Even as a high school football coach, I have a custom handshake with a few of the players that are really close to me, and whenever I perform it with them I can visibly see their mood improve. Plus, like the lady said at the end of the video, they’re just plain fun.

No, players have been doing it for years. You really never noticied?
High five's became a thing in the late 70's in baseball & basketball. The philosophy of "teams who pass more win more" bleeds into "teams who slap hands more win more" because two players are making a deeper personal connection to throwing/catching to them. When they have a handshake rhythm, they have a rhythm of working together on the field. There have been studies counting how many high-fives a team does in a game correspond to how successful they are.
@nedisahonkey It's the fact they are using very recent clips from players who are still playing and did not show any from the past, and to be honest I've never seen players from the past do these elaborate handshakes,maybe the odd high five here and there.
