One of the best things the Cavs did when LeBron James left in 2018 was not trade the team's first-round draft pick, which LBJ wanted the team to trade. It ended up being Colin Sexton, who CLE traded for Donovan Mitchell. Short window for a re-build between LBJ leaving and today.

They traded Kyrie for an injured Isaiah Thomas in 17!!! If they had went after Lillard or practically any top tier guard such as Beal they would have rings to show for it. Instead they have an "exciting" team. One with a glaring hole at SF which is pretty hard to fill in this current league.

Poeltl is severely underrated because he isn’t flashy. He’s a walking double double, excellent passer, elite pick and roll man, top notch offensive rebounder, quality rim protecter. Top 10 center in the league. The only thing he doesn’t do at all is is shoot three’s. And the only thing he does mediocre is shoot free throws (60%).
He’s worth a number #1 and a starting player, all by himself.
And yet the Lakers already said no. Also you know the Spurs don't want to help Lakers in anything.

I'm hoping and praying to God that the Lakers aren't stupid enough to trade anybody this season. It doesn't make sense; we can all agree the Westbrook move was a total failure and it should've never happened. But that doesn't mean trade him now that he's playing "better" off bench because he has to. What the Lakers need to do is just accept this season for what it is, if they make it to the playoffs, they're just going to lose in the first round anyway. They need to wait until the offseason for Kyrie Irving assuming the Nets don't extend his contract because he's been too problematic or something.

Now that Kyrie is playing well for a hot minute, it's likely Bron is pushing to get him to LA. It's Kyrie's last year on his current contract with the Nets. Bron doesnt want some pieces. He wants to have a Big3 like he had in Miami. He knows he needs that to be a contender against all the competition.

Because the Lakers aren't a small market team. They haven't, nor will they ever need to be, built through the draft...also, it's important to remember that the Lakers have a 1st round pick in all but 1 year through 2030 and beyond (2024 or 2025)

the lakers need 3 pt shooting to create space for Lebron and AD more than they need a center. they get two good 3 pt shooters at trade deadline and the lakers are contenders with lebron and AD if they are healthy. The picks mean nothing, the lakers can alway go out and buy players on the free agent market. the bonus of getting fred vanvleet and gary trent jr is that they are two way players who play defence. where as with other teams you just getting an offensive player that is a negative on defence cuz they play none. so getting two way players its like getting a 2 for 1 deal.

@amhoops the problem with the raptors is the time is coming when they have to pay the piper. some big contracts coming in siakam supermax, rookiemax barnes, and og anunoby max extension that can cost 105 million a year for 3 players on a small market team.
you cant pay gary or fred 30 million a year cuz then you filling out the rest of the 11 players on the team with gleague players making 1 million each. thats why gary and fred are gone likely unless siakam is traded, which is a possibility.
what is scary is warriors could trade for siakam, by using draymon contract with young players and first round picks, and be a scarier team.
or the warriors could trade for gary trent jr and otto porter jr with their young assets and filler and maybe a pick and fix their bench problems. even boucher on the warriors probably put up better offensive numbers in a ball moving system like warriors while putting up his defence and getting rebounds and steals and blocks. and boucher can hit the 3 as well.

I honestly think if anyone is moving from the Lakers besides Russ, it should be AD. I know AD is an unreal talent, but he can't stay on the court enough. It happened to work out in the Bubble, but since then he hasn't been healthy for a full season. If the Lakers and Suns were actually going to work out a deal, it should be for the Lakers to get Ayton and the Suns to get AD.
I know the logistics of this deal might be tough. Thing is, the Lakers might be able to actually save the picks the front office is so dedicated to. The suns get an amazing talent and someone who CP3 has played with before. A line up of CP3, AD, and Booker is really impressive. If AD stays healthy of course, but I feel like the Suns would be willing to roll the dice on this because of Ayton. They could toss in a young guy like Christie or Gabriel, and the Suns could add in Lee or perhaps Crowder? He wants out of PHX anyways, if he gets along with Ayton that would be a tough Vet which the Lakers could use.
Look, no matter what anyone says. Ayton and Monty don't get along, everyone else on the team seems to like Monty which is creating this tension and putting a dark cloud over the team, it might even be worse. This allows the entire organization to move on from Ayton. He gets to go to LA, which I think he would love being a gamer and younger guy. He gets to play on the Lakers where everyone will be talking about him if he puts up the number he has been.
Does anyone think he couldn't easily continue to put up 20 and 10 alongside Bron and Russ? Are you kidding me? They would spoon feed the guy on offense. He is pretty solid on D and can use his speed and length to contest shots in the paint. PHX has to eventually move Ayton or the team will never get over the hump. Sometimes its for the best, the Nets had to move on from Harden and look at them now. Sure, Ben can't shoot if his life depends on it, but he brought something new to the team. He was still talented and the chemistry worked.
Why couldn't the lakers do the same with Ayton? He is young and has a solid track record health wise. I know it sounds crazy, but I think it could work. Sure, if AD stays healthy the suns could win it all and that would come back to bite the Lakers.

If they go there’s no reason at all you’d trade Russ. He’s negative trade asset you have to give stuff up to move him, not get good assets back. Plus he’s an expiring $44M leaving you with a ton more cap space next season, which is a valuable tool in a rebuild for teams that don’t have idiots managing them. You take on other bad contracts from teams and those teams attach good draft capital for you to do so
There's a lot of good young talent, I doubt lebron can add 2 roll players and grind his way to the chip like he used to, lakers would ruin their future for a 2nd round exit then lebron would leave anyway because lebron cares about lebron.. I'd just trade him and start over now.

@amhoops why thad young? and josh jackson is not even on the team he was cut in training camp. if i were the lakers i would try to trade for fred vanvleet, gary trent jr and chris boucher. chris boucher is a great rebounder and plays defence and can even fill in at center at times cuz he tall enough. you wouldnt get a center but chris boucher gives ya a wing and can at times fill in at center.

On top of that, Russ has this year left on his contract, you don't trade him, you lose that 50 mil, you don't get to resign that money.
ON TOP OF THAT, anyone not named AD or LeBron is not signed for next season, and most everyone on the team would want a bag for how well they played this season.
Unless you are just planning to not do anything, which is odd if you want a chip.
And I disagree, LeBron was *trying* to become the second option to AD, letting him take the reigns. Brooo those trades make no sense at all! Russ is the 6MOTY leading candidate while Christie is a solid role player in his rookie year. It would be 4 assets to 3 and the Lakers wouldn’t benefit at all. A roster with Poeltl, Richardson and McDermott, as far as I’m concerned, wouldn’t stand longer than this roster. Same with the Raptors deal, Gary Trent and VanVleet are on the last year of their deal, no way this happens. People go mad for the three point shooting and spacing, but there are lots of ways to play b-ball, and the Lakers are bringing the Middies back so shout out to Darvin Ham!
