Cyber robotaxi - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I'm too old to have a car drive me around without a steering wheel. 😆 just give me an electric car for 23k that will go 2 million miles. 😅
China made cars do what OP askes--but "Detroit et al" will not allow them in the USA
I hear ya brother, I want a simple reliable CHEAP modular Long range electric car with readily avaliable parts thats simple to work on and a battery that is eaily swaped if required.
@@michaelandrews4783- yup, that's what I'm saying!!! You get it!
What about when you’re too old to have a driving licence? Stay home isolated or rely on Uber etc?
If you're too old to have a car drive you around then you probably won't make it to 2 million miles. Any chance you'll settle for one that'll make it 300,000 miles? Also...you can go get a Model Y for 33k right now. IJS
This channel is really the only one needed for Tesla news. You’re fast, thorough, accurate, and well produced. I’m always impressed.
I’m with you, I think they’ll showcase the platform in August, and then we’re 2 to 3 years from delivery, similar to the Cybertruck, while they work on the tech needed to actually bring to production.
Its kind of hilarious that Tesla would announce a robotaxi production for mid 2025 when they can't even use FSD on the highway unsupervised. Robotaxi will NEVER be approved for use without lidar since FSD vision fails in the rain
It failed with smoke/steam coming out of construction vehicle. and Fog? Needs high definition radar. Detecting 2 cars in front slowing down.
@@Trust_but_Verify yes these cars need the same lidar than all humans have. This is why BMWs can safely continue on their way at 90mph in a snow storm.
@@user-jt4fy4od9r Even with snow tires it's irresponsible to be driving at 90mph or over 65mph in a snow storm.
8/8 in what year? He didn't state 2024 😆
2088
"two weeks"
good point.
No year stated.. it should be the same year as message sent. This 2024.
@@KodawariKatsuya That's what he expects us to assume, however if not met, he can always use that as an excuse.
I live in a rural area. I don't want to wait 30 minutes for a robotaxi to show up. So I hope they will make a $25,000 driveable version of the new car. I will be very disappointed if they don't.
Did you even listen to the video? 🤣🤣
Well, it depends on how rural, but for sure the robotaxi will be most lucrative and useful in the city, so it will start there and work it's way out. Also, if you can plan ahead, it should be a lot better. If people are willing to ride together, that should help too when there are peaks in demand. One huge advantage, is you can be to young/old to drive, too poor to maintain a car, or have your license taken for whatever reason, and still be able to use it.
BYD will be here soon with 12-15k car
@@Bill-Rink have you seen that car? The Dolphin I'm assuming you're talking about. Nobody in the US will want that little thing lol. 14k is great. But THAT car? 187 mile range? Yeah doesn't work buddy.
@@Bill-RinkUsed 2021/2022 Tesla base model 3s aren’t too far from that range. I’m seeing a bunch around $20k. Take out the $4k tax credit and then you are in around $16k
I have been using the free supervised FSD they sent me. It has only completed 1 out of 10 trips correctly. It turned toward a road clearly blocked off with construction signs, it couldn't correctly determine a left turn only lane from a center lane, it takes a long time to navigate a simple stop sign, it camps out in the left lane on the freeway, it continually runs the windshield wipers even when its not raining, it starts to sprinkle and then I get a chime every 30 seconds saying "FSD may be degraded." it's like being driven around by someone who just got their learners permit. When it is working it puts a smile on my face, so I enjoy it, but it isn't close to something ready to be autonomously on the road. Decades out in my opinion.
My guess is he's talking about a "big announcement" in August because you have to keep shareholders happy and tell them you're doing something. All I know is, FSD, while MUCH BETTER is still not good enough. I got the update on my '23 MYLR and had to drive to another state, about an hour's long drive. My thoughts:
* out of my 60 minute drive, 55 of it was done by FSD. Basically, 92% of the time, I wasn't driving. But that means 8% of the time, I had to rescue it.
* specifically, it simply doesn't handle changes in the road AT ALL. So at one point, construction workers put cones in a lane and closed it off. Thankfully, FSD saw it. But as you and I would see it and switch lanes, it just stopped, forcing me to take over. Temporary lines in the road, any construction, it just gets confused.
