I always get a kick out of it when players name their elementary school, but as a Naruto fan, I have to give love to Jamal Williams.
I thought Laverneous Coles was the first one to mix it up, by saying his high school instead of Florida State. And I thought that he didn't say Florida State because he and FSU teammate Peter Warrick accepted sneakers in violation of NCAA rules, but FSU punished him more than Warrick because Warrick was a bigger star on the team.
In any case, how is Cris Carter credited with starting the trend when the official name is The Ohio State University?

It gave people a understanding of what type of player you were based off your school, and as fans if it was a school we like/ went to, that player became someone of a fav... I feel like it was a missed opportunity for them to get a little cheeky about Marshawn Lynch's period of abstinence from the media, it would've been hilarious if they brought back the Clutch Cargo for him, like they did the Broncos O-line.

I would agree, this season feels very very different than the past. It centers on what I remember from the 80s ... we knew the players. Remember when Chicago and other teams had music videos. Seeing the players under the helmets makes it feel far more connected and excited to watch. Teams aren't just big name QBs ... Absolutely love this!

It's not just league owners and executives - a lot of fans don't like this, celebration dances, etc. Those fans are dying off, and most younger fans like to see players having fun doing things like this. But for the league, it's also a matter of how many fans are on either side, how much money they have, how much money they spend on the NFL, and what the corporate sponsors and TV execs think about it.

@@loki2240 I’m not sure you’re exactly right there, my friend. Don’t you remember the crazy celebrations guys like T.O. would do back 25+ years ago? Stuff they do today is incredibly tame in comparison, and a lot of rules have been made to discourage celebrations since then.
I might agree with you if you had said that to me 20+ years ago, but I think the vast majority of fans today love this kind of stuff. Most of the fuddy-duddies are already dead lol. No one today complains about stuff like this at all, man.
