Fortunately for you, Jon is eager to share his knowledge of how he became involved with tech journalism. So whether you want to be a writer for a top technology site like TechnoBuffalo or want to produce tech videos on CZcams, stick around and listen to Jon’s advice and suggestions. All this and more in this episode of Rettinger’s Riffs! MORE: bit.ly/1sVqUpE
This was such a great video Jon! I agree that the education part is really what gets you organized and oriented to not only have the drive and disciple to consistently make content but to keep your mind active in a way that can also organize and execute content.
This industry is incredibly brutal but also incredibly rewarding. We are all a community in technology and what I love about this industry is how warm and welcoming the other members are.
I am in school right now for Journalism and Jon Rettinger helped me choose my career. I love Technobuffalo and can honestly say it has changed my life.
I'm in my 30's now and doing vloggin'. I'm not perfect but I have learned a lot through the years. One is to just be a good person. Other good people will follow.
Hi Mr. Rettinger,
First of all thank you for posting this video, not just for the advise but for rather confirming certains thoughts and opnions that I had about the industry. As you probably must have guessed by now I am probably also one of the many people who has such a question in mind.
I spend a lot of time online specially on Tech website and Gaming websites(m a hardcore console gamer) as such and also watch quite a few videos. I particularly like your channel. Major reasons being your advised and reviews are sensible, you are loud, clear and very mannered and passionate which make you stand out as a presentor.
Once again thank you for your videos and hope to see you continue the amazing work !!!
This helped me a lot! I am going into my senior year of high school, and I plan to go into Film and Documentary as my degree. I have done loads of essays in school, and I even write the tech section in my school newspaper! It is my dream to work for you guys! You guys look like you love what you all do! I also have done debate courses for school, and I've been practicing talking to a camera on my channel. I have a bad habit of digressing. Thank God for video editing :). Thank you for this video! I hope to be moving down to the LA area from my dinky town to come work with you within the next 5 years!
Jon, I liked the B-roll of you by your desk. Felt as though it added production value as you spoke about what you did then cut away to us watching you do it. Consider doing more of that.
There needs to be more videos like this, I'm 26 and have massive interest in tech and want to start a blog and hopefully a CZcams channel eventually when im settled on my feet. Love your work and if you have any tips for me that would be great. Big love from the UK 👊
This video has really helped me! I'm in high school right now and am thinking of doing this as one of my careers. I love debating; some call me a nerd for doing this kid of thing but I always say SCREW THEM!
***** and TechnoBuffalo, I really hope to work with you guys someday! This would make a great experience for me! Once again, thanks for the video and I can't wait to start forming my foundation in this career field. I'm also considering of either doing this part time or just full time. I also want to be a software engineer so I hope that I can fit this in with my career.
The information in this video is very helpful and greatly appreciated!
Thank you

I don't know if you have talked about this but: Is this Technobuffalo a company that you and your friends have made or something like that or is this just a CZcams channel and thing?
This is great as this is what I want to do in the future if all goes to plan
I wish to start a career in Tech Journalism, but that would be probably after I'm done High School.
In other words, just have fun!
john you are the best!!
I've always wanted to like be a phone tester. I really get a thrill from opening up a new packed phone and or tablet. I've been wanting to start a business with fixing phones and tablets. I'm a high schooler that's almost finished and I was wanting to know about any info and as much if you guys can help me. I would greatly appreciate it.
Great video, thanks John!
Hey Jon, I watched the whole series of "advice for aspiring tech reviewers" and it convinced me to learn some high level software and make my own videos. I really appreciate what you are doing with helping others get off their feet and follow their dreams. I don't want to be a spammer or anything (haha, get it?), but I would love if you would check out my first video and tell me what you think something I might be able to improve on.
Thanks again and I'll see you in your next video.
Only watching Jon's enthusiastic unscripted videos from now on, on TechnoBuffalo.
I study political science but i would love tech journalism

Ive never been good at Journalism but I need a job. - from Hawaii
Hi Jon, just love your method of writing and making videos. This inspired me to start writing on my own so I started a blog (techatips.blogspot.com) initially (which if successful will convert into a website) but couldn't get much hits. So anything that you can suggest to increase the viewer-ship of my blog would be quite helpful. And keep making these videos because we just love them.
Cool
thanks jon
Sooo basically majoring in English and Drama will get ya in
Want to make tech channel just don't know how to?
what happen to insidejonsmind just saying
It seems like 90% of Rettinger's Riffs is about starting a career in tech journalism. Couldn't you just post an article to the website? Post all your findings there and be done with it. This is not why subscribed to your videos. Just my two cents. Do whatever you want ;)
Wow I liked it first
bill gates dropped out of college and became a billionaire. then again he did drop out of an ivy league school
And to this day, dropping out of college is Bill Gates's most regretful decision ever.
***** College isn't for everyone. Some people have no drive to do what other say to do, they have to learn and start everything on their own accord. -Matt
***** But how often does that work?
I feel it's stupid how people feel dropping out of college is a good idea in all cases. If one has a good idea and knows that it'll sell well, then it's a different story. However, people nowadays feel that dropping out of college will instantly make them millionaires. The sad part is that people underestimate the struggle. The mental pressure and the physical strain is what needs to be overcome. Once someone knows how to overcome their fears, and can strengthen their strengths then it's a different situation. Dropping out of an ivy league school and dropping out of a regular school is almost the same. You will be a nobody if you don't work hard. A guy who drops out of the worst school might still have better business ideas than a person who has graduated from an ivy league school. What I'm saying is that if a person has the idea, the motivation, the determination, the knowledge, and the exposure, he could achieve anything.
Jon can you please shave it for later? lol
I love poop
me too man :)
