Actually, it's a form of showing dominance and has nothing to do with having sex. Cattle do it, too, and not just the bulls. Cows (females) mount each other to show their place in the ranking. I grew up on a ranch. Surprisingly, ducks do the same thing. In our female duck flock, my husband calls the dominance mounting, 'Queen For A Day', as the next day a different duck will try to be flock 'leader' and will mount the other ducks if they approach her.
