  • Top 10 Awesome Things You Didn't Know About Ants
We share our food, and even our homes, with ants, and can't seem to get away from them, no matter where we travel. But, despite their relative constancy in our lives, we don't seem to know much about ants, aside from the fastest way to kill them. As it turns out, there are a great many intriguing facets about ants, many of which paint the little critters as shockingly close to human. As it turns out ...

Just imagine there are millions of microscopic wars going on around us and we have no idea. On your roof a spider is in an epic battle with a cockroach, well on your outside porch an army of ants wage war against a colony of termites. It's pretty cool when you think about it

I for one have a soft spot for ants and I actually like when they live around my home. Here is a fact for you home owners (this way maybe next time you will think twice before getting that ant poison). Ants saved our home from termites. They despise termites and killed all the termites that were ravaging our home. It costs thousands to spray to get rid of the little f*ckers and they usually come back anyway so the ants were a Godsend to us. So if you have a termite problem, don't be so quick to kill off the little soldiers in your back yard.........

Army ants have no eyes. They just march onward in a straight line (hence the "army" part of their name) until they find something to eat. They also operate on sort of a collective intelligence. The more ants there are, the more clever they become...or so I've heard.

The ants seemed to be unphased at all by the microwave, though the dry dog food was quite warm. The li'l boogers apparently are also impervious to electromagnetic radiation in the microwave spectrum.

Also a true story. I saw two ant colonies at war once as a child, and being bored I watched, one side won and then I left thinking about the impending slaughter. That very week I noticed the ants that lost were raiding food and to my surprise they sent it to the colony that won, later that same week they were fighting again, so I'm pretty sure they can also set basic treaties and food tributes.
