Splatterhouse Part 2. Japan Version. Hardest Difficulty (Very Difficult). Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. Played using Fusion emulator. No continues, tools, autofire, cheats or save states were used.
Continuación directa del mítico Splatterhouse, famoso juego de Namco por su temática de terror y gore, que apareció en Arcade, Pc Engine, Fm Towns y posteriormente en Pc.
En esta segunda parte, que se desarrolla tres meses después, la máscara convence a Rick de que Jennifer todavía está viva y que le puede ayudar a encontrarla. De esta forma, volvemos a los restos de la casa de la primera parte.
El juego apareció en exclusiva para Megadrive/Genesis, al igual que su tercera parte. La mecánica del juego es clavada a su predecesor, y es el único que mantiene el mismo estilo que la primera parte.
He jugado a la versión japonesa ya que la mayoría de partidas son de las versiones occidentales. Hay algunas pequeñas diferencias: aquí hay más información en la intro que cuenta con más detalles la historia; los textos también cambian un poco; la máscara es diferente: aquí se parece a una máscara de kabuki (personalmente prefiero la máscara-calavera occidental); no hay passwords en la versión japonesa y solo 5 continues; y los niveles de dificultad no son exactamente iguales (en la versión occidental, el nivel más alto de dificultad se llama Game Master y nos dan dos corazones en vez de uno). Por lo demás, el juego es exactamente igual.
El juego no es especialmente difícil, ya que los enemigos son contados, pero por alguna razón se me resistía el poder acabarlo sin que me tocasen. De hecho, grabé hace semanas un GMV con el Gens completándolo, pero al reproducirlo, misteriosamente me mataban en el quinto nivel (¡lo mismo hay alguna maldición!). Así que me tocó grabarlo directamente en AVI con el Fusion. Espero que lo disfrutéis.
Sequel of the famous Splatterhouse, a game developed by Namco that became very famous due to its terror and gory atmosphere. The game was released for Arcade, PC Engine, FM Towns and Pc.
In this second part, which takes place three months later, the mask convinces Rick that Jennifer is still alive, and that it can help you to find her. So you go back to the remains of the house from the first game.
The game appeared exclusively for the Megadrive / Genesis, as did the third game. The game mechanics are like its predecessor, and it's the only game keeping the same style as the first part.
I played the Japanese version since most of CZcams gameplays are from the Western versions. There are some minor differences: there is more information in the introduction, the text also changes a bit, the mask is different and the one here looks like a kabuki mask (personally I prefer the Western skull-mask), no passwords in the Japanese version and only 5 continues, and the difficulty levels are not exactly equal (in the Western version, the highest level of difficulty is called "Game Master" and we have two hearts instead of one). Otherwise, the game is exactly the same.
Well, the game is not particularly difficult, since there are not too many enemies or dangers. I hope you enjoy it.

Now it makes sense why Rick sounds so muffled. I like that mask more than the skull. This one looks skin tight and it seems to perfectly cover hes mouth and nose. That makes me uncomfortable.
Good game 10/10 Would punch a chainsaw again.
Rick doesn't talk in this or the first game. The mask does all the talking (as shown the 3D game on 360).

Well up had to have some use and beside the wizz joke was probably there intention.
Actually, that animation is used when picking up objects that are on background walls (like the shotgun on the wall in the Haunted Mansion level).

Wow, that's really impressive, dude! I remember playing this game myself and I couldn't pass through level 2 XD That's definitely one of the hardest sega games.
Isabella Quinns A girl commenting on my channel, that's even more impressive xD. Trust me, this game is a piece of cake compared to games like Chakan, Hellfire, or the Young Indiana Jones. They are a torture, haha.

Muy interesante lo de la versión japonesa, yo como el que tengo es el europeo pues no tenía ni idea de que hubiese algunas diferencias entre ambas versiones. Sobre la partida he visto la mitad, pero luego quiero terminar de verla porque la verdad es que Splatterhouse es una de mis sagas favoritas de videojuegos, la primera vez que vi el Splatterhouse de la Turbografx casi se me cayeron los ojos al suelo del impacto jaja.

The zombie scientist you fight in Stage 5 is Dr. West, because in the Japanese version, the diary that Rick reads to learn about the Void is said to belong to a "West" according to the Japanese manual, not to mention, the laboratory is also said to be where West conducted his experiments, so it's speculated by the Japanese fandom that the zombie boss is definately Dr. West.
But unfortunately, this detail is lost in the English version, in which West is replaced by another unseen figure named Dr. Mueller.

Thanks! Well, it's not as difficult as it seems. This is not a beat'em up in which you are exposed to hits all the time. Here the pace is slower and you can do everything just by memory. For example, a no damage run of Splatterhouse 3 would be insane.

Like I said, I can't do it. I have tried but I can't even finish the first game without dying at least once, let alone without getting harmed. My reaction time is just not fast enough I guess.
I don't know if you are playing it in the original system or an emulator. I used save states in the difficult parts to memorize them faster and then, when I practiced all the hotspots, I played the whole game in one sitting. I know it's not the "legit" way of learning a game, but I don't have so much time as before. You could try the same, maybe you will be able to achieve it this way.

Amazing skills. This game is a classic, the soundtrack is just ass-kicking awesome, it keeps me coming back for this game, my favorite track probably the boss track at 11:00.