* In a tunnel I went through, at two points there are silly plastic "sticks" used to divide the road. Why are they there? I have no idea. Anyway, the sticks seem to be made of soft plastic and over time, it's been drooping. When you pass by it, you might only have six inches. Well that just confuses the heck out of FSD and it slowed down to about 10mph, in an area where most people want to do 45-50. Again, I had to take over there.
* confusing city driving. We all know city driving, where everyone knows how to drive, but the lanes aren't marked correctly? And everyone is super aggressive? I was in one area like that and, to be fair, I didn't even let it try to handle the area, because I just knew it couldn't.
I won't even mention all of the speed adjustments you have to do so that it drives with the flow of traffic. I also won't mention that it doesn't avoid potholes and will blindly plow through them, no matter how deep they are. It's much, MUCH better, but is a long way from level 5 autonomy, where you could sit back and read a book while it drives.
Thank you for a real world review.
Yes, these are my experiences as well. Appreciate your honest take. It is a shame CZcamsrs and those on Twitter aren’t as forthcoming and honest about the state of this software.
There are second-order safety clues that 12.3.3 has yet to learn, such as kids or pedestrians crossing a side street that will cause the inattentive guy turning left in front of you to slam on his brakes before he completes his turn. FSD needs to look two steps ahead, just like a good human driver.
Very much true. However FSD reduces so much driving fatigue in boring and long roads. It helped me many times when I am simply tired but I have to reach my destination.
Yeah I agree to an extent. The times I've had to take over have been due to bad road conditions or other bad drivers doing things that confuse it. However....it's pretty clear Tesla is on the right track with this and I'd actually be shocked if they don't get to level 5 fairly quickly. Especially now that the influx of FSD data coming in is crazy.
Four wheels, five doors, one steering wheel and two pedals. PLEASE😂
They need to offer both. The market will call for both, and the potential for each will be unleashed!
If Elon is smarter than us, there must be a reason why he scrapped the idea.
Was using my free 30 day trial of FSD and it almost got me t-boned. Not a tricky situation, weather, or awkward driving scenario. It simply pulled me out into oncoming traffic. It’s not ready! No way worth $12K. Not safe.
How did you get the trial?
@@jcj68you will eventually get it. Tesla released it a couple days ago
@@jcj68 it’s being rolled out. It’s not clear if older production models will get it at all.
I got my 30 day trial fsd too about a week ago. Very impressive. I’ve had to override it a few times-it didn’t see garbage cans I almost hit. But overall is amazing. Not amazing enough to pay 12k for me. Love my 2021 Tesla model y performance. Great product!
Tesla would not transfer FSD from my model 3 to new model Y, as they advertised and signed up to. I did get 30 day “free” trial of new FSD. It certainly is better than previous version, but stay awake- it won’t get me to spend another $12K for such poor support.
He basically confirmed 2 cars still. Same car one with steering wheel and one without
with a steering wheel makes sense... since FSD requires hands on a steering wheel, lol.
Yea I don’t think any laws would allow a steer less vehicle on the road, at least now anytime soon.
Anyone who takes Elon Musk's 'basically confirmed' as reliable needs to have their head examined.
Musk will keep on scoring, but not with the timing or goal of his choosing 😂
That makes more sense
@@chrisdsouza8685 anyone who believes Reuters needs there head examined. Elon is off on timing but has never lied about a product
I think they need to make a drivable version of the 25k car
Do $25k car owners have a home garage for charging? What kind of insurance cost if it's the $25k is still expensive to repair and quick to total?
I have the FSD promo on my Model 3. In the 6 days since getting it, 3 of those days I had continual warning messages that FSD would be compromised due to adverse weather conditions. So what happens to all of these 'cars' with no steering wheels when FSD doesn't work due to weather?
If they try forcing auto driving cars on me then I’m not paying insurance anymore since I won’t be driving
Tesla's modus operandi is to remove parts that do work (sensors, radar, wipers, auto doors in X) and replace them with parts that "might" work. I sure hope a car with no steering wheel works better than my automatic windshield wipers. And promises about fixes are not fixes.
