are like mosquitoes or crane fly's , absolutely everywhere and rarely considering any other road users or pedestrians .

    Why can’t the priority signs - which display two contrasting arrows pointing in opposite directions - be reduced to a single broad arrow: white for facing traffic which has the priority and a broad red arrow facing traffic which does not? Alternatively, simply show the same broad white arrow pointing against - that is, inverted - traffic which does not have priority.

  • @fritzhenning1
    @fritzhenning1 Před 2 lety +5

    I got one wrong (I'm 76 and never had any theory lessons). It was about what to do when coming on a serious incident. The 'correct' answer was phone for an ambulance rather than my answer of get other drivers to help. It of course depends on the situation. If you are on an isolated country road then phoning for an ambulance/police makes sense. If it's a busy road then stopping other vehicles piling into the mayhem makes sense and then phoning for the ambulance seems the sensible choice. Ambulances take time to arrive and a few seconds more is unlikely to make much difference. Also, do you ask for the ambulance or police first?

    • @billybosh1891
      @billybosh1891 Před 2 lety +2

      Unfortunately the police are not very good Doctors. Those extra few minutes may just make the difference in saving a persons life. Especially when they have serious injuries.

    • @Cjbx11
      @Cjbx11 Před 2 lety

      Only one I got wrong was the one about your car being on fire in a tunnel. I put stop and use the emergency phone. I understand why it’s a good idea to get the car out of the tunnel but I’m not sure it could ever be considered safe to continue if your car was on fire.

    • @fritzhenning1
      @fritzhenning1 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Cjbx11 I think the answer for both you and billy bosh is that it depends on the circumstances. If it's a very short tunnel drive out, if it's the Mont Blanc then drive to the next layby with a phone. Stopping other drivers and phoning 999 at the same time makes sense. The option said nothing about the sevetity of the injuries if any. That's the danger of prescribing only one answer to a situation which you must assess when it happens. Another moan, we all flash our lights to let oncoming traffic know we are giving them right of way. Merely flashing to indicate you are there seems daft. You could sit there all day long flashing each other. Boris might get excited though. Still I think we all agree that these test are desirable and probably essential for inexperienced drivers.