Great job with this! I feel like the first level of the hidden house had missing potential though. Imagine if instead of a generic hallway, there were enemies that could only be seen when the lightning flashes?
Hearth Stoned Thanks mate! I think that this saga has a lot of potential and they could have done a lot more with it: more weapons, different enemies or situations...etc. Anyway, this is my favourite of the three classic games. I didn't like the beat'em up style of the third one.

You got the story wrong in your description though.
In the first Splatterhouse you KILL Jennifer. She is dead at the beginning of Splatterhouse 2. You do go back to the burned remains of West Mansion but you got to find the hidden mansion where all the experiments were taking place (where you kill Dr. West in the game or at least a zombie of him) and then you break the forbidden seal and take Jennifer's soul from the afterlife which brings her back to life. This has a direct cause in releasing the evil one which is where the 3rd game kicks in.
I thought I wrote something similar to that in the description, well, just a few lines saying that the mask convinces you to return to the mansion because Jennifer can be brought back to life. Your summary is a lot better than mine, that's for sure!

Cool man. I recon you could have done some slide kicks on the river stage. Also some jump punches (since your a pro you should know how) and some attacks on the mad scientist whether they be hand to hand combat or by throwing a beaker of fish blood. Milky Eikos music is way cool.
I would play this constantly as a kid, ended up being really good at it, but never this good.

Desde luego, es un temazo impresionante, una pena que solo suene en un momento determinado y tan poco. Sí, los emuladores no consiguen emular perfectamente el sonido de la Megadrive. Este no es un caso grave, pero hay otros en los que los instrumentos suenan completamente distintos. Ah, mis primeras partidas estaban sin comentar y casi todos mis suscriptores eran extranjeros. Lo de decir idioteces vino después, jaja. Por respeto a esos primeros 100-200 suscriptores subo todas las partidas dos veces, una comentada y otra sin comentar para que la puedan disfrutar ellos también.

Respecto a lo que pones en la descripción de que el resultado de una grabación, es distinto a lo que hacías, eso se llama Desync (desincronización) la grabación pierde un frame, por lo que a partir de ahi todo lo que ocurre no tiene sentido. Es común en el mundo de la emulación jeje.

Carl Johnson Es que Rick es muy sensible, y si lo tocan una vez muere xD. Uso el Gens, que me viene mejor para grabar este tipo de partidas. A mí me funciona perfecto.

Carl Johnson Jajaja, no hombre, aquí solo hay un corazón porque lo he puesto en hardest. En dificultad Normal o Easy tienes bastantes más. No son tan cabrones los programadores. A mí el 3 no me gusta tanto. Como bien dices, parece un juego de lucha libre con monstruitos, solo falta ahí Hulk Hogan para turnarse con Rick xD.

You made a very good (and funny too) review. Regarding the gameplay, I needed to practice a lot, but it's more about memorization than proper skills. I learnt by heart everything in the game, so it was just repeating until I could do it without taking damage. This is my favourite game from the entire series.

I like the second one for its graphics, but the third has more gameplay. Though it can get a little confusing at times.

How long did it take you to be able to perfect the game like this?
+Zeus Poseidon I cannot remember, but maybe a few weeks. Take into account that you are not exposed to dangers constantly and the pace of the game is quite slow, so there aren't many things or patterns to remember. I also use save states to practice difficult parts, so I can learn everything faster.
The difference is that Japanese had a title that makes sense but in U.S doesn't make sense.
I like the U.S splatterhouse mask looks more cool then the hockey mask.

No, the mask won't kill Rick because it's useless without a wearer.
The mask is sentient and only can be removed when it wants to. It was using Rick the whole time to further it's goals. It gets destroyed in Part 3 with the good ending.

how do you slide kick?
It's a little bit tricky to do it but you must be walking (either left or right), then jump and just when you are about to touch the ground, you must press down-right if you are facing right or the opposite if you are facing left and the attack button. It takes a bit of practice but it's the most powerful attack of the game.

It seems harder than it really is. Once you memorise the tricky parts of every level and the bosses patterns, it gets a lot easier. It's more about having a good memory than skills.

Realmente, es muy llamativa por el hecho de que sea sin daño, pero no es tan difícil como parece. Esto se debe a que hay mucha "caminata", y con esto me refiero a que en gran parte de la partida, podemos jugar sin tener que prestar atención tan siquiera. Es decir, basta con saber las mecánicas básicas del juego para avanzar: si aparece un enemigo se le golpea, si hay un hoyo en el suelo se salta...etc. Al final te aprendes las rutinas de los jefes finales y algunas zonas concretas más chungas y ya está. Es cierto que no se puede fallar ni una sola vez, pero hablamos de 10-12 puntos negros solamente. Yo suelo medir la dificultad de los juegos por el número de puntos negros existentes y en segundo lugar su duración, más que nada, por el hecho de tener que repetir desde el principio en caso de fallo.

Haha, the stereotypes. I reckon that if this channel weren't mine, I would think the same. I have a normal social life and I'm just skilled with this kind of games. It's not as hard as it seems because there is a lot of walking and not many enemies. There's one guy here in CZcams that beats Final Fight without being hit. That's sick, not this gameplay, haha.

Yes... I guess. I don't know too well the plot behind these games, but I think that the power of the mask is related in some way to the house.

As far as I know, the difficulty in the game is the same, but there are some changes, for example: there are no passwords in the Japanese version, fewer continues and the highest difficulty setting only gives you one heart, instead of the two given in the Western versions. Otherwise, the number of enemies or the damage they deal, is the same.