Elon does not want radar or lidar. They are both dirt cheap now and I fail to see how radar and lidar removal helps. ( more sensors to detect objects is better than less, it is just a simple fact) I think it is because he would then show that there software is nowhere near ready. Tesla is ranked close to # 10 if the FSD department. Some vehicles that are not even marketed as FSD have more reliable lane change and other auto features. Elon is the world's greatest con artist.
They've got balls, I'll give them that. But v12 does not inspire a lot of confidence that they can pull this off. I have to intervene to keep it form doing something stupid or dangerous every 30 seconds here in LA.
FSD v12? Idk but from the videos I've seen, and from my own experience, I'm having to intervinve a lot less than with v11.
They're still a long way away from full autonomy, but I think they're on the right track. Each version gets better than the last
@@ayejay0 Yes v12. I find each version does some things better and other things worse. This cycle gives me doubts that it can ever go fully driver less. Would love it if it could though.
Spoke to a few people that have tried v12.3.1 and it does seem to vary quite a bit from these anecdotal stories based on where you live. For some reason, in some geographical areas people say they don't intervene for an entire 15-20 minute drive while in other areas (LA seems to currently be particularly bad) a number of people I've spoken to have mentioned intervenning once every minute or 2. And all of these were in clear day driving conditions, so weather or visibility shouldn't be an issue. I wonder if the slight variance in street sinage or the complexity of the layout of the streets is what causes these discrepencies at the moment. Maybe areas that have street sinage more similar to a larger portion of the currently-available Tesla training data are the ones where v12.3.1 thrives but go to a region where Tesla has less data from, and the car might to more unexpected things more often. Would help to explain the discrepancy in v12.3.1 intervention frequency I've heard about. Another potential reason might be how clean one keeps one's cameras or the glass right in front of them for obvious reasons...
Yikes, every 30 seconds? That shouldn't even be allowed on public roads, let alone rolled out to millions of users.
@@michaelnoble2432 Keep in mind I said "stupid or dangerous" implying that not all interventions are caused by something dangerous. It does a lot of stupid things though that would get me honked at if I let it continue.
I was told at Tesla that FSD still requires you to be touching the steering wheel and watching the road because of requirements from the Dept. of Transportation. I have to think we’re still a good bit away from them allowing cars with no method of control. I’m hoping for the $25k or less driveable car.
There is no regulatory consistency across the world around self driving cars. If Tesla wants a robotaxi then it won't have global appeal, but if they sell the car that can be driven by humans, then yes.
Thanks Ryan. Personally if its true, that is disappointing to me. We need affordable EV's for the masses, and a 25K car would do just that.
The current 3s are affordable to the masses and were more affordable last year with the tax credit. I don't think we need EVs for the masses so much as a change in mindset of the masses.
Agree!!!
@@cameronno6039 Biggest deterrent for adoption is purchase price for most
There are. They just aren't Tesla's. You can buy a different brand. Tesla isn't the be all and end all.
$25000 USD for new Tesla is $35000/$40000 Cdn. FSD is $16000. Sorry Tesla but those numbers are just not working in 🇨🇦
That's your best bet for Tesla right now.
you just highlighted the relative strengths of 2 different currencies and economies. There was a time when the Canadian dollar bought you $1.09 US. Canada was a different country then. Sadly that is no longer true. Our country is standing paralyzed watching doctors and nurses heading south for better pay
No one says you have to buy FSD
$25k would have to be a barebone EV. No HW4/cameras, reduced range battery pack, rear wheel drive. Basically needs to cut $14k off Model 3.
I'm sure they're devastated that you can't afford their car
If Robotaxi becomes an actual thing, and the Police start using them, does it then become Robocop for real???
No, it will become a "robotaxi cop" which is a cop inside your taxi watching your every move!!!
We'll have robo- pursuits.
imagine if their target are driving manually at about 130 km/h trying to escape and their robotaxi just chilling at around the speed of 80 km/h and have no steering wheel and pedal to speed up to their target
😂😂
Your previous background looked much much better.
Yeah this is a bad one
I prefer the old one too, i liked the snare drum in the background with the neutral color palate
Made me think I clicked on the wrong Ryan channel lol. I watch his tech podcast as well and it also has this background. Proud of you Ryan. You continue to evolve ❤️
you all will get used to it, calm down
He’s using the new Channels background
Great roundup, thanks for all you do!
I’ll believe it when I see it
Great new background Ryan; well in tune with the basis of your show. Also, a fine job distilling the Reuters flap. Thanks
Has anyone noticed that FSD renders a person walking with a stroller as a person walking next to a motorcycle? It was hilarious to watch this. 😊
Personally I don't think it's "hilarious" that a safety-critical system that could KILL PEOPLE (and has already done so) is so fundamentally clueless.
Make the Robocar drive-by-wire, so that it can be built with or without the steering wheel hardware, but including the computer-controlled steering motors. Two, two, two cars in one!
Ryan, I’m a fan. I like your old presentation set up. It feels more comfortable and most importantly, believable. Thanks for the great videos.
Ryan Shaw, Subscribed because your videos are so much fun!
So, no real announcement made yet. I'll wait for 8/8 (/24 I hope).
I've been using FSD 12 on every drive for the last 2 weeks. It is better than ever before but i still have to disengage it at least twice per drive, even going just a few miles.
Thanks for being honest. From all the videos I've seen it seems that a full "robotaxi" is MANY years away. FSD would need to get to the point that it needs a human's help maybe ONCE A YEAR, not once a mile.
@@michaelnoble2432 it can go many miles on the highway. And even in the city it has done some impressive things. But I agree, it just gets confused too often to be ready for a robo taxi right now.
V 12.3 is totally awesome to get from here to ALMOST there. It's pulling into the parking lot that is not there yet. There are thousands and thousands of different types of parking lot entrances and... with wrong addresses.
It is pretty great. But it's 90% at best. And 0% in bad weather or dark city (where high beams are actually illegal)
The sound and video is excellent way way improved thank you
While I guess the idea of a self-driving taxi is cool--sort of--I still think the majority of us would just like a smaller, more affordable Tesla to drive. I have a Model 3 and overall love the car, but I could really only afford it with the $7500 EV rebate and inventory reductions at the end of last year. I would really like a cheaper (and smaller, preferably with a hatchback) option. And while I have used the new 12.3 FSD for my free month, it's not that amazing; I've had a couple truly odd and one time scary experience with it where I had to take over or risk an accident. It's not ready for primetime. Also.. I LIKE to drive.
I think for the near future the robotaxi vehicles should have fold away steering wheel and pedals for service people or when you need to override robotaxi for rare issues
So this is an announcement of a future announcement.
Long story short, never bet against Elon!
Biggest problem for taxies is the last 500 feet. I just took delivery of my 2024 Tesla Y on 04/05/2024 with FSD Supervised and it works great on the road. However, it was not able to find its way out of the Olive Garden parking lot.
Be nice to see Tesla produce a Sprinter Van.
3 electric motors, off road Class B - RV with solar would be amazing
Franz said he got Elon to go forward with making a drivable version of that car, so I’m guessing it will be an adaptable platform. Steer by wire will allow them to easily remove the wheel and pedals on it.
Hvor er ludvik?
Maybe just make it as a 'robotaxi', but offer an option kit that is a steering wheel and pedals, that can be clipped into place by anyone. The car is of course 'drive by wire' so no mechanical hook-ups needed. Heck this would solve the Left vs Right hand drive issue, just clip the wheel and pedals on the side relevant to you.
If you're going to take my steering wheel, at least give me a sleep-able cabin and auto-charging. 😏
I totally agree! I can let go of the steering wheel, but I want a lounge pod that can be folded in to a bed when needed.
They are coming out with charging pads to allow for continued charging. This would be how a car could theoretically navigate from LA to NYC autonomously, I suppose.
@@cameronno6039I’m apprehensive of wireless EV charging, both because of the greater energy losses that wireless charging incurs vs wired, as well as the additional heat that is generated in the process.
I think about how warm my phone and smartwatch get from wireless charging and wonder how that would translate when dealing with such huge amounts of energy.
I also imagine the expense of wireless charging pads would be significantly greater than a plug in equivalent. Lots of engineering and cost hurdles to overcome if it’s going to work at any sort of scale.
@@aaronboggs5799 Whether charging or a new for of contact charging is the point. The current charging infrastructure isn't amenable to full autonomous taxi servicing.
I want to drive, and I drive a Tesla sometimes but i still want to drive .
I really hope a non robo-taxi compact is still in the works. Been holding out for a compact Tesla since 2018’s Shareholder event where Elon mentioned a compact possibility.
My life can't wait for FSD. I'm aging by the day! 😮
With steer by, brake by and accelerate by wire, a kit to turn a robo-taxi into a normal car seems quite doable.
Is wireless charging coming to Tesla?
Hi Ryan, don’t forget in this context, that although FSD is working and available in the US, there is a whole other world out there. That world doesn’t just have grid road cities. It has narrow country
lanes, single track roads, cars parked on verges, paths immediately beside roads that people walk on as cars pass. In the UK my MY still freaks out when it sees a bend with a car parked in a parking bay, or a pedestrian using a path (sidewalk) beside a two way road, on a slight curve. So whilst the success of FSD is immense, and is a genuine leap forward, there will still be a massive demand globally for a 20k (ish) vehicle with drive by wire and agnostic/generic platform.
BTW great channel, and love the studio upgrade. 🥂
Before FSD 12.3 I told people that full self driving could not possibly work in my lifetime. After driving everywhere using 12.3 I may have been wrong. 12.3 is amazingly good! But I'm not sure how it will handly many end cases, like getting into my basement garage, looking for parking spaces, letting you off at a theater and parking itself etc etc.
I miss the warmer homie feeling of your old background
I have been using the latest version of FSD better but not there yet. Curious to see what it's like by the time th3 unceil
$25000 car, so it's gonna be $45000.
FYI. They are not doing FSD demos. Picked up my wife’s Y today.
I agree with you I think they're gonna unveil the robotaxi and then If the software Isn't ready Then they will switch to their backup plan and just start producing the Consumer version. Either way I think they have a plan to maximize revenue. And great video.
Would FSD function in the rain, snow, or when the sun is low in the horizon? Robotaxis will need to get a driver's license and it will be a very tall order!
Given that Musk won't let them use LIDAR and only very reluctantly allowed radar, that's no big surprise.
I'm confused - the Robotaxi is going to be a product as a service from Tesla correct? As in, they produce the car, run the service, but its not something you can actually "purchase". Is that correct?
The new car is a single car production model, BUT with Optional extra of Steering Wheel / Pedals. All electronic plugin (drive by wire) and bolt in.
It’s odd that no one mentions the changes to the tax credit as a factor for low sales in Q1. They just put out the refreshed Model 3 and there is no tax credit for it. It’s literally the only thing keeping me from ordering one today. Maybe instead of developing a robo taxi that no one wants, fix your domestic production so your newest model qualifies for a $7500 tax credit and watch your sales go crazy.
I now feel like I’m an expert in the history of Tesla
So smart. To think and dream. Wait 5 years to get ready perhaps
Robotaxi coming soon? I’m still waiting on FSD 12 for my 2017 Model X.
Having steer by wire proven in the Cybertruck does make it easier to have both a fully-autonomous and manually drivable version of the same chassis 🤔
I imagine the $25,000 car and the robotaxi will be virtually identical except for one will have a steering wheel and pedals, and the other will not.
What is your normal mic that you use? It sounds way better than that Shure podcast mic. Just saying.
I’m 62 and don’t believe I’ll ever see FSD cars on roads in my lifetime, never mind Mr Musk’s wild imagination and 10 years of broken timelines, how many country’s will legalise FSD? what about insurance and liability for an accident how will this be settled? We might get their some day but a long time after FSD has been perfected.
That's why I want an under 25k EV that I can drive myself! I'm now 65 and will be 66 this year!
With the free month of FSD being given out almost every Tesla you see on the road for the month of April is driving itself.

All good and well having a robotaxi but how will these cars charge. Do they still need human input? Or will there be wireless charging?

the model 2 and the model 2 robotaxi is the same platform and they can pivot either way or I would assume both cars coming late 2025.
And I was so anticipating a Tesla drill.
I cannot see FSD anywhere near where it needs to be for a robotaxi in this short space of time given where it is currently.
Ryan, Can I still achieve the 402 mile range in a Plaid under normal driving conditions. I want Plaid speed when I need it but standard Model S range for the everyday.
No
You are spot on, Ryan. My best guest is robotaxi is several year’s away. 8/8 will just be another announcement with nothing to show for it for many years, much like the Cybertruck. I’m up 400% on my shares and it might be time to sell out and put the money to better use elsewhere. In other words, an investment in Tesla in the short-term is basically dead money for someone who will need their money within the next 3-5 years. If you don’t need the money, by all means hold on and forget about it
I wish they would have extended the free month of FSD to second hand owners. Its all software, easy enough to initiate.
true FSD is years away. my 23MY still needs me to take over quite often in rural areas in my state. maybe on very clear roads in big cities it can manage better but i think it’s a ways away still from there being a safe autonomous vehicle
I think they will anounce the robotaxi, but the model with a steering wheel will be built first.
Hopefully, but I've heard the opposite speculation.
I think they will announce the master plan for robotaxi... the actual rollout would be TBD, which could be never or 10 years from now.
The greatest thing would be to have a car that hits $25,000 before incentives and it can also be used as a robotaxi when the government allows them to be regulated. That would be a great win for Tesla as some of us still want to drive our cars from time to time.
It is HILARIOUS watching all you Tesla simps do damage control on the Reuters story. BETTER KEEP THAT STOCK PROPPED UP!!!
They need both. People want their own car. Can't robo taxi onto a military base or other complex. Can't "run to the store" in the suburbs or country. Can't haul around gear, backpacks, work stuff, gym bag in a robo taxi. In the city yes. Outside the city, no freaking way!
When the car has steer by wire the steering wheel is just a joystick so it can be optional, same with all the other controls.
FSD is advanced cruise control
How does the car get charged when you summon it from the other side of america
People are not yet convinced on EVs and elon wants them to drive car without steering wheel? Its so stupid and out of mind.. look, when I checked last video from Farzad about FSD it was “super improved” over last version and yet still made so many stupid things, that maybe version 15 will be usable..
Showcase a robotaxi production on the same platform the big seller steering wheel or yoke.
This is not an either or situation. It is a both and with priorities changing as developments advance.
im not the least bit interested in fsd or enhanced autopilot. im perfectly capable of driving my own damn car and actually like driving. ill take that 6k (enhanced autopilot) or 12k (fsd) savings and put it to more practical things like a ppf wrap to protect the paint 👍👍
I disabled my free FSD trial after a few days. It kept changing lanes at bad times unnecessarily.
It WORKS!!!!!
How does robo taxi work at tire shops or body shops for example.
I guess it's gonna be an other Cybertruck situation. Presentation in august, almost nothing for a few years, then more and more stuff and sight until release, and then release with more realistic characteristics and a few special features in bonus
Keep in mind that the new Tesla Roadster and the Semi were 'unveiled' in November, 2017. So... fasten your seatbelts. The Robotaxi is coming now.
My guess: this is more of a marketing thing to force people to pay for FSD package. You're buying a "robotaxi," which will be more expensive cause it comes with FSD (mandatory). But until it's street legal, we have to ship it to you with a "temporary" steering controls configuration. Either way, they get you paying for FSD.
tesla is like Willie Wonka's magic chocolate factory, nobody really has any idea what is going on!
My thoughts: nothing new in here, go on about your day
He can't even get the regulators to approve FSD across the world.
While I see the utility of having FSD and if someone wants and/or needs it due to physical limitations, then that's great. However, I want to be able to drive. I like the "act" of driving. Driving is fun. I don't want the option to actually drive be taken away.
I have used 12.3 for a week now and I don't enjoy traveling with FSD. I would much rather just drive, way more relaxing and fun to actually drive.
I only engage AP for long highway cruising. Local I enjoy driving myself.
If Tesla doesn't come out with a (non-Chinese) 25k ev, someone else will, andvsoon. Hyundai would be my bet.
I think that Tesla have got the Unboxed process to a point where they could possibly bring out a $25000 model 3 which would then free them up to bring out a robotaxi that they do not sell to the public
Elon is a Pinball Wizard.
So, what's the consensus? Is the $25K car with steering wheel coming or not??
I bet it's not coming.
@@Trust_but_Verify That's what they said about the Cybertruck.
